Would the greatest welterweight of the early 1980's manage to defeat his modern (technically) linear successor?

Cross Trainer, most of your threads are excellent, but this is one of those rare anomalies that truly puzzle me.

Not half as bad as the "Jimmy Wilde with brass knuckles vs. Valuev", though. :D

NO competition, Leonard would destroy Baldomir Easily. Reminicent of Leonard vs. Kalule. A good fighter but too slow & outclassed.

Leonard would light him up, then turn his lights out.

My only question would be what round Leonard would finally manage to close BOTH of Baldomir's eyes.

Not half as bad as the "Jimmy Wilde with brass knuckles vs. Valuev", though. :D Well, that one was a funny thought and had creative potential. This one just seems like a mundane match-up between a great champion and a tough-but-limited flash champ of a later era that would inevitably end up with the former winning a UD, with the only real question being how wide the scorecards would be. Aside from Homicidal Hank, I doubt there's anyone on this forum who would really disagree with that.
EDIT: Scratch that; I see even Hank agrees on this one.

True, but I've always thought that Baldomir, as the linear champion at 147, at least deserves the right to fantasy a matchup like this. Yeah, it would probably be a wipeout, but he should get his shot anyway.

Well, he's the former linear champ now, but either way, I do suppose there's merit in giving a guy his chance even when you don't think he stands one. Otherwise, Baldomir would never have gotten the title from Judah in the first place.

Precisely. And yes, perhaps I should have said "a linear champion" after his recent defeat.

Well he's no BUM. But he's not in the elite class. Perhaps he stood a better chance of a match up with other Welterweight champions. Palomino, Cuevas, Duran, or Gavilan. Even a shootout with Napoles would have been pretty interesting...Baldomir's solid chin would have kept him in the fight, and Napoles' tender skin would have made the bout very interesting. Or even a slugfest with fellow toughman Armando Muniz.

Leonard would beat him worse than Mayweather did, AND close the show.

I dont think SRL stops him. I belive SRL would out point Baldomir, on wide scores. I think Baldomir strenghts comes against foes that COMES at Baldomir, so I think he has a chance against say a Walker, or Basilio, Because he could make it a close fight,(I still think he loses these fights) but he has a better shot at beating a brawler type of fighter than a great defenses boxer.

More interesting would be if SRL could only win via stoppage.

Baldomir is like a piece of rock he will probably stand there all 12 rounds and lose. Lenord is too fast for him

I think any ref who lets this go 15 must have some kind of sadistic fetish.
I dont think Leonard knocks him cold or even drops him but he would land so often, so hard and so accurately that there is just no way that I can see any sane corner or ref letting it go on.

Baldomir would obv injure Leonard's fist through brutal repeated headbutts. TKO7.

Man, this is an old thread by the looks of it. Don't think Baldomir would go down but Leonard would stop him after five or six terribly one sided rounds.
This would resemble a public execution, Leonard lands every flurry he throws and it's up to the referee whether or not he would stop the fight since Baldomir's not going down

every so often this thread some how appears back on the first page.
This is some type of magic or something, perhaps Baldomir can beat SRL.

A complete shutout and maybe even topped off with a late rounds stoppage for SSL.
Baldo wouldn't go down, but the ref would show that he wasn't a sadist and would stop a meaningless mismatch like this after nearly every one of Leonards flurrites and pot shots and jabs landed.
Now I think it ends in under 10 rounds.

This shit ends inside of 5. And who says Bumlomir wouldnt go down? Yall are acting like he's Lamotta or something. He never faced anybody with the handpseed/power combination that Ray had.
