Alot of people are calling this 50/50 fight, which I have no problem with. However, Cotto is being tauted as the next big thing. If he wants to make the leap to elite status, there's no way he can loose to an old ass Mosely. Mosely is still good, but let's not forget that he was an afterthought until he beat up on a washed up Vargas twice. Many young fighters have had a cagey old veteren thrown in their path and have had to school the older man in order to prove themselves worthy. Think Tyson vs. Holmes, Holmes vs. Ali, De La Hoya vs. Chavez, and Taylor vs. Hopkins(the jury is still out on Taylor). Young fighters who have the potential to be elite simply do not lose to 36 year old fighters. Cotto is a damn good fighter, and I have been very impressed with him, however if he loses to old man Mosely than he'll definately drop a notch or two, and will have to work hard to earn his way back to elite status.

What happens to Cotto if Mosely wins
So what happens? He fights on . . . Cotto is a young fighter. One loss is not the end of the world especially if it's coming from a fighter named Mosley. :yep
Can't win them all buddy. :D

If coto loses he'll have one or tw "come back" fights before reentering the big time. Losing to Mosely is not going to end his carrear.

I'd make it 80/20 Cotto. He is simply too strong, too relentless, and Mosley is too old.

If Cotto puts on an impressive display even in defeat, He will gain a measure of respect not achieved in all of his wins thus far. As long as he looks impressive he is in a no lose situation...

Of course you can't win them all, but you can't be an elite fighter if you lose to a 36 year old fighter, especially one who was considered washed up not too long ago.

this is the only ridiculous side to boxing...A boxer loses his first fight or so and suddenly he losses all his ability to box or is no longer a good fighter. Its crazy and i hate it, ppl get bent out of shape so hard when a boxer losses its like...Who cares? they are still young...still can fight...Seriously its like boxing is 100% business now adays and people don't want to see losers fight..But in such a brutal sport like boxing how can we treat boxers like that..If Cotto losses he definitely deserves to return to big fights and definitely deserves to recieves the same type of attention and draw as he has now..And that goes with ALL top fighters who lose a fight or two...It really makes no sense to me at all.

Just pray his chin holds up. If anybody is going to finish him off it would be Sugar Shane :yep
Cotto has a fan-friendly style, he can afford losses to elite fighters and still make plenty of money...hell DLH has lost to EVERY elite fighter he's faced in their prime, and look at him...:good

Marco Antonio Barrera was considered washed up a couple times. :deal
You aren't washed if you're 'considered' washed up. You're washed up when you start losing regulary to guys you would normally beat.

Win/Lose/Draw Cotto will be a major force in boxing. Losing to Mosley does not mean he's been exposed or that he was overrated, etc...A loss to Mosley is not a nail in the coffin.
I give Cotto a ton of credit for making this fight. If he loses, and he should be the favorite, I imagine it would be like Azumah Nelson losing to Sal Sanchez (except Sal wasn't "old")- Lost to a great fighter early in his career but became a great fighter nonetheless.

Nah nah nah nah . . . he can lose to Mosley but he can come back and defeat the rest in the division and unfy the titles. So what if Mosley is 36 years old? He is still regarded as the No 2 man at welter . . . so saying that Cotto won't be an elite if he loses to Mosley is just plain bullcrap. :yep

It really depends how Mosley beats him, if its close or controversial then he can go back to fighting other top guys immediatelly and then rematch Mosley, if its decisive, he will have to take a longer break and the comeback will take more time.

There is no question about Cotto losing. Mosely will never have been hit so hard to the body.

If he loses do what any real Champion would do take a few weeks/months to think about your situation and get a fight on HBO in Putero Rico in March vs a tough guy like Luis Collazo.

I want shane to lose ONLY so you will stfu.
you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.
There was a point when I felt that way...but in time I just re-focused and just said everyone expresses themselves in different ways and some individuals just lean towards being more self-righteous, continually reassurring themseleves of their position and constatnly reminding themselves that what they are preaching is the only logical answer. Its what makes this such an interesting site. :smoke

Incorporate the old school mentality and keep on trucking, hey you only become great by taking on the best win/lose/draw
FYI: The roads usually a lot quicker if you always win though.

I love how shane is or was a has been, and he was washed up.....but these SAME IDIOTS were claiming he was the man to defeat PBF.
ESB is run by popularity and hate. They hated PBF so much Shane was the antidote.
They like Cotto so they don't see the obvious.
Shane defeats Cotto and EARNS his shot at PBF.
Unlike DLH who was HANDED his shot because PBF could make a ton of money.
do you realize how stupid that sounds. dlh wasn't handed shit seeing as how pbf had nothing to offer him. pbf proved that he was willing to lick dlh's balls in order to make his biggest payday.
since when does a challenger give a beltholder an opportunity. especially a challenger who has not been proven to be a strong draw.
and before you call me a dlh nuthugger, i will let you know i can't stand the hypocrite bitch. but he is the one who brings the money.
