Anyone else remember this fight??? Scotlands Jacobs defending his commonwealth welterweight title against St Pancras's Mikey Hughes,Jacobs boxed like a dream using a great southpaw straight right and slick foot work and a stiff hurtfull southpaw leftcross in and out bang bang in and out bang bang bang mixing his shots up nicely to both head and body, beautiful.Round after round Hughes soaked up the shots his face starting to mark up after four or five rounds, eyes swelling,a mouse under each eye.Jacobs was cruising along winning at a canter Mickey hitting nothing but air for long periods then for on second Gary stood still at the wrong time, just for one second and Hughes detonated a fearsome nuclear powered left hook flush on the button and Gary was orbiting planet earth before he hit the canvas, absolutely sparko, out cold.I honestly thought he was dead.
Its one of he most brutal and chilling KO's Ive ever seen.Anyone else remember it???

Hughes could punch alright.Yeah it was on a Saturday afternoon.Yep he was a genuine one punch and count to a hundred never mind a ten count puncher, granite chin too.Shame he was such a slow starter,I don't think he was ever dropped and his losses were due to cuts.

147 was a great domestic division round that time, a real mix of styles and characters. Laing, Kelly, Jacobs, Hughes, Collins, Brown (anyone remember the Kelly-Brown tear up, also on a Saturday afternoon IIRC?).

Hughes and Jacobs were both soundly beaten by Canada's Donovan Boucher during the same time frame. Was an exciting time in the Commonwealth welter division then.:good
