At [Only registered and activated users can see links] Forthcoming EBU contests:
Super-Lightweight vol.def :
Giuseppe LAURI vs Juho TOLPPOLA
Scheduled Date: 18th April 2009 in Finland
Promoter: P3 Boxing
Tolppola should FINALLY get it together and take that EU belt.
He can´t for sure complain about his number of opportunities - the guy is now challenging for the 4th time for EBU or EU title, inside just over 2 years.

Tolppola should win this, the title is kind of misleading aswell as it makes it seem like they're fighting for the EBU title rather than the EU.

On the same card promising Russian light welterweight prospect Denis Shafikov takes on Juan Carlos Rodriguez from mexico. I'm looking forward to this one, as Shafikov is a seriously promising talent and a pleasure to watch fight.

After reading leifhackman´s posts on a Finnish boxing forum, I am not so sure he actually sees the difference between these titles. He´s always mixing up EBU and EU titles.
Anyway, EU title would be Tolppola´s greatest achievement so far. His best win so far is from a faded, yet ranked veteran Mapouka. Tolppola gave hell to Branco last december.

Dear VHB: I thought I did paste it straight from EBU web site, but no: It is EU fight this time. Sorry for inconvinience. I quess I was careless.. but.. what a hell.. the union is ebu. title is eu.. who can keep up with all these bloody letters. The main thing is there´s 2 guys in the ring that both really try to win!

The EBU sanction EU title fights.
EBU-European Boxing Union
EU-European Union
EBU title=European title
EU title=European Union title
EE title=External European Union title
EBU title
EBU-EU title
EBU-EE title
...and in that order exactly. :D
The main EBU title, European Championship, is the only really valid one, I mean, the title that ALWAYS is respectable and valuable. EU title can be that too, but sometimes there aren´t willing top euro contenders available, so the fights can take place with the bottom-of-the-pack ranked dudes. EE title is usually a mere curiosity among the eastern european prospects, but we do also see decent EE title fights every now and then.
