View Full Version : Anybody else think buncey's show was sloppy and amateurish yesterday?

It was poor.The 'interviews' in that gym about Calzaghe were awful,with some village idiot responses and with the camera work right up to their faces as if the cameraman wanted to fall into a clinch because he was wobbly from the shit he was listening to;
Then the sound briefly went funny in the studio to go with the dodgy wide camera work. Not during a phone call, which is understandable, either.
Then what was with the pictures of Tyson whilst Buncey was eulogising over Calzaghe's career:huh.....prompting Buncey to say 'People think Joe should fight Tyson and Lewis'.Which didnt make sense.Wtf was that all about...........?:rofl:rofl:rofl
Other than this another great show.
Yes i know its normally excellent but just wondered if anybody was baffled by all this?
Everyone's a critic.

It was aright but the stuff about Calzaghe being the geatest British fighter was nonsense bullshit and the worst thing is with him going round stating it like it's fact people are actually going to start believing it.

Calzaghe being the best Brit is bollocks but its a view quite a few people hold......
I think many believe he is the best looking Brit, not the best.

i dont normally watch it i listen to it on pod cast so i dont have a clue
It was actually funny listening to Buncey wanking himself silly over Joe's 'incredible' win over Byron Mitchell! He even mentioned that by losing to Sven Ottke in the fight before that somewhow made the chinny Yank a genuine threat.
Fuck, me why not address the point? The very fact that Calzaghe only summoned up the courage to fight Mitchell AFTER Ottke had put him in his place pretty much sums up the Welshman's career.
But, no, Setanta are right - Calzaghe was a legend. The best boxer of all time. Sugar Ray Robinson would've been slapped to death.
Other than that, great show as usual.

In all honesty I couldn't believe those guys in the gym.
Amazing how dismissive they are of Lewis. Career for career... I don't know about you guys but for standard of opponent Lewis buries him imo.
Bunceys show is always a bit sloppy and amateurish..
As for a fantasy fight...

Please! Have you seen the Ottke fight?
Very dubious decision, in fact most people at the time had Mitchell winning. The fact that he had his title robbed made him a very dangerous fighter on a mission by the time he faced Calzaghe. He fought like a wounded animal until Calzaghe finished him off. It was indeed a fantastic performance by Calzaghe to get off the floor and batter Mitchell. Great fight while it lasted.
I hated Ottke but didnt find the Mitchell decision 'dubious'..

I liked the show as usual but the decision to put the guests at the opposit end to the table is very odd and makes awkward viewing. Still the programme was entertaing ind informative and JC deserves wind blowing up his arse for abit. He has just retired after a wonderful career tht ranks high on both British and world ratings. Lewis is better though.
Someone should have told Sutherland and Lawernce they were going on tv. They looked like total cunts. I felt sorry for both.

Missed it. Lewis is better than Joe, the '0' covers him a lot.
Getting knocked out cold by McCall & Rahman doesn't put him above Joe. He also stepped aside and let Holyfield fight Tyson which was another mistake.

The Tyson ref was a joke - just like the DeNiro and Raging Bull reference. Get it... A bit of irony...who should he fight? Why not Tyson. Do you get it now? Please tell me that you do?
And as for Ottke...well, he was one of the guys that Joe is charged with avoiding. So, Ottke beats Mitchell but it is controversial and then gets banged out by Joe. That has to reflect well on Joe. Shirley you can see that?
Gym shots not my fault - I'm against any outside filiming unless it is with a proper camera and proper cameraman. People have moaned about the lack of 'outside' interviews. Well, this is why. The show is a bit daft but there is - trust me - a high standard involved. There will be no more outside films that fall short in quality.
Adios.

Fine. By the way the criticism is needed. The more the merrier. The show is not yet the finished article. Somebody mentioned Soccer AM which is about 13 years old. Have you ever seen early Soccer AM shows from the first year or two? They are dreadful. It's a miracle that is survived. Also, it had a f/t staff and production and set.
The men and women and boys and girls at Setanta News break their backs to get my show up on air each week. They deserve some credit ... remember they have to work with me!

