A quality fighter, just short of genuine world class I think, tough, big hearted and brave.

A real shame coming so close to his brothers death. He'd have got a world title if he fought today.

RIP.

rip indeed... great boxer who gave foster and conteh some of their toughest moments. Not wanting to split hairs but I'd say Chris was certainly world class, he was opnly beaten by the best at a time when the talent was high and there was more contenders than 'champions' unlike now. If he was fightingh today Chris would be a world champion with out a doubt:bbb

If you have the chance check out Finnegans victory over Kiselyov at the Mexico olympics...IMO its the greatest performance ever by a British amateur.

Brilliant amateur and an excellent pro fighter who had misfortune of being around with Foster and Conteh, but still, he gave both hell!

Britains greatest olympian for me apart from Dick McTaggert. Great pro as well in a great division in a great era. Sadly missed.

A sad day indeed I followed chris & brother kevin during their careers around the smallhalls & then on to the big arenas like The albert hall, wembley,& nottingham chris never gave less than his best & gave a very worth world champ Bob Foster one of his toughest fights, his fights with John conteh were classics. He was without doubt one of the toughest british boxer of the last 50 years. Rest in peace Champ

One of my first sporting memories is being allowed to stay up late to listen to the Foster fight on the radio with my dad. We were banished to the kitchen because my mum dfidn't want her TV viewing spoilt.
