Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury has called Frank Maloney’s bluff after the promoter challenged him to fight his prospect Larry Olubamiwo. The 6 foot 9 inch Fury has won his two professional contests to date with impressive stoppages against European opposition and faces Russian Daniel Peret next time out in Norwich on February 28th live on ITV4..
Fury has had to look outside Britain again after a series of British rivals rejected the fight including Olubamiwo and Prizefighter champ, Sam Sexton. Olubamiwo who calls himself the “War Machine” is unbeaten in his three pro fights but his victims had a less than impressive combined record of just 11 wins from their 93 pro fights. Despite Maloney’s talk though Olubamiwo clearly wasn’t ready to go to war with Fury.
Fury’s trainer and uncle, Hughie Fury explained, “We read a piece after Olubamiwo’s fight last month that Frank Maloney was going around shouting, ‘Bring on Tyson Fury’. I thought great, here’s a British fighter who’s not afraid to take on Tyson. So I rang Maloney up and told him that if his man wanted it he could have it for February 28th in Norwich.
“He started backing down straight away and said he was actually talking about 18 months down the line. What’s he on about? His man is already gone 30 so what’s the point in waiting another year and a half for the fight to happen. That’s the difference between Tyson and these other guys, when he says he wants a fight he wants it.
“Frank says he has the best heavyweight prospects in the UK, with guys like Olubamiwo, Scott Belshaw and Tom Dallas. Well if Olubamiwo isn’t ready why doesn’t he turn up with one of his other heavyweight prospects for Tyson’s fight in Birmingham on March 14th?
“Sam Sexton was the same, I believe he was moaning that he never gets to fight at home in Norwich so when Tyson offered him the chance to fight him at the Norfolk Showground’s there on February 28th all we heard back was excuses.
“We talk about fighting these guys because we want to fight them but you get other people talking about it just to get a headline for their man. We want a British title shot and beating any of these other British fighters is the quickest route to that. We’d rather fight anyone in Britain sooner than these East European’s but at the moment they’re the only guys who will step up to the plate and fight Tyson.
“People say we’re trying to rush him but some fighters have enough class that they can be pushed on quickly. Anyway it’s not like we’re calling out the Klitschko’s or anything. We’ve only mentioned the British heavyweights and let’s be honest it’s a dead division at the moment. He’s sparred some of the top heavyweights around and none of them have bothered him so we know what he’s capable of. That’s why we want a British title shot as soon as possible.
“Part of the problem is to get sparing in the amateurs we travelled around to spar with a lot of these guys. The sparring was enough to put them off. They all know they wouldn’t last in a fight with Tyson so they’re all running ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) ‘down the line’.”
Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy revealed, “Tyson’s only had two fights but I believe the rest of the British heavyweight contenders are already running for cover. Peret should be a good yardstick for him because he’s already beaten Scott Belshaw and has never been stopped by any of the other British heavyweights he’s fought like John McDermott or Derek Chisora.”

What an excellent fight for a young prospect. If he does a number on Peret does it mean he leaps over Chisora in the British ranking?
I would like to see him fight Matthew Ellis for the Central title next.
Matthew Ellis? Didn't Enzo punch in his breadbasket?
Tyson would destroy him i'm sure, as for Frank Baloney pssh.

Audley Harrison would be ideal.
A real way to get people talking as well.
I think Tysons agrression would scare the bejeebus! out of Audley, he'd retreat into his shell

Hence why I feel it would be an ideal fight to make.
Harrison can't beat anyone that isn't a fat, old, shot, inactive cruiserweight.

i wouldnt put him in with Audley just yet. Peret is a good step up, followed by Ellis. Then he should go for Chisora. Going for Chisora he would bypass Sexton and the others and get himself mandatory for the British title, if he get McDermott he destroys him, if he get Williams were in for a classic.

Harrisons win over the brazilian was probs his best ever performance. Williams KO round 3 was only cos williams had a weeks notice.
Tyson is going to rampage through the British heavies - if they man up.
Does no one rate Sexton he looked good technically in the prizefighter contest?
I've not seen him since though.
Who did Sexton beat in the final of Prizefighter wasn't he supposed to be the big talent on the show?

I don't think they will man up.
I'd get him some fights in the US or Germany against durable opponents. The likes of Chisora will run a mile.
Sexton is good technically, but he's soft. And not just around the waist. He looks like he'd crumble under pressure.
Chisora is lazy, and no great puncher.
Williams is completely finished.
Audley likewise, if he ever got started that is.
Only Skelton and perhaps Rogan to worry about.

Britain's top 25 heavies.