My only main criticism is the camerawork at times, which isn't the best.
I would like to see the show given a more flexible slot - starting at 2pm of course with the usual repeat times. By that, I mean..... depending on what you have to get through or what fights are upcoming, the show is an hour, hour and half, or two hours long.
I am a big rugby fan, both league and union, and have noticed that sometimes the shows are of varying length.
Sometimes there isn't a lot to discuss, and everything is done at length. Other times, especially this week, you had a lot of people on, plenty to discuss and had to rush to get everything in.
On Soccer AM, I have always felt it was crap, still do. Boots n All (the RL show) was a joke show for a bit, before it got good, then went crap, and is now good again.
The only consistent shows for an individual sport are 'Rugby Club', 'Sunday Supplement' and 'Goals on Sunday'. For a pretty new show Setanta are doing a good job.
Any criticism has to be put into perspective IMO.

I liked it. I reckon it sometimes gets a bit hectic in the studio due to the fact they are trying to fit in as much a possible in an hour with 3 advert intervals, not to mention trying to read out as many of our texts and emails as they can.

Criticism / debate about what is actually said on the show is fair game, that's the whole point of it I suppose

I thought it was a bit less 'focussed' than it normally is but still enjoyed it.
Although any interview with Nate Campbell is welcome I couldn't figure out why he'd get up so early two days before a big fight to do promotional work for a UK audience which has no way of legally watching the Funeka fight. Bizarre.

You can find it on setantas website.
the shows seems a bit fast pace ... needs to cut down on the numbers and concentrate on more in depth interviews ...i mean when they got kell on the phone for all but 10 secs the other week ,whats the point ,sort it out buncy .

You can knock the show all you want, but Steve puts together the only Boxing magazine show we have ever had on British TV.. there are live fighters on phone interviews, and some great insights live in the studio.. I think in reality we all should be blessed for that.. Just voice valid opinions , dont tear the show to bits.. Its a great watch for those who can't follow the mainstream game quite as close as others , Bunceys show fills all of the gaps.. God bless...

I can see that "and stop calling me Shirley".
I have to say I agree with the general sentiment on this thread, the Calzaghe bollock-rubbing is the sort of thing we all spent years cringing about while watching skysports, I'd hate to see Setanta go the same way.
Calzaghe is not the best ever brit or the best post war brit. Lewis' record is far better, FAR better despite having lost twice. Lewis beat Mason, Bruno, Mercer, Golota, Holyfield etc. Won the Linear title twice, unified (briefly) the titles and so on. Calzaghe's got Eubank at one end and Hopkins at the other with nothing other than Kessler (and that doesn't leap, at least not yet, more sort of stands on tippytoes but we'll see what happens with Kessler) that jumps out at you. Calzaghe holding an unrecognised title in a shallow division for a long time doesn't move him ahead of Lewis. Benn's wins over Mcclennan and DeWitt eclipse anything Joe did until Hopkins. Again, not saying he (JC) isn't a great fighter but there has to be some perspective (or honesty).

Amateurish??? Now I dont agree with him sometimes when Im watching the show, cos we boxing fans are great at not seeing eye to eye! but Bunce knows his boxing well. You cant argue with that. Remember, hes the anchorman, he has to talk boxing almost non-stop for the entire hour! If I was in his shoes, I wouldnt be able to handle it, & thats the truth.
Its OK coming on here & making posts when you got time to think, but the big man is required to talk boxing straight for around 40 minutes! I bet not many other posters here could do that.
Now I aint ass licking, Im just telling it like it is. Too many people moaning about a guy who is a well known face, has his own show, loves his boxing AND keeps in touch with us the fans. Its great IMO!
There should be more appreciation, & less moaning about errors & camera angles, its shit like that that makes the show what it is, cult viewing.
Thanks to the show I found out that my all time fave fighter Scotty Harrison is being backed up by Frank maloney, the man who was slagging Scotty of in the scottish press not so long ago! Thats great stuff. & considering the show is almost all about you englanders & your fighters, I cant see why theres any moaning!
My only moan is that I wish the big man would devote a few more minutes to scottish boxing, cos its usually all Haye, Hatton & any other englanders whose surname starts with an H.

Come to think of it, Benn DOES have better wins than Joe.
Honeyghan's win over Curry far surpasses anything Calzaghe has done, although Joe's victory over B-HOp (who is clearly in his 'boxing' prime if not his physical prime) was debatable, it was a fantastic win.
Joe's career might surpass the likes of Honeyghan, Benn and Hatton (thus far) but it hasn't topped Buchanan or Lewis' IMO.
Bunce great show mate, how about Danny Lopez vs. Naseem Hamed for your fantasy fights next week!
