Growing up, I use to think that two fighters were invincible!!!
The great JCC and Iron Mike Tyson.
Other great fighters that loved watching as a kid.
Marvin Hagler, Donald Curry, Marlon Starling, Khaosai Galaxy, Larry Holmes, Boom Boom Mancini, Micky Ward, Michael Carbajal, Roger Mayweather.
Who are some of your child hood favorites??

Pernell Whitaker mostly.

Pernell Whitaker mostly.
I know a lot of peeps on ESB love Sweat Pea, but I couldn't stand how he would always goof and clown around in the ring. He's one of the most talented and gifted fighters ever in the game of boxing, and imagine a 100% diciplined and focused Sweet Pea. I have to admit that this guy is so good, he is able to succeed while playing around and goofing off in the ring, and messing with drugs outside of the ring.

I was 21 at that time ....seems like yesterday.....
When I was a kid, Ali was da man. And I enjoyed watching Frazier too.
As a teenager, Duran, Victor Galindez, Carlos Monzon. Okay, sure, Monzon wasn't quite "hero" material personally, but he thrashed a lot of boxers I respected.
Everybody on the 1976 U.S. Olympic boxing team. I was 18, in boot camp, and we all spent as much of our off-time as possible watching those guys. And, yeh, I'll admit it... we watched a lot of women's gymnastics too. C'mon, give us a break - we hadn't been around women much for weeks! :nut

DLH and Trinidad. I remember watching DLH/Chavez in Mexico and seeing a riot unfold right before me. Bar stools and bottles were being thrown all over the place. I remember staying up till midnight just to watch DLH/Trinidad make their ring entrances.. And my Mom crying when DLH lost.
I prefer DLH's technique but love the way Tito carries himself. I studied DLH a lot as a amateur because we are both slender and he was excellent in using his body style.

When I was a teenager, it was Roberto Duran. He was the guy who was responsible for me getting into boxing and eventually deciding to fight.

I'm 30 yrs. old and my dudes were without doubt Iron Mike, also Holyfield, and RJJ. Oh yeah Sugar Ray Leonard cause his vs Hagler was one of the first fights I remember watching (and was probably the only one my parents and their freinds were talking about in the build up and excited about).

Hagler was the first guy I really admired and tried to emulate. I was a clumsy ox in the ring, but it still helped to have someone like him to inspire me on to further beatings.
I kind of envy the younger fans in this day and age. When I became a boxing fan in 1983, we of course had no computers, no youtube, no convenient access to much of anything historic other than the odd magazine article or book. Every once in a while, ESPN would air an old Duran lightweight title defense or Ali-Frazier II, or for a rare treat a Matthew Saad Muhammad fight. Those occasions were special.
It was only a bit later when I got ahold of some tapes of Sal Sanchez fights; I'd been intrigued by what I'd read for years and already decided he was cool, but the fights themselves cemented it.

Mike Tyson and Tommy Morrison..
I still believed Tommy was a top boxer with tremendous heart who due to his bad social activities had his career cut short..
And no real need to comment on Mike,im still shattered that he didnt live up to his true potential.
Benn and Eubank. I remember watching their fights with my Dad. Good times!

As a young child i was not interested in boxing. I started to like boxing when i was 13 years old. But back then, i only knew some german fighters like Ottke, Michaelshewski and Klitschkos and i was never rooting for Ottke because he was boring and always runned away. I was verry interested in Tyson but i never saw a fight of him in germany. But some day i found some interesting pages in the internet about boxing like forum and boxrec and how to download american fights and fights of the past. Today im 20 years old and i know almost every boxer today and the greats from the past and my alltime favourite is Tyson.

Before I was into the sport, I always thought boxers were huge muscle men. He changed my mind because his body (at welterweight) was just like mine
The closest thing to a "boxing hero" that I had when I was a kid was Mike Tyson. I watched his fights obsessively back when I was about 8 years old.

When I was growing up my fave fighters were: Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor and Nigel Benn. Like many though it was Tyson's reign of fury which first got me interested in the sport, well along with the fact my dad and grandad were/are boxing nut's as well. Tales of Ali, Frazier and Liston got me hooked.
I had fun trawling through his endless collection of 'Ring' mags and 'Boxing News' (the only occasions I was allowed to stay up really late were for were the big fights and MOTD. Great stuff!).
