View Full Version : Setanta 2??

Hi All,
After last weeks boxing going to Setanta 2, and it looks like the JMM and Diaz fight doing the same, I want top know why? Is it a fdifferent receiver? I pay for Setanta so surely I should get channel 2 as part of the package?
Any Setanrta subscibers with help would be appreciated as I do not want to miss this coming fight......
If you subscribe through Sky or Virgin then you should get Setanta 2. However, if you get Setanta through Freeview then you don't.

It's a total piss take. The whole reason why I subscribe to setanta (through freeview) is so that I don't have to watch big fights via my shitty little computer screen...but now they're telling me that this is exactly what I have to do in order to see the sort of fights that I pay £10.99 a month specifically in order to see on my television! And I even have to pay an extra £2.99 a month to do that!
It's very frustrating, and I feel like they're taking liberties tbh. I'll just cancel and switch to illegal streaming if it carries on.

Am I allowed to post a link to the box that picks up all the satellite channels?
I wouldn't

I very much doubt they do it to take liberties, what in God's name benefit would they get?
Almost certainly some kind of licensing issue - don't they have to shut down at 3am on Setanta one or something daft like that?

look they got this fight which is good enough for me
but i do feel sorry if you ahve freeview but get it on broadband as its good quality and cheaper and has the archives of all the old fights

They're practically rail roading their freeview subscribers into having to buy the broadband service. That's an extra £2.99 a month. They're also continuing to promote the idea to freeview viewers that subscribing to setanta means getting all of their top boxing (it's certainly why I bought it). This is clearly untrue (unless you pay extra for the broadband). They are taking liberties imo.
The switch over to a top up channel has been done on previous occasions. I don't see why it can't be again....but instead they want to encourage me to fork out more money so that I can watch on my crappy little computer screen.
They're taking the piss.

its a money making excercise but what do you expect, they pay alot of money for the boxing, and on most occasions they deliver the goods. if most people are watching the boxing on freeview then at the end of the day they aint going to make a profit. setanta is business and it has to make money for them. look at it this way, they could have continued showing boxing on setanta 1, but that might have prevented them from coughing up the money for diaz vs marquez.

You do realize that people have to pay a monthly fee to watch setanta through freeview? I'm paying £10.99 a month for the service.....but I'm not getting the full product.

Cancel the freeview subscription and use the broadband service. £7.99 a month including Setanta 2 and the rather good archive service. (Full bills are available next day and stay there for months)

I think they def. need to be more clear on what the limitations of the Freeview service are. As a boxing fan I wouldn't subscribe to Setanta if I was stuck with Freeview.

Bunce and Kerr have been unusually quiet about this but I would hope they are looking into it.
I can kind of understand if the boxing clashes with a live UFC, but not recorded French football. Keep the pressure on, I'm sure they will listen.

Sky used to pull the same trick. Showing all the Premiership games on SS1, with all the Internationals on SS2. It forced footy fans to have both channels, or miss out.

They did the same with the boxing from America, they'd move which sports channel it was on so you;d have to get all three to make sure.

that would make business sense to an extent although it is purely screwing people however freeview customers dont even have the option to be extorted, setanta 2 cant be bought!
My understanding is very basic, as a mere presenter I don't get the technical stuff, but the basic reason boxing is on setanta sports 2 rather than 1 is that if it finishes after 5 am it has to be on 2.
Setanta can only broadcast on freeview until 5 am. That is contractual and pretty much set in stone. So rather than risk freeview watchers getting 11 rounds and then cutting off, the decision is made to put it on sports 2.
I can't shed much more on it than that Chinny, but it's the best I can do.
I can tell ypu the Bunce hour tomorrow is jammed though, should be a quality show and that is definitely available to everyone!!

mmmmmm fair enough andy coming on and givin us wat u can however on freeview as has been said before we had to switch to a unoccupied channel as directed by yourself at a given time.....dont wana be cheeky but speaking of contracts, how about the one where a company asks people for a subscription in return for showing them world class boxing? offer of contract-acceptance of contract-intention to enter legal relations-consideration= contract
we arent hostile! just wana feel like we are getin a fair shake............good luck with the baby steve keeps talking about!

They put the freeview fees up by a quid a month a while ago and since doing that the have dropped half of the future premiership football contract and put what seems like 80pc of the boxing on Setanta 2 - a channel subscribers can't get. :?

