WBC world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch is making his Steve Bunce Boxing Hour studio debut at 2pm on Setanta Sports News this Thursday. ‘The Cobra’ is the latest big name to join Buncey on the show. Froch, 31, is preparing for the first defence of his world title. The Nottingham-born star squares up to America’s Jermain Taylor on April 25 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket in Connecticut. Buncey said it was an absolute pleasure to welcome the big boy into the studio. He said:
“Carl is now in a great position. He won the title in, arguably, the best British fight of the year and has taken an unprecedented step by agreeing to an even harder and more impressive first defence.”

...disappointing...I expected Froch to talk about Taylor, not past him, looking to get Calzaghe...:huh...in any case, nothing of interest was said, sadly. In fact, the only good thing about the show was the female boxer, who gave a very good account of herself and of female boxing in general. Good luck to her!

And after he beats Taylor it's Abraham...I talked this up for a long time as a back up plan for Abraham (started just before Froch fought Pascal) and still think that this would be a good, even matched fight.
But let's see how Froch is doing vs. Taylor (obviously, AA also has to beat Simon)...

You think? I can't see it, personally. I don't remember you talkint it up either, to be honest...must have missed it.
I think AA will stick around for a little bit longer trying to get hold of Pavlik. If Froch beats Taylor, he'll do an easy defence or two back home before looking to unify, I think. The money for a fight against AA would tempt him though, that's for sure...you may be right after all...Tom.:good

Found the show very annoying today for some reason. Not sure whether it was the pointless emails, Buncey waffling on or Buncey taking an age to say something.
Maybe it was just me ;)
robpalmer135
03-12-2009, 11:39 AM
yeh i was really disapointed that they just talked about Calzaghe. They did the skit with the swear box, and then just ended up talking about him. they should of ignored the emails. Calzaghe has gone. I wanted to hear Carl talking about Taylor, Bute, Kessler in detail, we instead we got a few comments.

One of Abraham's promoters was on the show recently talking about how difficult AA finds it to get down to Middleweight.
If he can't get Pavlik into the ring this year, I'd say it's a certainty he'll move up.
Given that Pavlik has signed to fight Mora and can probably make more money fighting Duddy after that, I think it's more likely we'll see Froch-Abraham happen.
I'd actually love to see this fight if Froch pulls the upset against Taylor - I think their styles match up really well and we'd be guaranteed a FOTY contender.

Accused Buncey of being a fence sitter and put him on the spot and asked for a prediction if he (Froch) fought Calzaghe. Bunce was squirming and stuttering as Froch gave him the evil eye.
BACK ON BUNCE BY POPULAR DEMAND.
Not enough questions to Carl Froch ...too much Joe Calzaghe. Ok You spoke ... we listened as we always do.
I went for a coffee with Carl after the show (herbal tea in Carl's case) and he agreed to come back on the show before flying out to his American training camp in 2 or 3 weeks. I'm sure Steve will let you know in advance.
We'll talk Taylor and the future. No more Calzaghe talk. If you want to put questions in get them into the usual address, [Only registered and activated users can see links] or text us 60300 start your message with the word views.
Can't say fairer than that? .....
I wish Froch would shut up about Joe Calzaghe, I enjoy his style and skills but it's starting to put me off.

Let it go and just hope you achieve half he has.

WTF lads,,,
Why drag up Calzaghe's name for Froch? dont you get it that Carl is bored of talking about Joe as much as the public are about listening to it ??
There was an excellent chance to talk to Froch about Taylor, Kessler etc and low and behold you bang on about Calzaghe.
You need to pop that ego lads and get back to representing what the fans of the sport want to hear.
We dont want to ask froch about Calz as he is retired !!
A really wasted opportunity - and if the man has driven for 3 hours to appear, why not give him more than a 10 minute slot.
Crap effort lads this week.

I missed the chance to move to Bute - my mistake.

Laura Saperstein is her name.
Gomez and Limond gave insight.
Elcock and Macklin were excellent.

