This poll i inspired by Fight Night Rd. 3. I was commanding a middleweight fight with a much faster sugar ray, when I fell finally to a few of my buddies body shots from hagler in the 11th. Who do you think wins this middleweight fight if it were real?

Hagler was the best MW ever. But, I think that Rob, in top form, could eek out a decision win. This is a case of the best MW of all time vs. arguably the best of all time.

A prime Hagler would give Robinson all sorts of problems, many good judges rate him number 1 ,Mickey Duff a shrewd judge beleives Hagler beats SRR.I think they would split a series.

As long as its the pre Turpin MWT Robinson then I got Robinson on points.

sugar ray only lost to turpin the first time because he was exhausted due to poor pre-fight living conditions. he knocked him out in the return bout to win back the mw belt. joey maxim fight was a fluke. it wasn't until after his first retirement that he really dropped off IMO

I have an 86 year old freind who is a huge fan of both, and saw both fight live. According to him Haglar/Robinson would be fight of the decade in any decade.

I think maybe Haglers size would play a part in this. He is more of a natural middleweight than SRR was. Hagler by SD.

An old work mate ,now gone told me he saw the second Turpin Robinson fight ,[he was in the RN],he said it wasn't that exciting in the early rounds , but it sure warmed up when Ray landed that big right.I watched the fight on ESPN last night, and though Turpin avoided a lot of the final onslaught he was caught solid with at least 5 punches at the end ,so it was a timely stoppage ,imo.

SRR was bothered more by tall guys ,Hagler at 5 9 was a couple of inches shorter than Ray ,he ws probably stronger ,but wasn't a "bully " in the ring, and Ray fought lots of strong guys ,like Fullmer,Lamotta etc.

I'd favor Robinson to take a close decision. Really the only middleweight I pick to beat Robinson on his best night at 160 is Monzon, and that would certainly have been a winnable fight for SRR as well.

I pick Hagler in one of the best fights of all time. If Robinson was faster it wasn't by much and Marvin's hands moved plenty quick enough. Hagler's defense was better imo as he kept a tighter guard and employed better head movement. Plus Marvin was a natural MW and was probably stronger at MW than SRR. Other than that there's not really much that seperates the two. This fight will go to a decision as I can't see either one being ko'ed but I think Hagler would probably take it. Admittedly I'm a little biased having grown up during Hagler's reign but that,s the way I see it.

Whoa! Robinson's hands were MUCH faster than Hagler's. I'm not saying Hagler doesnt win, but he was in NO WAY as fast as Ray. Not even close.

It depends on which SRR shows up, the one that `massacred` JLM in 51 would beat any version of Hagler IMO & dare I say even TKO him in the 14th or 15th..... I say UD tho out of respect for Hagler`s toughness.

I'd have to agree.
The Valentines Day Massacre version of Robinson beats Hagler by UD.

Sugar Ray Leonard's fight with Hagler was close but I thought Leonard won it.
Taking nothing away from Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson was a greater fighter than Leonard. It just may follow that Robinson would have defeated Hagler. Hagler was a very good middle but my view is that he is a bit overrated.

Hagler was not in his prime against leonard though, not even close, yes robinson of la motta 6 v the leonard version of hagler would have beat him pretty easily but he would not have such an easy time v the hagler from around the time he won the title off minter, i still pick sugar but its close

I think Hagler was a shade too slow for Robinson. Ray would be just a step away from the smaller Hagler with his footspeed and a quick jab that would stay flowing through the bulk of every round. Ray would be staying away and Hagler would be looking for the 1 punch against Robinson ultimately losing most rounds in the process.
Yeah, you know your shit man, Hagler looking for one punch...

i think hagler would come out triumphant in a hard fought war over 15 rounds via a real close UD.
i think aglers harder shots would win him the rounds as robinson would be wary of his power and moving lots. I think SRR would win the early rounds but hagler would use his natural strength in the later rounds to win the fight.

Robinson was a better puncher than Hagler. How could you matter of factly say, "Hagler's harder shots etc." Robinson was an unbelievable puncher. Look what he did to Fullmer. Basilio said Robinson was the hardest puncher he ever faced.

im not saying haglers harder shots i didnt mean it that way.
i mean haglers crisper shots would have more force as rabinson would be moving and punching

Since he hated Robinson's guts, that should count for something.
