View Full Version : If the ref waived off the fight against Marquez how much higher is Pacquiao's stock?

What if after the 3rd Knockdown the ref called it off and the record books listed TKO 1 victory for Manny.
Would JMM be undermined or would Pacquiao's stock go higher?

Pac would be #1 P4P after the 2nd Morales fight.
Jmm would still be fighting in the undercards against 3Ks of thailand.
Nobody will ask for Pac JMM rematch.
Pac haters will have nowhere to turn to. They'll be content of making Threads like Pac vs SRL, tyson, SRR, Hagler. Hearns.

Much higher...a 1st round KO of Juan Manuel Marquez would be very serious.

I think that the win would have very little bearing had it been waived off there. JMM was always the lesser known of the 3 (mab, em, jmm). This was really his first really big fight. If he was blown out that easily, he would have vanished into nothing and people would say that pac simply exposed an overhyped guy that rightfully fought in the shadows of barrera and morales.

It wouldn't, JMM would be no higher like Solis or Larios in Packman book.
People instead talking about Marquez heart, technique and determination would be talking about his weak chin.
Surprisingly for PAC it was better than Marquez was not KOed in one round.
Now PAC have the case he knock down 3x man who is at top 10 p4p list.

very right on :good
It wouldnt have boosted Pacquiao's career as it seems, and Marquez's career goes down the drain.

If the ref waive off the fight after the 3rd knockdown, Pac will become a world champion(don't which alphabet title, besides the Ring belt).
If he is a title holder, then Pac chances of fighting EM at 130 probably will not happen. Pac will stay at 126. Maybe after 1 or 2 defense, move up to 130 and rematch MAB. If Pac wins, he might be facing Valero in Philippines.
Morales, instead of fighting Pac, would probably face a top 10 jr. lighweight. Then move up to 135 and chances are, it will probalby be against a top 10 or a world champion, instead of the reality, fighting Raheem. If EM face a top 10 jr. lighweight, the situation of his fight against Raheem, were Raheem run, will not happen. EM will have a chance of winning that fight and face a 135 title holder. Since both Castillo and Corralles are paired up to fight each other, he might face Juan Diaz. And this probably will be the fight were we will see that EM is past his prime shot fighter.

if the fight was waived off after the 1st round....
then we would have never heard of the "i had bad socks" excuse. haha
but seriously, pac will not have turned into the total monster he is now if that fight was stopped. if he won it in 1. he would have been content with being 1-dimensional and not have improved his right hand.
i think that draw was better for manny in the long run

Would JMM be undermined or would Pacquiao's stock go higher?
Easy question to answer.
The Philippines would have declared it as Manny Pacquaio Day, and a special holiday at that one, since he would have been an official champ at 126 in only his 3rd fight there, and that happened just right after he beat MAB!
The boxing purists, who had JMM in their top 5 P4P at that time, would have given Pac more credit. The word "one dimensional" would not have popped-out, and the word "sensational" would have been eventually abused in terms of using it to describe Pac at that time. TKing a legit fundamentally sound fighter who has the rep of being avoided in the past IN 1 ROUND after blasting a living legend seems. What can you saya about it? SOunds like Prince Hamed in being sensational, right?
Finally, and in other words, his P4P ranking would have immediately gone to no.3, at the minimum. The effect would have been big. Period. No doubt about it. I am not overrrating JMM but that 1st TKO would have been a big deal.:deal

What if is just that.....What if....
Thankfully there was a ref in there that knew to do his job.
There was no three knockdown rule, and each time Marquez arose from a knockdown, his legs were steady.
Marguez was'nt really hurt in any of the kd's.....as Marquez himself said, " I had a hell of a time initially, guaging how far Pac's left would travel.....Pac takes a real long step each time he comes foward with his left, and I did'nt initially guage that correctly.
The fact is that Marquez was up and ready to resume each time, and there was really no reason to stop it.

I figured that last one might get you. If you're reason that Pac beats Duran at 130 is simeplty because Duran never fought there, then say that. Don't try to make bullshit comments on who Duran beat at 130. Either way, Manny Pac has a LONG way to reach Duran's level of greatness when YOU or any othe PAc fan here agrees with that. That said...
Bring on JMM vs. Pac II. I don't think either guy has slipped since their fight. What we know is JMM CAN adjust to Pac's power and box him effectively.
What we haven't seen is if can Pac KEEP doing what he did in the first round for the rest of the fight. I haven't seen Pac face as good a pure boxer as JMM since, so I can't judge if he'd be able to adjust in a rematch. For all you know, it might be a continuation of part 1, but like rounds 2-12.

pac is nowhere in durans achievement. pac is the ant here and duran is the elephant. even I have said many many times that above 130 duran will smoke pac.. BUT WAIT. if we will consider 130 and below, i am giving pac the benefit of the doubt. why? pac is at his 90 % peak right now and duran during those days was semi green. yes duran was koing almost everyone but the quality of names are insignificant. although pac didnt prove much at 130, he's been koing pound per pound fighters 130 and below plus hes one of the top of pound per pound. on the other hand, durans achievement at 130 and below is nothing to brag about :-(
we can make an argument that pac can create a lot of noise at 130 but going up is plain stupidity. pac will max out and duran will smoke him. in summary, a semi green duran would have a little chance at prime pac at 130 :deal
