August 17th, 2007 - Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon, minimum WBO champion, made 111.5 pounds in the last pre weighin for his August 25th Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum showdown against mexican WBO mini flyweight Hugo Cazares, who weigh 121 pounds, eight above the 113.4 limit.
Cazares (25-3-1, 19 KO's) arrived to Puerto Rico this early morning and apologized to the fans and press for his high weight.
"I apologize because of my weight. I have problems with my flights, delays, and arrived this early morning to Puerto Rico, and cannot train recently", said Cazares.

Cazares is going to have to drop 13 pounds in a week... for someone who is already 5'6", 121...
I say he can't make weight.

I've always thought Calderon would be in trouble when he fought taller guys above 105 lbs - that lack of pop is going to make it hard to discourage someone who has other physical advantages from getting their punches off. I'd fight him tomorrow.:good We'll see, but I think Cazares is going to be a bit too big.

Calderon has unfortunately slipped a little in terms of speed, because of that i tended to go for Cazares but with the size difference. Don't even know if the fight should be made or will be made.
WTF someone call the police, someone is trying to set little Ivan up and I will have no part in it.
Seriously, like Doublesuited said, no way in hell that guy makes weight.
If he does, I think Ivan will put on a clinic. :yep

Here in PR everyone is worried about the fight, really difficult for Ivan.Cazares is really good, is fast and as you can see is a lot bigger,he is going to make the weight and he is gonna come well prepared he has great stamina,I hope our little man can make it he's a great guy.

Fuck me, that is obscene.
Calderon would break into the P4P charts with this win.
Calderon is fucking up like all the small guys. They need to unify and dominate so when they step up people know who the real man is.

Cazares will be so weight drained by fight night that the size difference will not matter. I like Calderon to get himself a rare stoppage victory. :yep

I hope Calderon can overcome the big size difference.
So do I. However, after seeing the pic, thei is a big size difference between the two, & I'm some-what fearful for Calderon.
Calderon is one of the best boxers in the sport. If he was in a heavier weight class, maybe he would be known on a bigger scale. He has superb skills, & fighting Cazares, a man who is significently larger than him, will be a true test for Ivan. Props for taking such a bout.
I hope Calderon overcomes the size issue, because it would be a triumph for skills, abilities, rather than the larger, advantaged guy winning.
Lastly, by the picture, I can't see how Cazares will make 108lbs come friday. He just looks too damn big & looks to be nearly dry in the photo.
If he does somehow make weight on friday at the weigh-in, I for one would like to know his fight-time weight!

I think Cazares is going to have serious weight drain problems

Well, your Momma ain't naming you Hugo for nothing!:yep
I like little Ivan to win by a body shot to the liver of Cazares ala Penalosa v. Gonzalez, if only he's not feather-fisted....:-(

:rofl
Iron boys + is that he's in good shape.
His - is that he is very small.
Hugo's plus is that he is way bigger and taller
his - is that he could/will be weight drained
Can go either way imo. If hugo just sticks to straight left and right hands with speed and accuracy it will be very hard for iron boy to come close with THAT kind of a difference.
well that's how I see it

This fight will definitely be interesting...no way can Cazares be 100% on fight night after cutting that much weight that quickly. Calderon will need all the edge he can get.

Calderon was always a small strawweight to begin with, if there is such a thing. Honestly though, he's never been rocked, and having seen video of him sparring against good lightweights and welterweights, I only give Cazares a puncher's chance. With the size difference, he might be able to rock Calderon, but Calderon is in my top 5 defensive fighters in the business, and best I can tell he has an iron chin.

This is a very tough fight but Calderon had fought Mosley and De la Hoya is sparring here and did pretty well to, DE la Hoya couldn't touch him. They sp[arred when Mosley was in Puerto Rico training with De la Hoya for Floyd fight, so he maybe win the fight.

Not really, there aren't the level of opponents at that class, and he had a lot of trouble his last fight with a pressure fighter who could bang, whereas Whitaker thrived against these types.
Calderon is not getting youger, i would say that a prime Calderon would rivalise in skills with Whitaker. Although Pernell had better power.

Calderon is so small that it's tough for a guy like Delahoya to have the usual angles to hit him.
Only guy who could hit him is Golota, Calderon's head is at the height where Golota's opponnet's balls are.

I was disappointed to see that this fight was PPV. I like watching the little guys fight; I made sure to tune into the Grigsby/Solis fight that was on Versus a while back. I have heard great things about Calderon and would like to see him in action, but not enough to pay forty bucks for that card.

This is also Calderon's first chance at the Ring title, except it's at 108. If he wins this fight he definitely deserves some P4P mentioning...at least Top 12.

Win, lose, or draw?? Calderon has tremendous heart, will, and balls for taking and making this fight.:good :good :good The size difference is so significant, it almost makes me want to root for David vs Goliath.
Cazares should win this, if he cant beat the much smaller man, he's not gonna feel welll afterwards.
