Excellent list.
I tried when doing mine, to think of it being the the 1st January 1990...
As time has gone by, I think I would of put Chavez higher up, Pryor lower and maybe Fenech a bit higher. Plus my loathing for Leonard has grown and grown.
Although I do like doing these top 100 lists, I can understand the argument about after top 30 or so it is a bit of a mere mentions list, and the numbers against the fighters names should be taken with a large pinch of salt (Minter #62; what shit was I on?).
But Minter a side, I like this list and IMO no fighter is more than 15/20 places above or below where they should be; which for a top 100 list is good going!
:bart I am a pretentious fucker sometimes;)

Yeah, it's too difficult doing 100 because often there's nothing to choose between places 26-60 or the like. Pryor was originally in my top 10 but then I remembered that Duran won 3 titles in the decade so some may put him even higher- but he loses marks for his many losses.

Chandler and Zaragoza a bit high in comparison to Happy Lora.
Both had simlar accomplishments and Lora thrashed Zaragoza terribly.
All in all decent list though.

3 people Leonard beat being well above him makes you yet again invaluable as the village idiot of the Classic section. Please don't ever leave, or change (in any of your id's)

Duran 4th is quite laughable. I squeezed him in because he did win 3 titles, which is a great achhievement. However, he was beaten many times in the decade- and looked a right lemon when faced with extravagant boxers. I rate Tyson above Holmes in the 80s too- he was undeaten and, maybe, looked unbeatable.

All things considered, and based on his record at the end of the period, I would have to pick Mike Tyson.

Duran beat Leonard badly in Montreal to become welterweight champion. He proved he was the better boxer and fighter. He crushed Cuevas and Moore and fought brilliantly in losing to Marvin Hagler. Then he won the middleweight title by outpointing and flooring Iran Barkley. Incredible. Nothing Leonard did tops that.
Duran was easily beaten by Benitez, mashed by Hearns and embarrassed against Leonard and Laing. "Hey, he was out of shape". Funny how he never out of shape when faced with a guy that stood right in front of him. Oh yeah, he beat a faded Cuevas and immediately shouted "I want Davey Moore". Not "I want Tommy Hearns" (the 'other' 154 champ). I wonder why? Oh, we know why, sorry nearly forgot.

Good points. Roberto lost heaps and Tyson was indeed considered unbeatable by many.

Yep. Overall I, like yourself, rate Larry above Mike- But Holmes' very best work came from 1978-1982. So he was fading, slightly, as the decade was barely three years old.*
* I don't know whay I'm telling you this when you obviously know. ;)

Well in that case Tony prolly fulfilled his 80's potential i think. I wouldn't say he really self destructed. Well, maybe career choice was a bit dodgy

Danza would probably want to change his name to Ayala after seeing how El Torito tears apart Moore, Duran, and Hearns......provided he doesn't victimize another woman.

Looks like Holland's the one place on plent earth Honeyghan would have beat Leonard than.
Curry ahead of Holmes, Hearns and SRL not to mention countless others? He got hammered twice in the 80's as well as losing to Jacquot. One wonders if Honeyghan and McCallum are here for beating him. Hey, where's Jacquot!

He was also a terrible fighter, with something like a 23-9 record at the time of fighting Curry, with all 9 losses vs stiffs.
