"Headlining is former two-division world champion Zab Judah against an opponent to be named. Organizers are seeking an opponent from the U.K. and are currently talking to a well known Manchester fighter."

Could this be Craig Watson or some other 'Manchester' fighter, possibly Matthew Hatton, or David Barnes at Light-welter?

:think

Is Judah not down at light-welter now? So might be Barnes.

Interestingly both Barnes and Watson are with hayemaker now.

the only manchester (and close by) welterweights i can think of are matt hatton (although he usually fights on ricky undercards), craig watson and michael jennings.

maybe he wants to get jenno and try doing a better job than cotto

Found this:

Platinum Promotions in association with Big Fish Boxing are planning the return of Zab Judah, the night before Hatton vs Pacquiao, at the 7,500-seat arena at the South Point Hotel Casino.

There is talk of Judah facing Ricky Hatton's brother, Matthew - but with Judah poised to return to 140lb it could also be David Barnes according to other speculators.

The card will also feature a heavyweight fight with Javier Mora and popular Filipino Balweg Pangoyan, to capture some of the Pinoy's in the city for Pacquiao's fight with Ricky Hatton.

Matt Hatton springs to mind, sets up Zab nicely if Ricky gets past Pac....

I believe if Hatton gets past Pacman, he will have bigger fights on offer to him than Judah, who is almost turning into just a gatekeeper.

I think Hatton could face someone like Judah if he looses against Pac.

I'd hope he'd retire if he lost. He'll have hada very good career at 140 but came up short when he fought the real top fighters around. No disgrace. The only other option worth considering is the Holt/ Bradley winner IMHO.

I think he'll want one last fight in the UK before he calls it a day.

Ricky Hatton's farewell fight at somewhere like Wembley against a good but beatable opponent. He's mentioned a few times that he wants to fight in England after Pac.

Bami is fighting Hatton... thats a big ask for Mathew but a winnable fight. Watson or Barnes I reckon. He was matched with Ashley Theophane a while back. He should re match Witter.

I did not realise Bami was still fighting. I think this could be excellent matchmaking for Matt Hatton.

Bami is still a useful gatekeeper at British level.

It is a real shame it is not your boy Ajose. He could really do with this type of named opponent otherwise he will still be fighting low end domestic fighters a year from now. And Americans have no idea where Manchester is so the fight could be the one mentioned.

I have no hesitation putting Ajose in with anyone at 140 pounds. If the truth be told I also fancy his chances at 147 and even 155 pounds. Judah is a name but would beating him now really prove much after he has been beaten and already stopped a few times? One of the reasons we were delighted with the recent Scott Haywood victory is that it was meaningful in that Haywood really fancied his chances and has never been stopped in the professional ranks and being the English champion. It is one thing to win a title fight or defence but we needed to win impressively after the below standard by his standards win against Nigel Wright last year. Personally the real targets are Junior Witter, Devon Alexander and the Winner of Timothy Bradley and Kendall Holt. I thought Urango was actually impressive against Ngoudo. Needless to say I would absolutely love a contest for Ajose against Hitman Hatton in Manchester followed by a rematch in Nigeria after we win in Manchester. I know the chances of this one happening are slim after Hatton versus pacman in May and the likely outcome.

Who ever Judah faces, I hope the result is negative for him. Would be a great double for the Hatton Bros. Ricky Belted Tszyu....who belted Zab.... who was belted by 'lil Hatton.

Probably a silly question but did you go to the Barnsley Metrodome to see Ajose fight Haywood?

I am from Barnsley and obviously made the short trip to see your man fight plus the entertaining Munroe vs Martinez fight. I was very impressed by Ajose on the night and cheered him on through out his fight. I thought maybe he should have finished it 1 or 2 rounds earlier but he seemed to take a breather one round then continue the barrage the next.

I was sat next to the lady friend of Ajose during the fight. A very nice and poilte lady she was.

Thanks for the encouraging. A great night of boxing indeed. Beeston Brawler was there as well and was very impressed. I am personally happy it went 7 rounds otherwise some might have claimed that Haywood got caught cold had it ended in round 1 or of which there was a great chance. I was particularly glad because I know Haywood fancied the job and was up for it until reality hit him round 1. I would also draw our attention to the fact that Haywood is a switch hitter like someone else in Britain and had never been stopped as a professional.

Haywood was built for Ajose though. Little power and came forward in straight lines. I did feel a little disapointed Ajose did not finish the fight a round or two previous but his performance was fine overall.

Ajose needs a fight against someone like Zab or another gatekeeper because he may not be able to relax so much against the elite fighters.

Good points dwilson. Though I am not sure whether Haywood was made to order or whether Ajose made it look like that on the night. What I did know beforehand was that Haywood had never been stopped and that Ajose had to win impressively. Some people like Boxing News Danny Flexen actually picked Haywood to win I think they like Haywood thought his switch hitting awkward style and height would mess Ajose about. However by the time a fight starts Ajose becomes anyone's nightmare. The better the competition the better Ajose fights. I think Judah would be a good fight but personally I would prefer Junior Witter or Timothy Bradley next. Put it this way doing a job on Witter will please the Hatton fans
