I guess few people consider it a serious infraction worthy of warning against.

Can anyone say what the advantage is of slapping. To my layman's knowledge I would have thought it would be significantly less powerful than a traditional punch and probably adds to JC's hand problems.

Seems to me that Calzaghe's slaps dont hit low enough on the glove to cause that.

yes, calzaghe slaps a lot.

08-20-2007, 11:18 AM
well you put less energy into it. you can throw 5 slaps to 3 taps.
look at a fighter say meldrick taylor he has very fast hands but doesnt sit on his punches. calzaghe sits on his back foot and throws harder faster shots...good eonomics to me

Kessler is not getting any help from the ref in his upcoming fight. He has to win this one all by himself.

Another quick stoppage Sheika was clearly firing back

Joe gets refs help yet again
Look closely at Sheika's punches. Thrown like a lady! To be honest i thought the stoppage was a bit early, but the finish would have come sooner or later.

just let them fight .

are you not glad calzaghe v kessler is happening ?

what is it with all these "calzaghe should be d/q, calzaghe should have point deductions, etc etc before a punch has even been thrown.

it is not as if calzaghe has not aready had 40 plus fights throwing the exact same slaps as he did in his pro debut, that anyone should be surprised by the way he throws punches.

what is it exactly , some posters on esb are asking for ????????????

seems to me they want kessler to win by default or the fight not to take place.

kessler will know what to expect , and yes every calzaghe opponent bar none in the build up to the fight says calzaghe slaps.

nothing new there, he does.

Thats why he stays in the UK. Calzahge is actually a good fighter, with good handspeed and hes tough. I hope to see him in more high profile fights, he deserves it.

bort is right.

the more childish of the danish/kessler fans have said kessler v calzaghe must happen.

now its occuring they want calzaghe d/q for punch technique .

mind you there will be morgan palle threatning to pull out in the lead up to the fight over one thing or another, judge/ref/ring size/colour of calzaghe`s shorts/ring girl not got 36dd/ etc etc.

In Australia he would be called for 'cuffing', not sure what the rules over there are? After the Hatton/Tszyu fight I'm not sure there are any.

He can get away with it, since he almost only fight in UK with WBO(****** Boxing Organization),In other countries with other referees he would not be allowed to use this style throughout a fight

so how do you explain his two fights outside the uk where he wasn't warned/deducted points/dq'ed for his style?

take alook at the tko against peter manfredo jr. its on youtube aswell, watch it in slowmotion....not ONE single shot is legal...but who cares??? J.C won,and thats it.
Kessler knows what he have to expect..and he will be ready!!

I guess you hit faster when you slap, but why has any of his opponents not done the same, I guess it with be hard for the judge to punish them only?
I dont think it was a issue against Lacy, and i dont think it will eigther against Kessler.

Can use wider angles with slaps, harder to see them comming. Thing is, they were ringing Shieka's bell, keeping him off balance. Pretty nice work and timing by Calzaghe.

Little more powerful than a jab, I think these types of punches are dangerous, not enough power to floor someone, but enough to cause brain dammage in a drawn out fight. If he turned those punches over they would still land though.

1: there is a f.... long time to nov. 3rd, so theres nothing strange in us looking at every single detail regarding this fight, incl, calzaghes slapping!
2. so u are saying that if it were common known that kessler were delivering lowblows in every fight u wouldnt metion it on this forum?
3. is it or is it not legal to punsh with the inside of the hand in boxing?

aliwasthegreatest

yea slaps are enough to sting you. hit you in right spot and they'll fuck up your equilibrium. they're easier to throw effortlessly fast and in combination and harder to see coming.

van the man

Every fighter who has faced Joe has sad that his slapping will not be enough to stop them.

Yet, he stands undefeated.

Funny that... maybe he knows something they don't...?

is it or isnt it ok to hit with the inside of the glove?
we are not arguing wether jc are undefeated or a great fighter ect ect

The most damaging punch in that combination was not a slap!! I am tired of seeing congalines of poeple lining up to vent there spleens. Some poeple ar just born crybabies!! grow some balls girls!!! :verysad :patsch

:happy :happy :happy :happy if u dont want so many rules u should begin support the mma and ufc instead m8:hi:

Very few of those shots landed with the inside of the glove, the majority were landed with the tip of the glove at an angle which if thrown by a less accurate fighter would have landed with the inside, only one or two of the shots in the video were iffy and if I were you I would get used to those punches because Kessler is going to be cut to shreds by them.

Does a real Viking need to talk shit about his poor half Italian/half Welsh victim? No. Also, a real Viking would know that talking like this invites bad luck.

ok, now it is talkining shit to point out something that jc does that is obvious against the rules of boxing?:think :huh hmmm i never claimed that if kessler looses nov 3rd it might be because jc slaps now did i?
