If you are a starting pro boxer and already aware you have weak chin, what would you improve most, your defense or offense?

Would have to be defense for me , I'd rather be a defensive master with a glass chin than a Herbie Hide .

If at all possible I'd try to imitate Winky's style. A good strong jab and high guard to protect me. I still love watching Winkys fight with Tito. Every time Tito set his feet to throw some leather with any pop, there was a jab in his face offsetting him. Rinse repeat. I like to imagine Winky with a bit of power to go with that 1-2. Since a jab is a offensive and defensive weapon I guess both apply.

Defense.

Or better yet, take the Taylor Way: fight boxers with no KO power to build up a good resume.

Offense....

Look at how far it took Tommy Morrison...

He was forced to adapt that style since he didn't want to repeat his nightmare experience of being knocked down all over again and again and again and again in one round like he was a kid being bullied.:yep

What if your chin got checked early?

What if your chin got checked early?

If its that evident this early, you might want to consider not fighting at all.
There is nothing to be ashamed of when your brain simply can't take the shock of a punch and reacts the way it does, its just body physiology......the card you got dealt.

do what Lennox Lewis did and learn to defend well and tie opponents up. Wlad is doing the same.

One way or the other Zakman and Amsterdam will make a thread about you and your glass chin

I'd become a defensive master ANYWAY, I wouldn't like getting punched in the face to land one of my own.

Defense. If you get cracked on those fragile whiskers, it's all over. Just look at Fraudley!:yep

Defense - protect the chin

It is possible to completely avoid getting hit at all times, provided you have at least minimal physical tools to work with (foot speed, agility, coordination, conditioning). Turtle guard and elbow tucking is impregnable like a 10 year old. Of course, if you don't learn to effectively come out of your shell enough to put anything together without exposing yourself (therein lies the rub), you risk losing nearly every fight against a live body by decision on inactivity. :yep

OF COURSE he's talking about Jermain Taylor. As soon as he gets rocked by Hopkins - hardly a hard hitting middleweight - he went straight to fighting light-hitting fighters coming up from the lighter weights.

That smells like a fighter and manager who KNOW their guy has a glass chin. Now that he's been forced to fight a real MW, who hits hard, the Taylor Fraud is about to end, and brutally!!!:yep

If I had a glass chin I would do everything in my power not to get hit.

Look at Miguel Cotto..His offense is his defense and he has a shaky chin. Its taken him this far. I guess its just a matter of what your gifted at...You don't get the luxury to just pick and choose 2 completely contrasting styles to box with lol..i mean once your pro you wouldn't see Floyd Mayweather fighting like Miguel Cotto or something..Kinda confusing

Do what Roy Jones did: be so brilliantly quick with your hands, move like a mongoose, strike like a cobra, see everything around you so well that nobody even puts a glove on you 'til you're past your prime.

But retire before then.

Defense. It will become a major factor once breaking into the top 10.

Lewis coud be hurt but he's not as bad as Wlad Klit.

Actually, I'd say the reverse. Wlad has gone down more, and been stopped more often, but he's never been utterly KTFO the way Lewis was against Rahman. It's the quality of the KOs, not the quantity that are most important, all things being equal.