Buncey be fair, when it comes to two british fighters you do sit on the fence BIG TIME. You did it with Haye vs Enzo (althought its quote obvious now you fancied Haye and im sure if you were 50-50 after the ring walks you were 99% Haye)
The answer you gave to froch was, 2 years ago, Calzaghe wins, in 2 years, Froch wins. Carl was asking what if we fight in May/June???
I understand why you cant pick domestic fights but don't say you dont sit on the fence because mate, you do LOL.
If you do not sit on the fence give us prediction for these fights if they took place this summer.
Haye vs Rogan?
Macceranelli vs Hide
Cleverly vs Woods
Froch vs Calzaghe
Dodson vs Paul Smith
Barker vs Macklin/Elcock winner
Small vs Rhodes
Pryce vs Hall
Jennings vs Brook
Witter vs Hatton
Khan vs Murray/Thaxton
Mitchel vs Cook
Appleby vs Lindsay
Munroe vs Dunne
Why does he have to pick a winner? what does it matter.
It might actually put some future guests off if Bunce is recorded saying X would kick Z's arse.
Why did Froch need to know, it's a bit sad really"So who do you think would win in a fight between me and him over there m8?"
If he believes in himself he can do the job fine, why does he need Bunce beating the drum for him.....

I said that if Joe stays out a year then he would lose - I never said two years.
As for the fence... Enzo and Haye but other than that I can't remember.
I said all the time that I would pick Enzo and Haye on the night. I did - the moment they appeared I picked Haye.
I picked Tyson over Lewis and then saw Tyson in the gym and switched.
I picked Hamed over Barrera and then saw Hamed in the gym and switched.
I like to see a fighter in the gym before selecting.
If Joe announces a comeback in the summer and looks great then I would reserve the right to change my opinion.

Buncey,
Lead from the front mate - it seems EVERY journalist / interviewer asks Froch about Calzaghe.
Froch knows a lot of other stuff you could have a field day with.
Ask him how Darren Barker knew that Kessler was going to fight Calzaghe with a broken hand, after Barker sparred him.
Or that Eric Teymour, Tatevosyan, Brian Magee have all fought / sparred Kessler and Froch and they all picked Froch if it was to come off.
Ive read it on boxrec and i want to hear him confirm it all.

I'm a little suprised at the haters on here (suppose it's Britain though). Yes, i thought this weeks show was a little dissapointing re going on about Joe C, Froch ddn't seem too happy but he is supposed to be very intelligient, he could have imposed his will to talk abut Taylor e.t.c. Buncey isn't perfect (who is?) but i like to hear the man talk a damn sight more than most other boxing pundits. Is he supposed to say Khan has the chin of a ten year old and never get to talk to anyone related ever again?(his chin would belong to a 15year old at least, just making my point). Actually got £20 on an AK victory.
Support the show and give constructive criticism fellas, best we gonna get and I for one like it as it is, wish it was 2 hours though.

What makes you think Bunce cares about what we think about him or his show? If you think he does, you are naive. Nothing to do with hating. Plenty of people have given plenty of constructive criticism, as well as enthousiastic praise. It made no difference...none. It was completely ignored. Why should it make any difference? "If you don't like the show, don't watch it", is the mantra. There's plenty of punters who think Bunce is the best thing since sliced bread, and Bunce panders to them very successfully, it seems. I don't usually watch the show, but I thought on this occasion I'd get to hear a couple of things from Froch about Taylor...but I was wrong. There would have been a lot to talk about...Oh, well...
BTW..."the haters" on here are no worse than the toadys. Can you imagine any other professional boxing commentator spending 10 minutes with Froch and not asking him something about Taylor and their upcoming fight and his views on the top players in the division and his plans were he to beat Taylor? I can't. I guess that makes me a hater, eh?

He's the best we have?:huh At what, exactly? He's the best we have at pandering to the lowest common denominator "casual fan" type, who's much more interesting in all the latest celebrity gossip, scandal and banter than in boxing, I'll give you that. ...anyway, enough about that. I promise not be drawn into this subject from now on.:good

Young lady be calm.
Froch had to answer questions about Calzaghe - think about what he said when Calzaghe retired - It was harsh. That was the only line - nothing to do with 'casual fans' or celebrity gossip. It was the only question a proper journalist would ask -
Don't try this holy attitude and purist shite.
Do you honestly think that the first question should be about Taylor's jab or Bute's head? Get real -
Can you imagine..."Now Carl, I want to ask you about a Romanian who lives in Canada because I know that you have been losing sleep..."
I went with..."Carl, do you regret any of the things that you said about Joe Calzaghe when he retired?"
Which question should open a boxing show on British TV?
Adios.

