There was actually a day when people said Mosley had good defense, but i always knew that wasnt the truth...
Fast Hands + The way his punches flow + Black, makes people think he has good defense sometimes...

But he is far from having good defense, id say hes in the same boat as Pacquiao for defense ;)

Pretty Boy, Winky, and BHop btw..

Not a bad list at all, Winky covers up well, PBF uses his agility, and B-Hop displays awesome ring generalship

I think presently Floyd is the best defensive boxer right now. Then Hopkins..and then yes Winky..I just hate giving Winky props for putting ear muffs on....theres no skill to that he is just gifted with crazy arms and the perfect body structure to turtle his entire body behind his arms. But In the most athletic sense Floyd Mayweather has to be the best defensive boxer in boxing right now. Hopkins has a good defense but it is no where near Floyd.

Ring Generalship isn't defensive boxing though. I don't know how anyone could compare Hopkins and Floyd as far as defense...Floyd can lay on the ropes and dodge incoming punches with ease. There are things that Floyd does defensively that Hopkins can not do.

If you take Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright in their primes and prime weight I'd rank them like this.

Floyd Mayweather - because of his athletic ability
James Toney - His timing was incredible
Bernard Hopkins - He controlled the ring flawlessly..good leg movement and just enough upper body movement to avoid attacks.
Winky Wright - he is just gifted with the perfect turtling body.

Anthony Mundine is a very good defensive fighter in recent times. Very hard to hit cleanly, and uses the shoulder roll much like PBF. See the Danny Green fight for reference. Talking after the Kessler fight in this instance. However best in boxing would be Bernard Hopkins. IMO. Will also add that I would place Floyd behind Hop, then Winky.

Mundine is a very generic floyd. He gets hit when he tries to do it.. Funny to see him imitate though. But Floyd over Bhop. Floyd does not need to grab and hold as much and come in with his head and other tactics used by bhop that stretches the rules to the max. Floyd is a better counter puncher out of his defense as well. Always in a position to punch, thats his main MO.

PBF is probably the best defensive fighter around today. Can't think of anyone who is quite as good.

Mundine is actually quite effective at it to be honest, although obviously not as good as floyd. He seems to have mastered the technique to a degree, and it was a key to him beating both Green and Soliman so comprehensively. Hop gets hit less then floyd, although he sacrifices his offense to do so. Still, we are comparing defense here, and Hop is no doubt the top in boxing at the moment in this regard. Floyd is very hittable to the body as shown by Oscar, where as hopkins utilises better movement.

Mundine's actually a very good defensive fighter. While quick, I think it's his offensive game that's lacking moreso then his defensive game (barring maybe chin). He doesn't throw enough punches, e.g. Look at Kessler fight. Won a few early rounds, then lost the majority of the later rounds by simply not doing anything and being outworked by Kessler (he did of course get caught with a big left hook in the 4th that probably had a lot to do about it).

I'd say arguably best DEFENCE at 168.

Pardon my ignorance guys, i thought ring generalship was considered utilizing cleverness, agility, and feinting to keep his opponent off guard. By using footwork and movement, he forces his opponent out of his fight plan. Isn't that 1 way of being defensive?

ODH hit hopkins more then he hit floyd...ODH landed combos on hopkins..didnt have much effect.. but he did land his flurries. ODH had to jam floyd against the ropes and hold with one arm illegally and land shots to the body..IN THE REPLAY YOU SEE FLOYD ROLLING THOSE PUNCHES WITH ODH RIGHT HAND JAMED IN HIS NECK...LOL:rofl:rofl:rofl Floyd over bhop. Floyd gets hit less then anybody in boxing without holding compulsively.

I agree that floyds defense is not only technically better, but it also puts him in a better position to utilise his offense. however, the fact that Hop uses dirty tactics doesn't matter unless he is DQ'd because of it. Hop uses superior movement to floyd, and his tactics although ugly are effective. Still it is a very close call, however I believe Hop is currently better at avoiding punches.
