Just watching his first fight with David McAuley...He was quite the athletic specimen. His movement was beautiful, very smooth then he could launch inside like he was almost spring loaded.
Only ever seen his 2nd (I think) fight with Zapata (one of which I just recently revisted through a highlights package of Zapata), which I reckon would fair dinkum hold some kind of record for missed punches as both were so good defensively.
How does he rate in an alltime Colombian list? :think
In the top tier with Cervantes, Valdez and Lora or not quite?

He'd be there or thereabouts, though his flaws were a bit more glaring than those guys i think.
Poor chin and not much strength or general durability.Excellent boxer-puncher though, a sort of mixture between marcel, Dejesus and Kalule.
the guy he fought in his last fight, Rojas.Brutally fouled him into retirement in a despicable performance.
The headbutt McCauley landed to get back into the first Bassa fight and score the first knockdown is just about the most viscious i've ever seen.Don't know if he meant it, but i doubt that fight becomes a life and death war without it.

The fight was a lot more one sided and less fun, but Bassa was a lot better in the McAuley rematch.
That performance with hindsight is even more impressive because of what Dave Boy went on to achieve post BassaII.

WhataRock: You asked:
How does he rate in an alltime Colombian list? :think Fidell Bassa is counted among Colombia´s best boxers ever. His style, stamina and courage made of him one of the greatest. Whenever you talk about colombian boxing, Bassa is a must.
In the top tier with Cervantes, Valdez and Lora or not quite? YES! Bassa is in the top 5. Antonio Cervantes, Miguel Lora, Robinson Pitalua, Bernardo Caraballo, Valdez and Fidel Bassa.
I will be interviewing Fidel Bassa next Monday, May 18, so expect my article sometime next week. Bassa, the son of a poor fisherman, is outside the ring, Colombia´s smartest boxer. The few bucks he made boxing helped him to open his own business. He´s got a nice apartment in Bogota and lives with his wife. He made it!!!
