Briggs will win.... But Kirby is very tough and has alot of heart. Nathan Briggs will have to fight the fight off his life to stop Kirby.

maco_187
03-13-2009, 09:46 AM
preacher shouldnt pursue a career in boxing looked shocking in compared hartman, his skills dont match that of a boxer but still a good effort, kirby definately is one tough guy, hes a big puncher to, which didnt help nathans cause, and the way nathan fought i dont think anyone could help him tonight, he just didnt listen and paid the ultimate price his chin will always be his downfall and in simple terms they were saying to take him to the states as were finding out with some just not good enough..
one in a million

Yep Kirby is a solid man to get through, best we have ring masters like this before we head overseas. But then again if they are chasing money to support their family and future, who are we to judge their choice of direction?

Its a shame that Nastyboy tryed to outmuscle Kirby becuase when he showed a few glimpses of outboxing him, he looked like he could have taken the win convincingly.
Standing on the inside and trading was simply the wrong tactic.

Shaick was the most impressive on the card.
Looked sensational, showed a great kit of punches upstairs & downstairs.
Throws a lovely double right rip right uppercut combo...prob looked for it a little too much, but that will come with more experience.
Someone that i will defintely follow closely in the coming yrs.
Coppick showed mega heart, but got pounded into the ground in round 3.:good

Sam Leone and Omar Shaick were standouts - Sammy started the night and his 100's of supporters made for an incredible atmosphere.
Omar was all class in the Amateurs and will be no different in the Pro's.

Thanks TCW, Mick and Nath made me earn it in the main, didn't really enjoy that one too much - too busy running round trying to catch Mick's sly stuff on the blindside! I must give him credit though, he showed a shitload of nouse for one with only a handfull of fights and he sucked Nath into fighting his fight, although I don't think Nath exactly needed an engraved invitation for that one!

Briggs will look back at this fight & kick himself for fighting Kirby's fight. Trying to out muscle Kirby on the inside is playing to his strengths. The man is one tough bugger with a chin of iron. Briggs hit him with some awesome shots but to no effect. At the end of the day Briggs' chin failed him again but he has improved out of site since Paul's been training him. If he boxed he would of won I believe.

I wouldnt read too much into him goiving the guys a spray - I think he was frustrated the everyone wrote him off.
I suggest he was using the commentary team to relay his thoughts not so much as that it was something they had said.
He is passionate and just won a MASSIVE title. Let him off this time I reckon...

Hi guys
I just watched the replay and he did not brush Mick, he shook hands and had a chat before the belt presentation, and then after getting the belt he took off after Nath to pass a few final words and he was pretty excited about winning!
The Little Big Man, Chris McCullen contacted me today and said that Mick had said to the commentary panel "You all wrote me off, now you're not writing me off are you?" He also apparently gave a shout out to the ESB forum

Phil Austin who challenges 4 the OPBF, is their a criteria u need 2 go through?
Phil Austin
03-14-2009, 04:37 PM
The OPBF is the regional body of the WBC and you must be rated by the OPBF to challenge for the title, they normally rate national champs of each country in the region and make up the rest from the top flight from each nation

I reckon its amazing that Kirby has such an aptitude for the ring after having had only 6 amateur fights and the same amount of pro.
Now that he has beaten Briggsy I hope he goes on a does well, since he had such a late start he could probably have another 4-5 good years in the ring, look forward to seeing him progress

Was a hell of a slugfest ..but Nathan Briggs has to be the most frustrating fighter to watch ...has so much potential and showed he would of outboxed kirby if he listened to Hurricane and just stepped back ..
But Kirby has some granite hands & chin and if you stand in front of him like Nate did well kirby is going to knock you out!!
I would like to see a rematch for sure ...
P.S - Kirby was calling out "Sol" post fight ..as in Haumono

Styles makes fights always, never forget Leati: Alex beat Nath and got beat by Col, Nath beat Col and on and on it goes. Don't put too much stock into the other, Nath just fought the wrong fight period and had already beaten Mick before. This is more indicative of the heavyweight division we have in this country. Although more intriguing for years and it certainly beats watching Joe clean out Fiji's heavyweights, we do not have much that can compete on the world stage TBH

ask as many questions as you like mate! :thumbsup
It's different to other divisions as though the work rate from both fighters is lower you have your hands full with other things. They are more likely to clinch and you sometimes spend more time pulling em apart. Some are really easy to ref others are more of a handful.. I guess like any other weight class but they can be hard work. Nathan Briggs is a delight to ref as is Mark DeMori - others can instill a fear of impending dread!
Quite often you really have to stamp down on things otherwise it can get quite out of control. Many got down on Brad Vocale for the way he handled Hoppa V Mirovic, I say that fight was always going to be a nightmare and if he had not asserted his authoritah it would have been a damned sight WORSE!

Actually thinking back I have had a few along the way, I'll have a think about that! It's each to his own regarding interaction - it comes down to a refs personality I guess; I'm not a robot and neither are the fighters and a bit of interaction can be a good thing - over familiarity is a different issue! :bart we are all human beings in there and deserve to be treated as such IMO

Ok thanks Phil.
Cos i remember reading that a MMA Referee, said that he doesnt interact with the fighters (i cant remember if he said they are not allowed to), so one of his decisions in one of the fights had nothing to do with the fighter personally or the company since he doesnt interact with them.
So i was curious to see if the commissions allowed you to interact with them. Like being allowed to talk with them after the fights or whatnot.
But yeah not overly familiar.
Thanks though Phil and good work:good

Briggs has great boxing skills, but his chin is shocking. Kirby can punch and can take a punch so he was always going to be in with a chance.
