View Full Version : Pavlik says styles make fights.

"Styles make fights," Pavlik reasoned. "Taylor has looked bad. He's still a great fighter though. I don't think he's regressed. But we'll just see what happens on the 29th when he fights a big middleweight; a guy bigger than him. And we'll see how he reacts to getting hit by somebody like that as opposed to getting hit by smaller guys."
Taylor is definetely gonna eat some canvas when he feels that club pavlik throws and pavlik knows this. All those little feather punches that taylor has been used too as of late are all going away.

Dude, I'm not even a Taylor fan and I think Taylor is gonna remove Pavliks head from his body.
Sure he's big, sure he has power and good workrate, but he is way to sloppy for a guy like Taylor. He is gonna throw a bunch of sloppy punches and Taylor is gonna take his head off.
Werent u the one saying that miranda was going to knock his head off too? Hmm--how did that go?

I like Pavlik, its good to see a white boy with some skills, but I think this is the pefect fight for Taylor. They have been matching Taylor against crafty fighters, which was wrong because of his experience as a pro. Its been more based on greed from his promoter DiBella. Shows you how good Taylor can be once he gets the right experience, the way he fought in those fights, but hopefully he will be matched correctly to showcase his skills. The Pavlik fight is going to be exciting and make him look really good.

Its gonna make taylor look good lying in the middle of the ring in a fetal position?

The 'styles makes fights' cliche is seriously overblown.
Great fighters can adapt. In his last four fights alone, Taylor has seen all different types of styles and still prevailed. Seriously, Pavlik's about to succumb to a rude awakening.

The Ouma fight was supposed to make Taylor look really good too.
How did that go?

No, because Pavlik v Miranda was the 1st me seeing either of them fight.
I've watched other Pavlik fights since then, and he is way too sloppy to beat Taylor. You people are gonna see very soon....
Taylor is less technically sound than Pavlik; however Taylor is faster, and a better natural athlete.
This isn't as big as factor as you might think though because despite Taylor's athletic ability, he has a tendency to stiffin up and telegraph his punches.

If Taylor fights Pavlik like he fought Winky, Taylor is going to get knocked out.
Getting backed in a corner while keeping your left hand low, against a fighter with a killer straight right is going to put you to sleep.

Dude, Taylor went head up (and definatly held his own) against techincal masters Hopkins and Winky Wright (Cory Spinks aint to shabby either).
You honestly believe he is gonna lose to some guy who throws all off balance, who punches are never tight and who has the footwork of a drunk cow?
Come on!!!!!:patsch
Pavlik's still better than Tarver :yep
Kolya

Pavlik's defense is even more horrendous than Taylor's and has bad footwork to go with it.
Taylor may hold his hands too low, but at least he has good footwork and upper body movement to compensate.
Taylor is gonna duck and counter to Pavlik's big head that is just gonna be a sitting duck for him.
I didn't know we started considering running backwards until you hit the ropes good footwork. For God's sake, Taylor can't even pivot off the ropes. And Pavlik's defense isn't horrendous; it's not great, but not bad either. He fought a very specific game plan against Miranda; he knew he had to open up on him and rough him up. It shows that Pavlik can come in with a strategy and use it and listen to his trainer, unlike JT, who, when all else fails, stops throwing punches and waits for HBO to bail him out.

Ummm, call me crazy, but...if styles make fights, then doesnt a guy with a great jab normally hold an advantage over a good pressure fighter??
I mean, if styles make fights and all...is Pavlik saying that he is gonna lose? Im confused?

Taylor's style is getting backed in the corner with his left hand held down low.

Tarver, "The Magic Man" would OWN his white ass.
No, but he not some sloppy whiteboy with bad footwork.

Pavlik is right, Styles do make fights. This fight will be much different than his fight with Miranda. Taylor has much better skills, chin, and overall background than Miranda. It will be a good fight, but Pavlik has not fought anybody at Taylor's level yet. Miranda is just a step below, so that was a good fight. Let's see how Pavlik does at the elite level.

