I have always wondered about this. I have fighters that I dislike for one reason or another but I have never hated any of them. Back in the day, I never really cared for Marvin Hagler but that was just because he beat Thomas Hearns. It wasn't personal, I just didn't like him for beating Hearns. I never like Jimmy Young's style of fighting, ummmmmm well running but I never hated him.

I cheered like hell when Shavers KOed Norton. Never liked Norton but I didn't hate him to the point of wishing him injured or dead. Although I did laugh when Shavers almost killed him. :yep

Why do some do this? I mean there are some people here that hate Chris Byrd or Jermain Taylor. Mayweather haters are rabid. Why?

It can't be for the same reason. Mayweather is a mouthy jerk and Byrd is a straight up, soft talking guy. Why do you hate people like Alan Green?

Just wondering.

. . . . because of insecurities. It's either the other fighter is much more known and hyped than their or the other fighter is a threat to their idols.

. . . . these are not the true fans of the sports but merely a nuthugger of some particular fighters.:yep

It almost seems as if some people only watch boxing PURELY just to hate a particular fighter... The amount of effort that goes into bringing them down :-(

Some people take it a step further and attack the fighters wife and family. I think that is out of bounds. Or at least should be.

Some probably think I hate Tyson but I don't. I just hate the negative example he has been to children who look up to him and I hate the things he did to bring a bad light to the sport of boxing.

I have serious contempt for Floyd because while he insults the sport and it's history by claiming to be THE GOAT, he has cherry picked and avoided fighters at every weight class. On top of that? He's a loud mouthed jerk, who portray's his background and persona much differently than it really is.

The path he walks? Is EVERYTHING THAT'S WRONG ABOUT BOXING THESE DAYS!!! It's a shame too because he undoubtedly has great skill and perhaps could deserve mention with true ATG's, if he stopped the bullshit and took the tests that could prove him a real and great Champion.

I hope it's not too late. I would rather congratulate and appreciate him as a fighter, than criticize a P4P myth based on hype and specualtion, INSTEAD OF RESULTS.

Because the idiots think that they are fighters themselves. "The Type Writer Warriors* If I dislike a fighter it would only be because of their personality but never because of their talent or what they do in the ring..Tell me 1 shit talker in here would would go 3 minutes with a professional boxer...please its sad..boxing is 100% blood and guts it doesn't matter HOW you fight its nasty no matter what..You get brain damage in this sport..there ain't nothing pretty about it...He who hits and runs away lives to fight another day - willy pep..he moved round the ring and ran a whole lot....241 fights...the man had more balls than anyone in this forum put together!!!!

He definitely had issues and you might cringe if your daughter was dating him, but on the positive side, for half a decade , he WAS boxing to the casual fan and was the most exciting fighter to any fan. Even well past his prime, he still generated much excitement.

We are all free to express here in ESB what our thoughts about these fighters, but the only problem is because there's a lot of nuts and crazy fans here than lover of this sport.

I never understood how people can disrespect some fighters, calling them names and so on. Everybody who steps in the ring deserves tons of respect if you like him or not.

Well said. The amount of name-calling, vile comments, and malice ("I hope ______ gets KTFO'd and has brain damage") towards boxers on this and other boards amazes me.

I've never really agreed with that line of thought. It's up to each individual to act the way they want to act.

I don't think it's a contract that comes with being famous:

what's your criteria for being a good role model? Is it not acceptable just to be yourself?

I think just about everyone is a role model to someone, whether you are aware of it or not. I know my young nephews watch me and take note of the things I do and say, so I try to watch my behavior and language around them. I don't think someone should look at a person as a role model just because they are famous, but lots of people do. It's not right, but it happens.

Its down to the Internet allowing idiots anominty when they post. They don't feel the need to censor themselves as there is no comebacks anyway.

I wouldnt describe it has hating, but more for the very same reasons you mentioned above. Just some people are more ignorant than others when describing their dislikes about a fighter, and the actual meaning of hate.

Hate is a good healthy natural emotion.

People will always hate things.

Why not boxers?

Its knowing the genuine meaning of the word, do you really hate a boxer or just find him a bit annoying...?

If people in everyday life can say that they hate inanimate objects (for example), it makes sense for people to hate people.

On the other hand, people are compelled to watch the fighters they hate. It allows the hate to grow.

Not quite.

Here are 2 examples.

1) A person must watch his favourite fighter in a match against his most hated fighter.

2) He is compelled by his bloodlust in any event.

You have to remember that people are perverted.

The only reason I've ever shown hater-tendancies toward certain fighters is because of their fans. Their fans will say something out of line and I will retaliate with nothing serious and they keep coming back with more and more ridiculous non-sense until I get angry.

Very understandable.

Just wondering.Delusional fans of fighters will make you hate them. It's just like that with teams too. I hate teams that have a lot of bandwagon fans. I don't literally hate every fighter or player on the team personally. I just want to see them lose.

I don't hate any fighter other than Cory Stinks.

The guy just gets to me.

I think the Nelly entrance sealed the deal