I think Froch started off OK, but made a bit of a tit of himself the longer the interview went on IMO.
The questions were fine to ask, but the way he responded to them didn't help.
If he had simply said that he had had time to consider his remarks and whilst they do reflect his true opinion, he could concede that he was a little assertive.....
When Witter used to be asked those questions he answered in a mixture of respect and frustration - actually acknowledging that Hatton was good and had an excellent career, as well as the fact that he wasn't an opponent that made common sense. Froch has basically accused Calzaghe of being a fraud and a scared little bitch at times. But in the grand scheme of things, who the fuck was Froch until he had beaten Pascal? I like the guy, but feel he is either being misguided or has a serious ego issue.

but, i'm not really complaining.

When Bunce asked that question I honestly thought Froch would take the opportunity to say it was nothing personal or serious with Calzaghe but he was just trying to scare up a big fight for himself. I like the guy a lot better since he stopped banging on about Calzaghe att the time but that interview disapointed me a little.

It's the first time I've ever watched this show and I couldn't help wondering why it's called 'Steve Bunce's boxing hour'. He doesn't chair the show, he occupies the 'resident pundit' position. While in my opinion (to maintain a balance in any sports magazine show), it's essential to have a journalist's point of view, I'm sure it would be beneficial to include a rota of ex-pros. Alternatively they could utilise the opinions of the guests, maybe giving them a section of the show each or buy an extra chair or two and actually give the chairman a job to do. Obviously this wouldn't work if all the guests were like Carl, as he's such a quiet man and reluctant to give opinion.

Bunce allowed him to "redeem" himself with some of the not so good comments that came from Froch at the time of JC retirement.
I didn't like Bunce mentioning witter.... he was just promoting the stupid comments from JC when he said Froch was like Witter is with Hatton....
Froch came across like a dick when he questioned Bunce about who would win between him and Calzaghe..... No Class at all..... Britians top boxing show but Froch just looked egotistical.... at the age of 31 and with a career that needs to get a move on....he didn't make things easier for himself.....although maybe his more egotistical/agressive/disrespectful type of attitude might get him more noticed.... Skill wise Froch has very little defence but can take a good punch.....but even Margorito as we recently saw got KTFO....take enough punches and you WILL go down....granite chinned or not..... That's why Froch will fail agianst elite fighters unless he improves his defence.....Froch v Pascal was one of the best fights of last year.....but both were just below the highest level IMO....Forch has slow hand speed and is easy to hit..... Kessler would beat him easily..... Taylor has to Jab his way through Froch and may even hurt him (remember he is one of the few to ever hurt Pavlik).... If Taylor get's caught then we will see If Froch has the power to finish the job..... Taylor is straight forward and backwards fighter....does not move laterally and backup against the ropes.... Froch can beat him but it should be a good fight.
PS: just read the comment from the guy who just watched the show for the first time.....and I agree..... I think Bunce is getting too big for his boots. I like his show, I like the news he brings....I like the exclusives...i look forward to the famous clips funny/informative on appearing on youtube......But Bunce is going a bit on an ego trip...... coming out with the "bunceys" awards (like the oscars).....c'mon this show should be about BOXING not about bigging up the big man Bunce....he's good journo and good for Brit boxing.....but Setanta are going in the wrong direction and making it about just one man (a journalist) is wrong....... add to that the fact that anything could happen to Bunce and the whole show would fail......you need more for boxing that just bunce....if bunce were to make a hickup ala Ron Atkinson.....he would have to be sacked and then all this bullshit about "bunceys" would be over.....let's keep the show real....lets keep it more about boxing and getting those exclusive interviews....that's what most people want.

Loosen up guys. Bunce is the most well known and respected British boxing journalist and that's why the show is named after him. There's no ego, the awards were some light hearted fun. People really need to stop taking things so seriously.
As for the Froch affair I thought he came across ok but you can tell that even he is getting a little bored of the whole Calzaghe saga now. I think this is an area where the show could have been structured a bit better. The talk for the most part should have been about the Taylor fight, how he is perparing and what tactics he plans on using etc. Then at the end a question as for what his plans for the future are post Taylor and leave him bring up the Calzaghe subject himself if he so desires.

Next show should be fun, tons of news to talk about.
Try to get ****** and Enzo Calzaghe on the same show, they're getting along famously at the moment ;)
