What happened with this guy and with the fight?
There was no news for a while, after daily bombardments of spin and hype, and then there was this:

2009 Froch-Taylor unraveling?
Is the camp of WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch may be having second thoughts about facing ex-middleweight champion Jermain Taylor? The Taylor camp has announced that Taylor will fight Froch on April 25 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is already onboard to televise the clash. The Froch camp, however, has denied that a deal is done. Froch had previously publicly called out Taylor and proclaimed that “they will need to drag Taylor to the ring kicking and screaming because I don’t think he wants any part of me,” and offered to come to the U.S. to fight him. Taylor warned over the weekend, “Froch has been running his mouth a lot, now it’s time to shut him up!” Stay tuned…
...and then, nothing again.
Are they still negotiating? If the fight is on, where's the interviews and hype? Where's the confirmation from Froch/Fat Mick? Froch's not the shy, quiet type, is he? Where's the chat coming from his end?:huh

In which case it must be about 98% done. Can't see there being any major issues now, the money, date and venue all must have been agreed upon otherwise the Taylor's people wouldn't have announced it. I reckon we'll get official confirmation next week.

Buncey said yesterday that anyone wishing to go can book their plane.
He's that confident, so I assume he's heard something from Froch.

No...it's not as simple as that. And Taylor's people didn't announce it...not the way they usually do. Just a guy from their camp saying it was a done deal.

Heard something? Then why didn't we hear something? :huh
What's the big secret that must still be kept? Why can't they at least say the fight will be officially announces next week, "because there are still a couple of Is to dot and Ts to cross"?

It's very rare for someone to come out with as much detail as that and then for the fight not to go ahead. There's obviously some stumbling block but I can't see it being anything major. Froch obviously really wants the fight and if it was some demand from Taylor's end I'm sure he wouldn't have been shy in informing the whole world about it by now. If it was something major then we would be hearing the bickering between the two camps, like it has been for Wlad v Haye.

Right, so if it's not something major, how do you explain the article I posted (sent by the Taylor camp, presumably) and even assuming it's a negotiating tactic aimed at getting a small concession, why isn't Froch hitting back with similar press-releases? And if it's 98% done, why isn't Froch/Fat Mick talking about it?

I think Taylor presents a very dfficult test for Froch, he was excellent against Lacy.

I still really rate Taylor and believe that he will become the dominant fighter at 168.

You've been around the block a couple of times; don't you think it's strange that this fight has not been officially done and dusted yet, given everything that's gone on so far?:huh
Decebal which round is Frochy going to win in? Ninth?

Froch me if I know. Don't think he'll win, to be honest.
Anyway, back to the thread.

I rate him too but his major failing, to me, is that he doesn't have the desire to dominate, either in fights or his division.
He just lacks a bit of desire IMO
Very tough fight for Froch though

I think a lots on the line for Taylor and his team. They know if he loses they really have nowhere to go so they are probably trying to ensure he's got every negotialble advantage both financially and professionally. I don't think the fight will happen yet. I don't think that Froch, even with the title, is a big eough name for Taylor or HBO. Thats where the problems will lie. Froches demands will be viewed as excessive by the yanks and Taylors entitlements as a challenger will be considered equally ridiculous. We'll see.

I think people need to get the concept of Taylor being a challenger out of their heads. We're not in the eighties anymore, HBO don't care about the alphabets and haven't done for a long time. Just because Froch picked up a vacant belt doesn't mean Taylor, or HBO, are in anyway obligated to yield to the demands of, what they deem to be, a non-entity.
This may sound harsh but it's the reality. I respect Froch, loved the Pascal bout but, he's not entitled to a bout with the former world middleweight champion simply because he holds an alphabet strap. I hope the fight happens, and think it will, but if Froch thinks he can swagger up to the negotiating table and give it 'champion this, deserve that' it's a misguided approach.

i think the delay is frochs end, i wouldn't be surprised to here if frochs team getting a little cold feet as lets be honest... taylors resume is well quiet impressive on the names he faught. Also taylor has a lot more skills then froch so frochs only chance is to land a big shot wobble taylor and go for the kill. No way he can out-box taylor so hard hard fight for froch

...As in...you were a pro, so you know quite a bit about the shenanigans that go with the wealing and dealing part of the business...;)
I think you and dan have put your fingers on it. The Taylor camp is playing it on the brink because they realise Froch is desperate to get the shot at him, given the risk/reward. The Froch camp, on the other hand, don't want to give up all the possible advantages they might have, and might insist on certain things like ring size, gloves, etc. that a champion might under normal circumstances be expected to demand, with little to show for it, it seems. So, the Taylor camp put out this letter saying: either take it as we'll give it to you, or fuck off, and then you'll have to explain to your fans why you didn't want it...
...this could explain why there's no response or word from the Froch camp on this...they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they admitted that ring size/ gloves, etc. might be the dealbreaker for them...
...Taylor really seems to have Froch by the balls in this one...but the risk/reward is so good that Froch will just have to take it no matter under what conditions...:think

I think this fight will still be made, It just seems to be the way these days, rumors are flying daily and negotiations are terribly slow, everything is played out on the net.
It was the same with Hatton/Pacquiao and is the same with Haye/Wlad.
It's a logical fight and i don't think there's any ducking going on, just dot the I's and cross the T's but it's such a fucking tedious business with all the lawyers and TV networks, Not to mention the actual fighters demands.

Official confirmation, buddy. You know...confirmation that the deal was signed and dusted. Either that or an explanation why the deal is not yet done and dusted.

I reckon so. I don't think this can fail to be a barnburner, and in a relatively small arena it should be great.
Hopefully a few real boxing fans will make the trip over rather than the tiresome 'who are ya' football crowd. Come on the Cobra :good

So...if this nonsense is unimportant, why does it take so long to get an official confirmation? What could be so unimportant it takes weeks to negotiate?:huh

Froch's gone quiet becuase he was hopking Taylor wouldn't take the fight. Now Taylor has called his bluff and more importantly is the Mandatory. The only way Froch can get out of this fight now is to drop the vacant belt he won against the part time policeman, Pascal.

Nah...Froch wants this fight badly because it's great risk/reward, given the alternatives.

I like Taylor, and felt he narrowly won - arguably drew - both BHop fights. but, for me, he lost it when he didn't beat Pavlik first time out. he was so pumped, and so close to stopping Pavlik... froch is big, powerful, and his best punches very, very accurate. he lacks handspeed, but he'll have enough

hmmm...what's the point of being accurate if you're slow? Anyone can be accurate and slow. Granted, when you have a lot of power and are tough as hell, that might help, but still...if the other guy is sharp, fast and doesn't make silly mistakes, and knows how to survive in tricky situations...you are a bit screwed.
