View Full Version : Froch v Taylor - The Brits View

I know there have been more than a few threads about this already but I'm particularly interested in what the British fight fans think the outome of this contest is gonna be.
It's clear from the GF that most American fans genuinely think that this is gonna be a very easy night for Taylor.
My personal view is that I'm 80% certain of a Froch victory. The only way I can see him losing is because of a cut or some other bizarre circumstance. Taylor may well be the more skilled fighter but for me the outcome of this fight will be determined by desire.
It's clear that Froch is eager to make name for himself and is determined to get the victory so that he can get to the superfights and more importantly the super bucks. On the flip side, Taylor, to me, gives the impression of a guy who wishes that he could make this kind of money doing something else and is primarily concerned with boosting his retirment fund.
Taylor is still a tough old cookie having said that so I'm gonna go for Froch UD with a few hairy moments along the way. What do you guys reckon?

Add a poll mate and find out what the consensus is:good
I really like Froch, but I feel Taylor's more accurate shots should take him to victory in a tight points affair (I'm basically Taylor 55% - Froch 45% on this one). Taylor has a hell of a good jab as well; that will probably be his key weapon: good for dictating the pace of the fight and generally staying out of harms way while he wracks up the points. Froch will definitely have his moments though.
Froch has a punchers chance I would think. I wouldn't rate it any better than that, and its not a huge chance because he plants his feet and wings in his power shots so they are very obvious. I think thats the reason he couldn't finish Pascal when he was expected to.
I think Taylor will outbox him.

Froch late stoppage after coming back from being behind in the first third of the fight.

I posted this on another forum i use:
Froch has a great chin, and good power. Going into the ring against Taylor he'll have a big height and reach advantage. Froch has said that before the Pascal fight he decided he was going to go toe to toe and while he made it an exciting fight (Top 3 FOTY imo) his defence left a lot to be desired. He uses the shoulder roll technique, but he's not quick enough to pull it off as say, a peak James Toney for instance.
Taylor has the pedigree. Two wins over Hopkins and a draw against Wright (a fight i thought he lost). However since 2006 he fought much smaller men, and struggled against them - Ouma and Spinks, before coming unstuck against Pavlik. Since then he failed to stop a very poor Lacy. He has decent power, but nowhere near as good as Froch's and he hasn't stopped anyone in over four years.
My take - if Froch wins he cannot go toe to toe unless there's a big opportunity. Taylor has the ability to counter him. I think it will come down to hunger - Froch definitely has it, but i'm not so sure about Taylor (as BHop says - the hunger to fight goes when your fridge is full).
If both are fully focused, it's gonna be a classic, and i take Froch on a close points decision, provided he uses his jab.

i think its a case of most american fans over rating Taylor and under rating Froch. i would say its 55-45 Taylor due to expirence but i honestly think Froch will win and very very convincingly.
I think the US fans seem to think hes Gary Lockett or Michael Jennings.
I also gave Taylor Majority decisions agaisnt Hopkins twice, Wright and a draw in the 2nd Pavlik fight.
Oh bollocks, voted for Froch but meant to vote for Taylor.

This is the Brit forum, what do you expect? Most of us go with our hearts not our heads when it comes to British fighters.
Including me.:yep Froch TKO. Although I do think Froch has a good chance and haven't been too impressed with Taylor recently.

A bit more objectivity than in the General Forum............but at least we haven't started throwing insults at one another like they do in there.............not yet anyway:D

If Taylor is back fighting at a level he was against Hopkins then he should outbox Froch and take a decision by a few clear rounds. The thing is though there is little to suggest that Taylor has any of that desire back.
If he fights with the cautious approach he did in the second Pavlik fight then he could be in trouble. If Froch hurts Taylor early and makes him feel his power then he wins the fight.

I see the most likely outcome as being a very wide points win for Taylor.

I honestly think Forch may get schooled....badly.
First big fight in the US against,IMO, an underrated fighter.....he's going to be so so out his depth.
I thought he looked shit against Pascal. Ploderous, predictable and spent.
Looking forward to this more than Hatton-Pac. This is such a huge fight for Taylor that for once he's actaully trained properly so with increased stamina and his superior movement this is a huge step up for Froch. However, Froch has power and a good chin to compensate for his relatively poor footwork and movement so it would seem to point to either a Froch win inside the distance if he can get his right hand through, or Taylor on points.

i really hope froch wins... but.. he wont. Froch has the tougher chin and the bigger punch, so theres always a chance he could do it, but i think he will get owned... badly. I wish froch hadnt done so much trash talk, taylors weakness is his mental application, and all froch has done by mouthing off is to make sure taylor will be really up for this

I don't think Taylor is mentally or physically what he was 2 years ago but I think that may still be enough to beat Froch.
28/13 in favour of Froch :rofl:roll:

However, you just have to look at the posts to explain this.
A lot of "my head says Taylor, but I'm going with my heart which says Froch", "patriotism wins out for me", "I think Taylor will win, but I've gotta go with Froch", and even Ishy's classic "I meant to vote Taylor, but I clicked on Froch to win instead."
Shit, even I said I felt it was a 55-45 fight (albeit in favour of Taylor). I like Froch, but he's going in with a guy who held his own with Hopkins (twice), Winky Wright and Pavlik (more so in the 2nd fight, but also nearly had a KO win in the 1st fight).
The idea is to pick who you think will win, not who you want to win or blindly hope will win.
28/13 is not a fair reflection of this fight at all!

I know (I made this point on the first page when it was 8-2).
I'm just saying that the posts reveal a lot more than the statistical voting does. Its not the "Froch will win this easy" thread; the posters voting kinda know they are kidding themselves; thats not to say that Froch doesn't have a chance to win, this is boxing after all, but he is most definitely the underdog, and logic dictates that Taylor should emerge the victor.
and even Ishy's classic "I meant to vote Taylor, but I clicked on Froch to win instead."
 Fuck off, that was a genuine mistake.

Speed and experiance with Taylor
Froch has better chin and maybe more power
Spped kills and i think Taylor sneaks it on the cards....Froch is just too slow both footspeed and handspeed... froch will only win if he can KO Taylor

I believe Taylor wins UD he just seems to have better skills for me. Although Froch's unorthodox style may cause Taylor problems.

I voted Taylor, I reckon it's 65-35 in his favour, but oddschecker shows you can get him at virtually evens which IMHO is a cracking bet. He is a lot more polished and schooled than Froch. I'm not saying Froch has no chance because Taylor is not always totally focused and there is a possibility Froch could grind him down, especially as Taylor is not a real student of the game, but I think he probably takes a decision.
