I've never heard of a champion having no less than three mandatories, all promised a title fight, and all anxiously awaiting for their shot at him. They are backing up like a line at the post office.

Maskaev certainly has his work cut out for him.

Good shot of Scam Cheater there landing a punch on a complete nobody, which is how he paved his way to the top.

and you know what THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS when your promoter gets full of himself regarding where you stand with your belt and what its worth.

The negotiating and issues brought this on Oleg.
He used to just fight win or lose he had respect now its friggin star fevor.

Why is the fight in September in the first place?

The Maskaev/Peter fight should have been in June or July. Won't matter, Vitali Klitschko will beat any of those 3 jokes easy. McCall because of his chin might be the toughest, Peter is tailor made for Klitschko would be just like the Danny Williams fight.

I think all 3 beat Maskaev and I think Klitschko beats all 3

To be fair, it was Toney's decision to take on (and lose to) Sam Peter that further muddied the waters here.

If he'd taken on someone at a lower level, just as a warm up, Maskaev vs Toney would have already happened months ago.

As it is, yeah...serious logjam here. McCall wins an eliminator, but will be probably be waiting at least a year to get it.

This WBC Heavyweight situation is really a mess...the way things are going, Odlanier Solis and Alexander Povetkin will have belts before Maskaev and Peter square off.

can't remember all the details of the recent eliminators and who deserves what, but i do remember Maskaev saying after the Rahman fight and then again after the Okehello fight that his right arm was not in good shape.

anyway it turned out to be bad elbow or something that required surgery. i imagine at 39 and minus healing steroids Maskaev wants to take as much time off as possible to heal up and give himself the best chance of beating Peter. i mean, Maskaev knows that if he can get past Peter he will get a great retirement paycheck in fighting Vitali.

lol and after seeing how healing roids fucked Tow-nee up after the Ruiz bout i think Oleg doesn't want that risk.

This whole fiasco between who fights Maskaev is a bit rediculous. After they determined that Peter was getting the titleshot first, they should have had the fight signed, sealed and delivered, ready to go within the following three months.

But, for some reason, they've put it off til sometime in late September, and I am not even sure that that date is a certianty.

actually, another plusible reason is that the Maskaev camp might be gambling on Peters coming in fat. he's done so before and seems to have that kind of build + eating habits. it's quite possible, and i can see Peters not having any respect for Maskaev when he begins his training camp.

seriously, maskaev fought Rahman at a decent clip for 12 rounds and still had energy to ko him despite a bad back from training camp. peters in BOTH toney fights looked shit tired, admittedly less tired in fight 2. combine better stamina with superior boxing skills might see maskaev fighting while constantly moving back/sideways and occassionally stepping into a power shot. oh and he'd have his guard up high the whole fight. whether age catches up to him remains to be seen. (most likely i feel) but still! maskaev should not be written off yet!

Maskaev UD

I am starting to lean towards Maskaev to outpoint Peter, too. Oleg knows to stay away from Peter, and will move laterally alot, as Wlad did, and box Peter in a test of conditioning. Peter was improved in the second Toney fight, yes, but he has not improved as much as some seem to think he has.

Maskaev is a seasoned, tough, hard punching fighter who I think can pull this off through toughness, conditioning, and boxing skill. I think Maskaev is a better boxer than he's given credit for.
