Gulf in class was way too much. Lets give Jennings his dues though. He didn't quit, he did his best, he wasn't up to it.

Good stoppage though. No point in letting him get beat up a bit more.

JIM KELLY
02-21-2009, 11:02 PM
yeah , Jennings went in against a very top opponent, and hadn't even faced a top 20 p4p fighter, so i give him his dues.

Good fight. Micheal did well, he howed heart and had a good gameplan. Cotto is just to good, and that other gear is terrifying.

Everyone agrees it was a good stoppage?

TFFP

In other news...Cotto just talked about himself in the third person. I'll let him off since its in Spanish.

Just put a fiver on Cotto to win in the 5th round

Iv said it to anyone that listened, back Cotto to win in the 5th, cover the bet if you want by putting half the exact amout you have bet on the 5th round stoppage on the 4th and the 6th, ie-€5 on the 5th and then €2.50 on both the 4th and the 6th.

Fortunally i was feeling lucky to didnt cover the bet...€5 at 7/1, €40 snots back please Paddy Power

or ala Johnny Owen?

im not asking him to go that far, but im sure michael might think i could have given it a tiny bit more and who knows if i had caught him, that was michaels chance now its gone although i dont blame him nor the ref, the chance that scenario actually happening was so low,

hopefully jennings got a nice few schilings for that

JonOli

Theres not real power in his punches (and he's perhaps out of there very soon) but Rubio's been catching Pavlik, on occasion, with similar punches to Hopkins did.

That is the problem when you have guys that are so outgunned skillwise.

They are scared to even put anything on a punch for leaving themselves open to what is coming back. It results in these negative performances.

And he quit.

I've saved my prediction till now... I like mick and this is in no way putting him down as a fighter, he's a very good domestic level fighter who could do well at Euro level. I think Jennings will start fairly fast and Cotto will be somewhat suprised intially by his tenacity. But Cotto, despite been a slow starter tends to suprise opponents early, so don't be suprised to see jennings at least rocked early, maybe he'll suffer a first round knock down.

I think the It is going to take Cotto a little time to get into the fight after the initial opening exchanges. Jennnings fast hands and good movement will see him pecking away... not on the back foot but intelligently moving in and out of range. Say three rounds in Cotto will start taking over with his eye catching counters, it will still be fairly even but Cotto class will be beginning to tell. By around the seventh round Jennings will have been counter punched sufficiently to make him realise that the fight is no longer winnable on points. Here Jennings' heart and pride will hurt him. He'll start to stand and trade with Cotto. Cotto's hooks will find there way behind Jennings vey frontal guard. Jennings will wobble andas he tries to fight cotto off, Miguel will loop those left hooks into Jennings long body and force a knockdown.

Jennings won't give in, he'll prob try and get up and carry on but if he makes it to the end of the round Brian Hughes pulls him out and if he goes down again the towel comes in...

Cotto via stoppage rounds 6-9Jennings fought very well, I was really impressed and he NO WAY embarassed himself. Cottos pressure began to tell much earlier then I thought it would. In round three, I could see the pace was starting to get to him and he wanted to make a stand.... which I thought would come around the seventh... Not a bad prediction though?

Pavlik is so average.... he trades almost entirely on his freakish ability to squeeze his frame under the middle limit.. Calzaghe would have ko'd him.

GazOC
02-22-2009, 07:55 AM
Jennings just didn't have the pop to keep Cotto off him. Thank fuck Setanta showed the NY card because the Pavlik fight wasn't worth saying up till 5am for.
