i regret to inform you all that this fight is off, barry has been floored by a virus thats sweeping motherwell, and the doc has advised him to rest up, and that it could take upto 2 weeks to shake.

barry was hoping it was only a 24 hour bug and took a day or two off last week, but went to the gym on saturday morning for a run on the treadmill and found nothing.

previous sparring sessions with mcintyre and carslaw had been goin great, but lack of sparring last week and next would'nt be enough for mccloskey, barry will be back in the gym in a couple of weeks and be ready for anyone.

barry's hoping for the bout to be re-scheduled but realises this might not happen, due to sky sports commitments etc and also olusegun has a passport now we hear, and is mandatory, and probably will be fit for this, so he'll get the shout surely.

Damm shame. This fight looked a real corker. Hopefully the fight gets rearranged but with the depth of the division domestically it may take some time. Ajose would be a good opponent.

yep, the sky cameras had to stay around the manchester area for this one, because of the khan show the following night, this is why they never scheduled the bout in ireland, so we hope that this doesnt knock the sky diary off too much

Gutted. Was really looking forward to this one. Morrison would have brought the best out of McCloskey I believe, and overall it would have been an action packed fight.

barnes is on a ban, for not sticking to contractual commitments

If Olusegun v mcCloskey is made instead it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for one of the two fighters.

Olusegun is now down to #6 with the WBC(he may rise after the Haywood win) and McCloskey has strangely slipped from #16 to #20 in the time since he beat Lynes.

The winner would hold both the British and Commonwealth titles, McCloskey is ranked #1 in Europe, Olusegun #13(which again could rise after Haywood) so if Branco v Witter doesn't come off the winner could very well find themself as Branco's opponent. Branco himself is #9 in the WBC and as we all know holding the European title is very good for attaining a high WBC ranking.

Currently neither man is ranked by any of the 3 other organisations but a win over the other man would probably change that.

Of course in Liverpool it mightn't be the biggest sell, I presume McCloskey would get some okay Irish support there(but nothing like what he'd get back home) and I couldn't see Olusegun drawing much in Liverpool but notheless it is exactly the big fight needed to propel either man into World title contention and at least then you could truly say either man deserved his shot.

So hopefully that comes off, feel sorry for Barry Morrison though. Seems a nice lad and I'm sure he's gutted.

i personnally think it would be a good match up, but lets hope the bout gets put back 2-3 weeks before we look for another contender, but i do think this could be ajose's big shout for the brit strap, olusegun 6th in the WBC rankings? and mccloskey 1st in europe?

surely with ajose's passport he'll storm up the euro rankings, no ?

Yeah why not, i agree but then he understands what a slack/silly L means on a record given the general prep in these days ( yep he just had an 8 rounder/warm up and why shouldnt or couldnt he have a good dig in a few weeks ? )

BUT what the LOSSES are regarding the slack "L" means on a record regarding cash or integrity are i cant tell you personally.

Nice call, though i would say, ask him too.

He's actually a 1st team fighter mate (local promoters) but they have a good working relationship with matchroom I believe. Really hope he can do it and bring the Lonsdale belt back to Wolverhampton!

Mate do you know how things work in the boxing world?? You cant just put yourself up for a fight?! Cause if you could do that, I would fight Khan and batter his napper in:lol: Limond is a lightweight, end of.

I fancied a bet is all. I don't care for a bet if its Harrison, I doubt that will tempt me!

All betting sites still have the fight listed. The lack of info only a few days out is startling if its true.

Wow very interesting. Thanks for alerting me to the latest developments. Cannot say I was aware about McCloskey versus Morrisson being off. I would be absolutely astounded if they want to get in there with us and derail McCloskey's career. Our sights are set on bigger fish like Witter, Devon Alexander etc However the opportunity to go into a world title fight as the combined, Nigerian, African Boxing Union, Commonwealth, British and European champion might be to good an opportunity not to take. I like McCloskey a lot actually and was very impressed with the public service he did against Lynes.

I think you would be foolish to take a fight with McCloskey! :p

He would take advantage of Olusegun's wide and wild punching at times with his counterpunching and defence.

I would never slag McCloskey off. However I think the foolish action would be for McCloskey to take on Ajose especially at this stage of his career. The shame is you mistake Ajose punching variety. Ajose has so many ways to skin a cat. Ajose is not Colin Lynes is all I would say. Like I have already said I like McCloskey a lot actually.

He's good imo yeah, throws some nice crosses, decent body punches, maybe needs to vary his punches a bit more though, think it maybe a bit of a big task this one though, taking it at only 2 weeks notice like, I hope i'm wrong though, really want the lad to be the first to bring that Lonsdale belt back to Wolverhampton in a long time.

His only defeat was a close points decision for the English title against Scott Haywood, many people had Dean as winning it, also took that one at late notice.

Come on Deano!!
