I know Buncey reads this, c'mon !

Yeah Arce vs Darchinyan was great for the anoraks, but crikey they need this fight.

If a few foreign bantam-weigh fights get knocked on the head - so be it !

Agreed. Let a few fights slip for this one. British fights are a MUST. It's the only thing that will keep boxing alive amongst the mainstream.

Come on use ur heads, the reason we got Arce vs Darchinyan is because setanta have a multi fight deal with Top Rank.

They couldnt use the money from this deal to get the froch fight!

This deal gets us coverage of the best fighters Top Rank have, if setanta turned round and said they dont want the smaller fights, they wouldnt save a load of money. Its the top fighters that costs the most money to show.

The money they would save on the Top Rank deal wouldnt be nearly enough to pay for the froch fight!

all being said im not worried at all, setanta will get the froch fight in the end, its just a case of them waiting and negotiating

IMO there getting the cheapest deal possible waiting until right up near to the fight and then putting an offer in they cant refuse as noone else seems interested might as well pretend they arent and then do it at a dirt cheap rate

Hope that Setanta pick this up and that Hennessy and Froch price it to allow them to do so.

Don't care whether it's on Setanta One or Two.

I thought the reason they put fights on Setanta Two was that Setanta One on Freeview only broadcasts until a certain time and it would cut out halfway through the broadcast? Or has that changed now?

I'm not sure, but I subscribe to Setanta on freeview and have missed out on a large number of fights because they have put them on S2.

The channel "Cutting out" didn't seem to used to be a problem as I remember watching whole, live, US fights on S1. I don't recall any problems with Dawson/Johnson, Tarver/Woods, Calzaghe/Hopkins... and others...

It's just frustrating when you've subscribed to Setanta and a great live boxing match gets put on S2 which you can't access. Instead you have to put up with a re-run of a Scottish second division game on S1 instead. This is pretty much routine now.

I don't mean to moan, but it is a trifle frustraiting...

I was originally on the broadband service, but decided to purchased a special set top box, with card slot (I already had a box), and then payed for a Setanta card on top of that. Little did I know it meant you would only get about 10% of the boxing shown by Setanta...

It doesn't matter to me if Setanta picks this up late as I've got it anyhow.

But I'm not a big fan of the 'wait and see' approach to this from any of the channels. Its a major title fight for a major British fighter and to be just over a week away without it being in someone's schedule is disgraceful.

Boxing fans (not even casual fans) who aren't online will have forgotten that this fight is even happening and that can't be good news for the sport. Froch takes a risk, goes overseas v a live opponent and gets what profile?

I am sure Setanta have made an offer and the American network is holding out for more.

I am also sure an accountant is in the ear of the American network boss saying "well some money is better than no money"

Hennessy has the UK tv rights iirc, so don't think it's anything to do with Showtime.

What confuses me is these contracts Hennessey and ****** sign with TV stations.

******'s with Setanta and Hennessey's with ITV.

They are worthless it seems.

Next time I hear about some 30 fight exclusive deal with Setanta/ITV/Sky, I won't treat it seriously.

Setanta website still says Setanta One on Freeview is "midday until 3am" anyway. From memory they can extend this on occasions but have to pay to do so, hence the fights they have done this with are the ones that will actually show a benefit in attracting new subscribers (eg like the Calzaghe and Woods cards you mention). IIRC one time they had a card on Setanta One and it caused upset for freeview watchers who had forgotten that their coverage only lasted until 3am so now they put the cards on Setanta Two if that is going to be the case for avoidance of confusion.

It makes no sense to me to restrict Setanta 1 on freeview to a 3am deadline. Unless I hear a good reason for that, I'd have to conclude it's an arbitrary attempt by someone-or-another to scam extra fees.

It's perhaps bearable with the less public fights, but even the likes of Jones/Calzaghe are not extended on S1 anymore.

Still, with Haye's European fight times, he should hopefully be on on S1.

Will reassess the situation in the summer after that fight and once the football seasons over...

When Setanta have extended it it has involved them switching to another channel (top up tv channel) which they obviously then have to pay that broadcaster for. Obviously at some point they have to have somekind of cost/benefit equation. Presumably they don't feel that the amount it would cost them to extend the broadcasting hours regularly would benefit them or their customers.

If you want to change their minds, email and tell them you wouldn't mind paying more for a service that went past 3am, if enough people do that no doubt they will look into it.
