both were huge punchers and scored lots of ko's savchenko had ko'd everyone up to the final here in the games....
if they turned pro and had pro coaches....would one or both be a treat to hagler and leonard etc?

Thanks for the video. Very good bout. Wish I could see the others between them. The Cuban guy is a bit better on the inside based on that video, which is how he cought Savchenko. This is what amateur boxing should be like again - no headguard, more on power.
Who is the guy in your avatar Dabox?

yes i wish i could the other fights too because it seemed to have been a good rivalry...
those days amateur was much, much better i agree, no annoying point system...
which is me 10 times worse then the headgear thing...
the fighter in my avatar is Ace Hudkins...he was a top middle weight contender in the late 20's who fought mickey walker for the title....
and it's a cool picture....great picture of popenchenko by the way

Popenchenko was a great man. The only clips of him on the internet that I have found is the 'Kak Uhodili Kumiry' documentary series, which has clips of some of his fights. There is a link to it on the Russian amateur boxing federation website: rusboxing.ru. I have some tapes of him I left a long time ago at my parents house. Next time I go back there (which wont be very soon unfortunatly), I'll see if I can get them on the internet.
