Before the 1st Bout started @ the P.P.V. Pinnacle Fite Nite Event on Saturday( 8-18-2007 ), ...as He commentated, "Baby" Joe Mesi( USA/ 35-0-0-28KO ) said that a Bout between Himself and one of the Heavyweights on the Card that night; *undefeated "Prospect" Roman Greenberg( Israel/ 26-0-0-18KO ), would be a smart match-up!
Roman then respectfully told Joe after Roman's TKO9 over Damon Reed, that "it would be an honor" to meet in the Ring, ...in the near future!
WHAT ARE YOUR OPiNiONS ABOUT THiS POSSiBLE MATCH-UP???
My opinion---> :deal
( I WANT THiS TO HAPPEN iN 2008 )

Mesi destroys Greenberg. Greenberg is just waiting to be exposed, and even a fighter like Mesi should be able to do that. Unfortunately, he won't be able to expose Greenberg's shaky chin, but he will be able to expose his lack of skill or natural ability.

Mesi just hasnt looked good at all since he came back, not sure he will ever get anywhere near what he was.
That being said Ive never been impressed by Greenburg at all. He really is quite average and its no suprise he has fell off the radar as a prospect recently. Much is made of his Jewish heritage, but he was born in Russia and he sounds Pom. I think people are trying to make him into the next Jew hope, there isnt anything wrong with that but I dont know those kind of things never sit with me right when the guys are totally of that heritage. Seems a bit exploitive.
I'll lean towards Mesi, but Joe has definitely been better, whether he is capable of getting there again I dont know.

I have to agree. Greenberg looks very limited and the journeymen he's beaten, i.e. Michael Simms, Kendrick Releford, are guys that didn't take it to him at all and let him plod his way to a decision. In fact, if Releford would have let his hands go just a bit more, he wins that fight.
The first guy that pressures Greenberg and has any power at all is going to give him fits. Mesi fits that profile.

I voted draw, because while Mesi CERTAINLY would have blown out the shockingly mediocre Greenberg prior to his layoff, the only KO he's scored was against some tomato can with a glass jaw. Now, if Greenberg's chin is as bad as people say, maybe Mesi could do it, but his skills seem to have deteriorated so much, I have my doubts. Still, if I had to call it one way or another, I'd say Mesi - but with Mesi's current condition, this is a pick 'em fight. Which says alot about how far he's fallen.

If Mesi was black nobody would be paying attention, he was a 'never was' in terms of his true ability to start with.
But a competitive enough white, or even hispanic HW is very marketable in America, as long as they are not Eastern European.

If I had a dollar for every time you type the phrase "glass jaw," I could roll like PBF.

I've seen Greenberg a few times over the years and he has talent but not the right attitude to be truly successful, I pick Mesi by clear UD and a very possible ko.

Indeed. Anyone who thinks the U.S. "great white hope" phenemona is dead is kidding themselves. Indeed, it largely accounts for all the attention Mesi has gotten, despite the fact that as soon as he began to fight decent fighters, he started hitting the canvas.
And it accounts for all the attention he STILL gets even though it OBVIOUS he's a non-factor going nowhere.:yep

TOS would KO Greenberg & look what Mesi did to him! Granted that was Mesi before the long layoff but still, Mesi finds the mark and KO's Roman.

Mesi doesn't lose to Greenberg unless Mesi is shot or Greenberg is a different fighter from when I saw him fight in England.

Your avatar gives away your bias.
I can't remember the journeyman who put him down. One of the Brits will surely remember.

From what I've seen of him, Greenberg looks like one of the most unremarkable prospects around. Not really much power, not particularly fast, pretty tentative, a little on the chubby side, mediocre boxing skill, etc. Mesi, while a very flawed and limited fighter, still has a good few attributes which set him apart from the crowd of averagish fighters that don't go anywhere. If he's still even close to the fighter he was in 2002-2003, I think he should be able to take out Greenberg pretty handily.

I actually want this fight ONLY because Roman could really learn from this one( *WAKE HiS @$$ UP ), ...be it a LOSS or WiN!
I also think that Roman has time to improve, get the conditioning He really needs, ...to eventually( maybe soon ) go for a Title Belt!

I picked Mesi, by decision.
Greenberg isnt a power puncher, he's an accumulation puncher. He also fails to pressure enough and doesnt jump on opponents when he should.
Greenburg should be disappointed with allowing a human punching bag like Reed, to last that long. That was the worst fight on the card.
I dont think Greenburg's a bad fighter, but he has a lot of work to do and the intangibles havent been tested yet.
I do think that Mesi would be a good matchup and test and will be willing to watch.

Yes, ...as if it's unrealistic to think that Roman would go for a Title within His next 3 fights, ...as if Sultan didn't do it when He was 20-0-1-17KO( Roman is now 26-0-0-18KO ...REGARDLESS of Competition Level, or whether or not He would WiN that Title fight)!?

Mesi versus Greenberg...what great marketing and promotional potential.
Two undefeated, white prospects. One is an Italian and one is a Jew (and lived in Israel no less). What's not to like? Its a throwback to the golden days of boxing in the Garden. Too bad Mesi can't fight in NYC though. I will watch it because its great entertainment.

There is no telling how good Mesi is anymore but the old Mesi (TOS) fight would KO Greenburg, there is a reason he has been protected and has not fought anyone yet, oviously because he cant fight

This may be very true.
But, this would be a fight for Joe Mesi to prove/show otherwise.
Time for Mesi to put up or do something else.

It's a good mtch up for both. Neather is a HBO/Showtime boxer. I think Messi has seen better days and Greenberg is still devloping.
I can see the winner fighting a top 15 heaveyweight next but not anything bigtime. I think Greenberg is good enough to beat Messi.

First Mesi takes on Minto and then fights Greenberg?! These are decent match-ups and challenges for Mesi. If he truly wants a title fight by the end of '08 he is finally on the right path. But he could stub his toe in the process. They are no easy matches.
