Just new information guys, they're planning to build a statue of Ingemar Johansson in his home town of Gothenburg!

Great news, this is how big he is in Sweden, a true hero.

I cant understund some posters here. Most of you are ignorant, Johansson was Europian and I dont now why notbody of you dident put his picture in yours avatar . Johansson wasent Russian, but was warrior, Im telling this because most of you writing only for russians.

Ingemars funeral was today.

It was a beautiful ceremony and Frank Sinatras "My way" got played as they carried out Ingemars casket.

Rest in peace champ.

I agree completly and have a lot of respect for him. However, I prefer to keep my avatar as Valeri Popenchenko. He was my idol when I was getting into boxing. It's nothing to do with Johhanson not being Russian!

I live not far from gothenburg and Itīs sad that they didnīt had a statue of him when he was alive. But I hope they really put up a statue of him cause like someone wrote here, he was a champion when they where real champions with only one title. He is our (Swedens) greatest athlete all time cause he won the biggest title in the world. I met him once when I was ten years old and got his autograph, my father was so happy, like a kid in a candystore, I couldnīt understand why it was so special with this big nice man. However some years later I understood completely. A friend of mine went to Ingoīs funeral today, he was his idol.
RIP Champ.