So if I get Virgin Broadband, will I get I get setanta 1 and 2? if so, then I will take this option but I cant be screwed around anymore.

Thats the email address of the Escalations Manager, David Hanna. Email him, he'll sort you out. The only one at Setanta worth talking to. I had problems with Freeview shutting off just as main events started, usually around 5am. He sorted me out. Very helpful. Especially compared with everyone else at Setanta who are literally useless . . .
Well done to Andy K for posting. Shows a lot of class.

Check the small print - its £2.99 for new subscribers to freeview who want the broadband service.
If you already have freeview and then want to upgrade and have broadband it's £7.99 per month.

This has got nothing to do with it, your talking about an all new 'half price' for 6 months deal.
Fact is current freeview viewers are being fucked over by getting one less channel than everyone satellite viewer who is paying the same.
We've missed out on loads of big fights (the reason we signed to setanta) because of the big fights being broadcast on Setanta 2, while pish like poker is on Setanta 1.

Seriously, even if the broadband service was free I wouldn't be happy. I don't want to watch these fights on a computer screen, I want to watch them on my television - that's what I pay setanta £10.99 a month for. It's very easy for me to access setanta through other avenues via the net, but I choose not to because I want to watch it on my television.
If this is going to be a regular thing from now on then I'll just cancel my subscription and watch for free via other methods. Just seems a waste of money otherwise. I have no interest in German boxing.

I've never really gone into it but why do we (Freeviewers) only get 1 channel anyway?
And why, if there's a big night of boxing on or whatever, can't they swap the transmission on our 1 channel to Setanta 2? Save pissing about with channel swaps and it would also keep the natives happy because what the hell else is on in th middle of the night.

man the really annoying thing about this now is that setanta are simply iignoring us. i couldnt believe that no one even said something on bunce hour yesterday. even a nod that we exist and are unfortunate etc but they chose not to. this is almost surreal.
um the reason is a contractural one----what about the contract that setanta are in with the freeview viewer????????
the reason is technical about the cut off------well then how was setanta able to tell us to switch at a certain time on a number of occasions before?????
whats going on here!!!!!

I have just noticed that Diaz v Marquez is being shown at 1100, 1800 and 2200 on Sunday on Setanta Sports 1.
A bit of a result for the freeview posse. Better than nothing.

I made a comment a while ago about the quality of fights Sky had and someone, I can't remeber who, made a really good point about Sky. He/She said that it was good that Sky was concentrating more on the domestic scene. It gives us an insight into who is coming through and early fights of people clearly on the road to bigger things. Whilst they're not the huge fights that Setanta has, it's still good that we have the resources to check out the domestic scene. Khan on PPV is still a f**kin' joke though.

I would like to cancel my subscription, my account number is ******.
Yet again, I will not be able to see the boxing tomorrow night as it is on Setanta Sports 2 and I am a freeview customer. I pay the same price for an inferior product, thus, I would like to cancel.
Can you confirm when my last payment will be taken from by account, and when the Setanta subscription will be terminated.
Thanks,

I've wrote to Setanta many times.
Nothing seems to be changing, so I have now cancelled, if enough people cancel because of this, things WILL change.
You'd sit on your ass and do nothing about anything ever, and nothing would ever change/get done.

So what have you managed to change/ get done? Nothing!!! I suppose at least you had the sense to cancel your subs instead of just moaning about it.
Personally I'd have looked at my options, made the best of a bad hand, and hooked my TV up to my laptop/ PS3 instead. Sometimes you just have to take the best option open to you even if its not exactly what you want.

I'm with Virgin (NTL as was) and am pretty sure that you have to take their full package to get Setanta for free. To be honest, it all seems much of a muchness and you're screwed all ways - they always get their money! But I'd be lost without Setanta - I mean how good will tonight be? seriously can't wait.
I was thinking of booking it onto a Freeview set I have in one of the wean's rooms but foolishly thought I'd get the whole lot! Now I know the score and won't be making that call. I also take Sky and am pretty sure that the family package with Virgn gets you some kind of discount... yet more dosh and even more if you then get tempted by PPV events. (The Khan fiasco still hurts!!! So much so that I'm personally making the trip to manchester for the next one. I don't actually blame Khan, I'm just the guy who was robbed and ****** was the robber that night.)
