Fox Sports need a new and improved ring announcer. I for one have had enough of Rick Powell with his stuttering and blatant mistakes. We need to bring in a character with a good and catchy voice that will lift the profile of the sport. Someone like Bruce Mcavaney or Richie Benaud would be great to have. Someone please start a petition and get this tub of lard eyebrow plucker out of the sport.

There is a guy who does it at Angelo Di Carlo's shows sometimes. Younger bald bloke, he aint bad.
However I think everyone here knows Michael "The ethnic Darrell Eastlake" Schiavello is the man for this job. He can commentate for the kickboxing and announce for boxing.
Ye i know he doesnt have much to with boxing - but when it comes to ring announces its all about the voice and flair. I suggest someone well know like Glenn Ridge (former sale of the century host) who has that catchy showman voice, or Even Robbie McGreggor - who is the voice behind SBS tv.

We don't want to turn boxing into a one hit wonder.

How about getting Michael Buffer live from America speaking through a live conference.
Mark Warren gets the nod with his geniune excitement and he wouldn't cost much :D

Fox sports need to air boxing cards with fighters that have a future, all we are getting lately is who the fuck is he vs who the fuck is he, Rick Powell fits in well, its crap topped with more crap.
I don't like Mike Schivello. HE is too much of a yobbo. Boxing is a very techinical sport. Having guys like Lampley is great because they are passionite about the sport, but are also very articulate and have an excellent ability to explain the sport for both the casual and hardcore boxing fan alike.
The HBO team IMO is the best bar none. They will always give background stories of the fighters, they give honest opinions of the fights, and make intelligent insights into the fight as it plays out, especially from guys like Manny Steward, or Roy Jones.
I rarely on a kickboxing broadcast here an intelligent analysis of how the fight is playing out, and what the fighter should be looking to capatilise on in order to get the victory. Its usually just a lot of yelling and one liners to try to hype the fight. As such fans never truley appreciate the level of technique involved.
We need an Australian equivalent. Someone like Lampley who is very educated about the sport but also very clear and articulate to be the main commentator, with good analyists (perhaps good Aussie former fighters or trainers??) to provide their insights and really break the fight down.
Whenever I watch the Australian broadcasts it is never the same quality. THings like getting Kostya to be a commentator is fucking ridiculous. He has great knowledge, but his english isn't up to scratch to be on the broadcasting team. At times, especailly when there is a lot happening he just doesn't posses the vocabulary or the communication skills to deliver the knowledge that he posseses, at least in english that is.

I like hearing Briggs' thoughts. Usually pretty spot on.
That said we don't need a Max Kellerman or Larry Merchant. Max Kellerman is way over the top. Americans think he is over the top, and that is coming from a country where absolutely everything is over hyped to the max.
Have you guys ever watched an american edition of fox sports news. The person announcing the show sounds like he is having an orgasm and that is just when he is announcing the title of the show.
Anyway, back on topic, these guys are not needed, Larry (captain negative) Merchant who bags the shit out of the fighters unless it is the next Gatti - Ward, and takes 10 minutes to say a sentence that sounds like he has spent 3 hours rehearsing it.
I like hearing Briggs' thoughts. Usually pretty spot on.
They were good but they didn't use him enough. I wanted them to give him the chance to say more but it never happened.

I actually missed Friday's fights, so I didn't know PB was commentating. Did they ask him about Garay at all?

Not sure mate. I was talking about the SOliman v Mundine card. I don't get to watch a lot of local stuff. The times that I see the Aussie broadcasting teams is usually on PPV's within Australia.
Actually reading back through, I am probably basing my comments on a different commentry team, as I imagine that the Fox sports team would be some what different to the team that usually works the PPVs here.
I don't rate Schivello that high just from watching the kickboxing, and I don't really like having him on the boxing, but Paul Upham ( i think???) wasn't that bad as an analyst from memory when he has been on the PPV cards.

True he really is a good analysist, frustrating though he has a boxing brain but he doesn't use it when he was in the hunt with Adamek, it was like ffs practise what you preach.

Hussy Hussein is another good commentator, I like hearing him but he tends to be a little quiet.

They just need someone with some character that can stand up there with confidence. I.E. A professional. Not a spruiker from a Pitt St Mall $2 bin shop...

Really enjoy Hussy & Briggs when they commontate as the expert analysis type.
I reckon Jeff Fenech could play the 3rd commontator role like Larry Merchant.
He says some funny punch drunk random things at times which i like.:yep
His comments about Nader Hamdan a couple months back had me laughing.:rofl
