He is at the top for long long long long time,
and its doubtfull he will be exposed like Jones (chin) or Toney (fat).

:huh How did Toney get exposed as being fat? I think his gained girth was pretty obvious as it gradually developed.

He was dominant at one weight division for a long time. It's something you don't tend to get enough credit for these days IMHO.

Great? :think I don't know if we can call him great at this point . . . I'd rather call him exceptional.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Primarily because of what he has accomplished.

. . . . his fighting skills and ring smartness.
. . . . his discipline.

Not only did he win and dominate in the ring - but he did it his way outside of the ring. He got to where he's at mainly on his own - while everyone else used big name promoters and networks.

B-Hop is a beast - one of a kind - a slick talker that speaks his mind. That man deserves all the credit he's starting to get.

There's probably a bunch of other reasons he's Great - but these are some of the reasons that he stands out from the rest of the fighters.

Even though his style can be ugly (and dirty at times) he wins the big ones.

I thought he was great already before Trinidad. For him to accomplish what he did after the age of 35 is just amazing.

Clinching, grabbing and headbutting, all what boxing America loves

The one quality above all others is work ethic. It's not easy to wake up at 5 AM for roadwork when you're sleeping on silk sheets, but Hopkins has put in the hours to stay elite, and put in the extra work to do it when most fighters would've been retired years ago.

Calzaghe still beats him though :hey.

Watch him against Trinidad, that was a masterclass and vintage Hopkins.

Thought maybe you just had a thing against Jones in the other thread, but now I just know your a fuckin' idiot

Whether you like him or not, Hopkins is a GREAT fighter. And if it's only the American press that can recognise this, I feel sorry for other nations being so uninformed about this great sport.

I don't like Hopkins..mainly because of his big mouth, his classlessness and his blind fans. But....Hopkins is a good fighter. I can't call him great because I know he would NOT have been this successful if he fought in the Hagler era.

What makes him a good fighter is all the things already mentioned.

What make him NOT a great fighter is:

1. He fought in a weak MW division.

2. He was not undisputed champ until he beat Trinidad.

3. He lost against a green Jermain Taylor...imagine a "great" losing to a fighter of Taylor's calibre - TWICE.

4. He failed to seek greater challenges in higher weight divisions - even though he was a natural LHW.

5. He punked out of fights he should have made (Jones II and Toney).out of either fear or greed.

I know these points are what the nuthuggers don't want to hear but somebody has to speak the truth.

Feel free to point out the "untruth"...if you see one.
