View Full Version : Has anyone else got a bit fed up with Hatton?

I used to enjoy Rickys fights and felt he had a good attitude all through the WBU days and up until the Tszyu fight. But is seems from around the Maussa fight his ego has been gradually increasing to the size of a whale.
-He ALWAYS talks about himself in the third person.
-Always claims to be the peoples champ etc etc and tells us hes doing us fans a HUGE favor when he fights in the UK.
-Constantly claims to be exciting...John Ruiz doesnt do that..neither should Hatton.
-The P4P TITLE...hes always trying to fool casual fans that if he beats Floyd/Manny then hes p4p number 1...sorry but it doesnt work like that Ricky. Was Forrest p4p number 1 after he spanked Mosley? Was Taylor p4p number 1 after he decisioned Hopkins? No and No.
Its rare im turned off by a fighter iv always followed but its certainly happened with Hatton and i know im not alone.

He's cool in my books, and ill be rooting for him come may.
I know people are mad with rick about the whitter rejection fight, which pissed me off at times. But Dude goes out and fights the best!
His attitude and character is humble compared to calzaggy, khan, etc!!

Same here,I like Hatton, He's talks some shit sometimes and the p4p talk is just pure nonsense but really he's alright.
As for Ducking Witter, if taking on Mayweather and Pacquiao doesn't make up for that then i don't know what will.

I've just learned to accept his downsides such as the pound for pound title and other hype bollox but he has been great for british boxing and is giving us some of the biggest and most exciting fights. He still has a likeable personality to me.

I never used to like him, but i like his humour and personality now. ha ha i am laughing just thinking about him. He know's what he is saying, and i think he know's half the stuff he says, may annoy people.
That's what i find funny..

I know through reading many of your past posts you absolutly adore the ground Calzaghe walks on - he can do no wrong with you. You once said you were choking up during the worst ever 24/7 with Joe in.
Joe is far worse at the sort of things you describe... so disliking Hatton purley for the little things he says makes you a bit of hypocrite imo.
Anyway, I don't bother watching or reading interviews Hatton does. Once you have seen or read one of them, you have seen or read the lot as far as i'm concerned. I find him generaly, in interview, rather boring to be honest.
I like the way that he has took on Tszue, Pac, Floyd and possibly JMM though.
Generally I think he's OK and has been/is very good for British boxing.

He talks about himself in third person because largely that is what boxers do. They act like the boxing side of them is an alter ego. Roy Jones went as far as to name his boxing alter ego.
He claims he is the people champ because that is his selling point/angle. Hatton understands he is a product and while some of us might hate this, it is the reason why he is so well off and well known.
Hatton really isn't fooling people with the P4P thing. Neither Forrest nor Taylor were established P4P fighters. Your examples are similar to Hatton beating Tszyu and no one made him P4P1-3 after that. Hatton is an established P4P fighter who should rank between 5-10. Beating the number 1 can make him number 1 especially considering that JMM lost to Pac and JMM is supposedly the other fighter in the running for the number 1 spot.

Don't agree with all of this but that talking in the third person is becoming very annoying. It works for somebody like James Toney because blowing his own trumpet has been his style from day one but not for Hatton, it's becoming cringeable. Get a grip Ricky.

I brought him up because you wont have a bad word ever said against the guy (I used to think you were related to him) and yet he is a guy far worse at the sort of things you describe. Yet you only rip into Hatton for it. That is kind of hypocritical in my book.
As bad as Hatton is, I can't see him calling himself a legend killer after beating Aaron Pryer now.
At least keep your criticisms constant. If this sort of thing gets your back up well apply the criticism to all fighters.

He fights the best, he brings boxing back into the public eye, he is charasmatic and a funny fucker. I think he has been and still is brilliant for british boxing.
The third poerson and P4P thing gets a little irritating, but i can live with it if he continues to provide top class fights.

Ricky Hatton: Well, one it's a phenomenal achievement what Manny's done, he won his first world title at 106 pounds. So that's incredible there, a man fighting at the weight he's fighting at now. I would say, no disrespect, obviously intended, but being Manny's weight, when you look at - say if you win a title at superbantam weight, which is 8 stone 10 and then you move up to featherweight, that's just four pounds for the 9 stone match, then up to super featherweight, it's just another 4 pounds, for 9 stone 4. And then if you move up to 9 stone 9, it's just another 5 pounds. Well, once you get to junior welterweight, you've got to move up a full 7 pounds. It sounds like I'm being a little disrespectful to Manny, which I'm not.
No disrespect to Ricky but he's not very good at maths.

No disrespect to Ricky but he's not very good at maths.
he keeps saying 'just another 4lbs more' as if it's not that big a deal, but he's basically admitted himself and all the zealots keep implying Hatton himself cannot handle his first jump in weight just 7lbs north. A few lbs is a big fucking deal then, ain't it Wicky.
The difference is Pac is an amazing fighter who is good enough to handle guys who are naturally much bigger. Hatton is a limited bully who spent years feasting on smaller guys and shot or semi-retired 'name' fighters, often with his own special ref and his own pack of orcs screaming him on. He's been found out since.
He only has a chance against Pac as he's undoubtedly bigger, and most likely stronger. If he does win and declare himself p4p king my boot will go strraight through the TV screen.

Boring, boring!!!!
This had been done a zillion times normally by about 3 people who just have the same moan but change the thread title.
Plus you dont like Hatton talking in the third person, yet every top boxing star does it from Roy Jones through to David Haye.
Also no he wont be the p4p 1 if he beats Pacquaio but it should elevate him into the top 5.
And i bet you are probably a big Haye fan and you like his attitude/arrogance he portrays yet you hate on Hatton who is no where near as in your face as Haye.
Once again ive met Hatton and i havent a bad word to say about the man.

Anyone else think that the recent de la hoya-quartey decision was a bit dodgy?
It was a very dodgy decision Jeff as was the decision win he got over Pernell Whittaker in my opinion. One of the issues I have with Oscar De La Hoya is the way his performance level dropped in a genuine 50/50 fight whereas when you put in against someone way below him he performed like a flat track bully. I may be being hard but I have always considered him a very good fighter rather than a great fighter.

I've met Hatton numerous times on nights out and he is a sound lad.
However, I can't help but feel that he tries a little too hard with his comedy routines when interviewed on tv and in general always trying to be seen as 'one of the lads'.