Other than the top 3 or 4, I'd stick him in with any of those tomorrow.
Henry Akinwande

he should fight Sosnowski, the guy that beat Danny Williams.
He would batter Audley, even now.
Chisora would be dangerous, but is not that tall and I think Tyson would take it on PTS (over 8)
Sexton, stopped by Chisora, would have his moments but would find himself the shorter man. I don't think he'd like that and I'd bet on Fury to stop him.
What would be perfect is Martin Rogan. Aggressive, strong, fairly good stamina, undefeated....if Rogan beats Skelton it would be a fantastic win and would take him out of the picture, but if Skelton wins (I think he will win on PTS) then Rogan would be a good test for Fury.
I honestly think if he keeps on improving his conditioning then Fury will be ready for the Skelton's of this World by the end of the year.
And I like Danny Williams, he doesn't deserve anymore beatings.
JOHN McDERMOTT! Now there's a fight for Fury.

I don't see Akinwande fighting again to be honest.
I'd like to see him fight McDermott he'd batter him!
Sexton technically seemed better than Tyson but doesn't have his ferocious power.
Oh yes it was Chris Burton Sexton beat and he's one behind Tyson
Why is Sprott above Williams?

Sexton was offered the Fury fight but chickened out.
Sexton is decent but nothing special

I don't think losing to a world class cruiser weight would Ellis a non creditable opponent for a a 3-0 prospect. Throw the Area title in and you would have a top of the bill at Blackpool.
How many of you got carried away with Pele Reid 10 years odd ago. Tyson Fury has all the atributes, but lets keep it in context

yeh people did think Pele Reid would be fantastic.
remember Fury has lost to David Price twice, i get that price was a silver medalist at the olympics but he has a dodgy chin and fury couldnt hit him. i think price beat him 18-5 something like that.
Ellis was brave against Enzo when he was getting hurt but I don't seem to remember him offering much resistance

Who cares. It means absolutely nothing. Fury would destroy him in the pros, thats all that counts.

I really don't know what to make of Price.
Saw him three times in the Olympics - twice he looked top notch, if a little timid, the third time he looked like Ian Bell under pressure

Amateur and pros are chalk and cheese. At one time how someone did in the ams would be an indication of how he might perform in the paid ranks, but not these days...the codes are worlds apart

I feel like every time there is a Fury thread I'm the one that ends up pissing on people's chips. Before I go any further, I like him and want him to dominate the world scene.
Right, formalities out of the way, he's a raw talent. But I think he may get a little ahead of himself (and drag us with him). With the exception of Audley, pretty much any heavy who has over ten fights and a winning record would beat Fury tomorrow. The lad is aggressive and strong (which is why I think Audley would fold), but his accuracy is not great. I am yet to see KO power from him. And (this is my main point)... this is his third fight! Now dont get me wrong, his last opponent would have been good enough to fight an 8-0 prospect rather than a 1-0 so maybe Fury deserves to be thought of as an 8-0 type prospect that we're used to.
But, at the moment, a fight against Audley would flatter to deceive. Give him a chance to work on his pro game first.
If he wants to do things quickly then brilliant. In hindsight it didnt do Haye any harm to get in with some tough tests early on. And I like the fact that Fury wants to fight everyone, but lets not all get fooled that he'd beat everyone tomorrow. He hasnt yet fought 4 professional rounds of boxing, but we're assuming he'd beat the rest of those in the division at domestic level? A little naive I feel.
He looks exciting, I hope he does well. But lets not build him into something which he wont be able to prove he is(or isnt) until about 2-3 years time. This is how the hating starts. Someone is burdened with unreasonable expectation and then cant live up to it.
If we're saying we want Fury to clean out the division tomorrow then that is one thing, actually believing he will is another!
He could fight Scott Gammer,Chris Burton or Ellis as some are saying

He beat Chis Burton in the final who also took Matty ellis out in 2. Hes got potential but hes fights in fits and bursts. Does very little for most parts of his fights. Maybe conditioning could be better.
I think Fury would take him out at this stage of his career, hes a real bad ass.

In 1990 i think it was.. I sat in the G-Mex centre in Manchester and watched his daddy, John Fury fight Henry Akinwande .. if Tyson boxed him, it would be a historical land mark for the family.. Tyson avenges his dads loss against Akinwande.. LOL..

Seriously guys get in the ring with Chisora and do not know whether they are going to get raped, eaten or punched.
I will be impressed if Tyson stops Peret at all and if he does it quicker than Chis than those two should match up but I think ****** will keep his guy away and try to set up a fight with Rogan.
Tyson should keep on fighting Euro guys with ok records instead of getting dragged into the domestic scene. No doubt I would love him to fight for the Brit title down the line or Mike Perez who has looked great against very shit opposition.

To be honest Tyson is the typical heavyweight boxer. BIG AS FUCK AND SLOW. the dude is young and has only had 2 fights so i want him to improve but hes too big and can get hit very easily like how holyfield schooled valuev whose even taller. Still tho he has a great arm and beat the highlander till he was black and blue and red all over and but i dont know much about this other guy so i wont make a fight predicition but its a tyson win if he keeps his man on the ropes and makes sure he isnt open to a quick shane williams like side step and and butt load of Calzaghe/Ali/Pacman like punches
I think Tyson seemed pretty mobile for a big man with a good punch rate.