Pavlik is going to get himself in a world of shit, he is good but he is not experienced and that goes a long way. Taylor is still hungry, and he will not be giving the belt up , Pavlik will have to earn it.

Staright up, I would love Pavlik to go up to 175 and fight Tarver, "The Magic Man" would OWN his white ass.
Were talking about taylor u idiot. Here you go again nuthugging tarvers sack whenever you can. I guess thats why your name is dipper brown huh------u want to dip something into----you figure it out.
Back to pavlik--you act as if hes sloppy--I guess throwing straight punches, through the defense, is sloppy. I guess you want him to throw some wide looping punches and that would make him not sloppy then? Give me a break. Go watch his fights before you try and analyze him.

Throwing a punch through mirandas defense is nothing to brag about. At all. Or none of the complete and utter tomato cans Pavlik has fought over his career. The point is this fight can go either way. If it is a boxing match I chose taylor. If Pavlik lures taylor into a fight Pavlik would probably stop him. Can go either way.

he did that pretty well. TAYLOR WILL NOT hurt Pavlik. AND that pressure will be a bitch. :deal
Taylor will hurt Pavlik, Pavlik is very easy to hit. Miranda landed on him as much as he was gettin beat. Taylor will beat Pavlik. Without a doubt

There are some real clowns on here lately! Taylor hasn't hurt anyone is years! Ya tell me he fought B-Hop 2x, Wright and Spinks BLAH! BLAH! Anyone watch Hopkins, Wright or Spinks fight they couldn't KO a corpse! The punch stats had Miranda landing 22% of his punches, wow how did he hit Pavlik so much? Pavlik will hit JT harder and more often than anyone he has ever fought! If Ouma (a straight ahead volume puncher-except smaller than Pavlik and can't punch) walked Jt down he's in trouble Sept. 29!!!

Dude Pavlik beat Miranda....Yeah the guy who just flails his arms in hopes of knocking people out, its not liek he beat some big facotr in the division, i think Abraham is overrated too...
Jermaine will punish Pavlik....probably with the least amount of effort possible, but hopefully Pavlik brings the fight so Jermaine can still win in impressive fashion instead of just gliding through him..

That's what people are blind to.
It doesn't help that everytime Taylor retracts his jab, his left hand is about as high as his shoulder.
He's been doing that every fight in his career.
And he's going to correct it this time?

I just saw the Pavlik-Miranda fight yesterday and i'm not too impressed with Pavlik. He was aggressive and controlled Miranda but man, Miranda is one sloppy fighter who telegraphs his right hands. Pavlik has not been in the ring with a guy of Taylor's caliber.
I see Taylor outclassing the guy from start to finish.

Taylor telegraphs his right too.
And it seems ever since the Hopkins fights, Taylor has been fighting like a stiff.
I don't know if it's the pressure that got to him or what, but he left something in the ring against Hopkins.
On top of all this, Ouma a pressure fighting, volume puncher, who's short, and lacks power, was supposed to be a showcase fight for Taylor.
Not only did Taylor fail to KO him, but Taylor was pushed back in the corner and forced to fight Ouma's fight.
Taylor's size alone won that fight in my opinion.
That won't be good enough against Pavlik. Pavlik is tall enough to land that straight right hand when Taylor drops his left hand.

Taylor elevates his game against top level competition. It's hard to believe but he got bored against talented fighters in Ouma and Spinks.
Taylor is not that polished but what he does bring to the table is size, youth, good power, activity, and determination. And that alone was good enough to get him two controversial wins against Hopkins and a tough draw with Wright.
Taylor is going to win this fight.

Sorry, but if you get bored with a fighter, especially when it's your showcase fight, you shouldn't get pushed into a corner taking an unnecessary beating by a man you were supposed to KO.
And everything you said that Taylor brings, Pavlik does the same, with the exception that Pavlik is more technically sound.
Taylor is more athletic, but what does that do for you when you stiffen up in the ring and telegraph your punches or drop your hands when they should be up protecting your face.
Taylor also fought Winky the wrong way and if it wasn't for Winky throwing away the last round, there might have been a new champ.
