According to the book's i read and what people have mentioned, yes. This was a while ago, not sure if it's still the case. I'm sure another well known gym also train in this way, cant think of it .

I think that kind of sparring loses some of the benefits.

I don't think it does much for your toughness in taking a few solid blows. Also how can you know if you are timing shots correctly if you are tippy tapping guys on the gloves? It just lacks any kind of intensity.

I prefer the James Toney old school sparring. Call your sparring partner a bitch, cuss out his mom and give each other a good going over without trying to knock each other out.

I remember in Oz at the time, the local paper was reporting back on his sparring with Toney. Got to wonder though, why Green dosent use his range more, im pretty sure when i saw him fight he kept his punches short and stood in front of them.

Just likes a fight i guess

I'm sure it helps his strength and inside know how to stand there with Toney. Toney is the master there. Green did a good job, even though Toney was clowning around and clearly had the upper hand when he wanted to.

I'd like to invite James Toney to a dinner party.

Aye defo, was more thinking along other things. He did hell well, stuck to him, so he canna get his shots of. He was farkn sharp in there, jus before he ( Toney ) puts the "euro fighter " line at him he gets a tasty right then left to body , slips then another right. He probably near end of his session in thaa vids, maybe not.

Just was strange that at the time the papers etc here/there was saying he going over to spar Toney. I have to admit i found that a lil strange. Why Toney,i mean. Guess that was the paper's talking.

There should be a good mix of technical sparring, endurance sparring and stuff to work on sharpness. Heavy sparring is ok but in the long run it just leads to injuries. IMO of course.

It always amazes me that despite all this body sparring the Ingles have still not produced a noted body puncher.

You'd think with their hands down by their waist the body would be an obvious and accessible target :hey

I'm not saying you would spar like that every time, jeff. James Toney is a special case to survive that kind of intensity on a daily basis and still have longevity. I would just prefer something a bit more substantial for Brook than comparing each others gloves and tickling the body pad. I can't see how that gets you mentally and physically tough.
