Used to be Mexico vs. Puerto Rico, but right now I would say yes.

With PAC currently beating great mexicans one after the other, and the Philippines winning the world cup, this is going to be a long rivalry. I wonder which country is Hoya going to match up with the pinoys next year.

I tend to root for the Philippines in most cases, however, this upcoming Pac-Man-Barrera fight is hard for me to choose, as I like them both. I'll be happy with either one winning.

Mexico already had gone long way in boxing, it's already in the history, they had a lot of great fighters. I believe Philippines just had this recognition after Pac's feat. But this nation also had greats of their own. Having these new faces shining other than Pacquiao, well I can say yes for now, perhaps in divisions where both country had rivalry.

Well, I guess you haven't heard of Gabriel 'Flash' Elorde, Pancho Villa, Rolando Nabarete yet.. These warriors and several more fighters once dominated international boxing arenas long before Manny Pacquiao was born. Maybe, it just happened that with the advent of media(fights are now easily televised internationally), Pacquiao and other PINOY boxers enjoy more exposure than those who came before them.
Nevertheless, I'm not underrating Mexico's legacy when it comes to boxing--definitely a home of fearless warriors. ;)

That's true, just a friendly Rivalry. Both countries are Proud of their warriors. Don't see any hate there at Ringside. I was sitting near the the dugout & every losing Mex fighter passed by I'll cheer them " hey Good fight Man!!" When Ponce pass by I yelled you're " Mas Macho"!! I even yelled " Filipino Mas Machoooo" when Pinoy's are leading 5-0 & after Lupe contreras just announced Boom vs Ponce. Everybody around me both Mex & Fil just laugh & have fun. Only here in boxing forum where you can find haters showing their Balls.
Wassup Knockout, where did you seat at??? Did you noticed me?? Ringside 5, the Guy holding a Flag with Pac Jacket & Pac Shirt.? Why don't you make your own Ringside report as I did???

I still think Mexico is far better boxing country than Philippines.
Matter of fact, there are rivalries between mexican fighters. They are fighting each other within Mexico. You can not say the same with Philippines.

Theres no rivalry....maybe on this site, but lets be honest....mexico/mexican americans are putting out way too many good fighters in quantity for their to be a rivalry......im not knocking the philipines(spelled wrong) but just being real.......in the last 10 years how many Mexican/mexican american fighters have been top P4P fighters as compared from the philipines.....pac is a great fighter..but he cant fight every mexican fighter.....theres no rivalry....on this site, people debate on pac vs X fighter...but when you look at boxing as a whole, theres no rivalry at all...

I agree, with whoever mentioned that theres a bigger Rivalry within Mexico itself...example Mexico City vs fighters from other parts of Mexico like Tijuana....or bigger rivalry between mexican vs Mexican American fighters.....in not saying theres a strong rivalry there, but you can probably make a bigger case for that , than mexico vs philipines rivalry....34

The more equivalent rivalry would be between Thais - Filipinos,
PuertoRicans - Cubans, and between native Mexicans and these who live in US.

I still think the rivalry between PR n Mejico, has more passion n much more history.I would like to see PR in a world cup against Philippines though.

rivalry or not i think this is good for boxing. in boxing, Mexico is like the tried and tested veteran who have taken all new comers and have proven himself in the ring. while the Philippines is the new kid on the block still trying to prove its worth.
