Look at the tale of the tape, 1974 foreman vs 1990 foreman.

I don't know how Foreman grew 1" in height between his first and second careers.

Dude, I hate to be the one to break it to you but the 1990s foreman sucked as a fighter. He was fat, slow, no reflexes, he had awful defense, limited skill, and he couldn't put away any top 10 contenders outside of a fluke shot on moorer. Shulz and Stewart two B level fighters beat him. He also lost his title to the worst champion of all time.... Shannon Briggs.

I dont buy that he grew an inch shit...you dont grow in height when your 40, you actually shrink. I doubt foreman defied science.

Why do you hate Foreman? He was old man and he won the Title.

So what if he was fat and slow. He won the title at 45, nearly 46.

Don't hate on a old man who is probably old enough to be your father.

He beat Walcott's record by 8 years.

YOUR RIGHT SUZIE, funny thing about this measurement stuff..the Big guys get bigger and the short get shorter...I have seen fighter listed at 6ft and have been shorter. A friend of mine says he stood next to Tyson and Mike was wider but not taller and my friend is 5"10...yet the Klitschko's are often listed at 6"7 1/2 and 6"8 1/2 it may be possible but I did not think Vitali was 8 inches taller than Peter and 5 inches taller than Gomez. Asa far as Foreman coming back I give him credit for doing it at his age and he beat a few good fighters but he was one of those guys like Quarry that when he had the body did not have the knowhow or had a major flaw( stamina in his case) then when he got older he did not have the young body but was more relaxed...Foreman i heard was 6"3 but he was a little taller than Ali who was listed as such

WHOOOAAA!!!!!!! Older Foreman was a beast....... He had good defense and a rock solid chin....... His power was there, as was his jab..... Okay.. Foreman was indeed slipping by 1995..... However, prior to 1995, Foreman was a lethal weapon at heavweight.......

As for Foreman's loss to Briggs on HBO in 1997... C'MON!! That decision was bogus bullshit....... 99% of the onlookers know that, as well...

MR.BILL

P.S.

Foreman was unmotivated and looking past Stewart in 1992.... That was NOT a serious Foreman in that ring....... Discount that fight....... BUT! He still gets the nod from me........

It is a good point though. I have seen Tyson listed as low as 5 ft 9. He is suddenly 5 ft 11 in some tales? The point is that many of the modern fighters are not as tall as they are listed. I am not sure whether reach and other statistics are also sometimes exagerrated, but it means that when comparing to fighters of yesterday (and even today) we cannot be sure about many stats. (at least that is what i think his point was).

He beat Walcott's record by 8 years.if you get 3 shots at the title in your 40's with his power and then fight the weakest chinned guy in Michael Moorer, you have a good chance of winning and he did. What would have happened had Bowe or Lennox fought Moorer? We saw what happened when Tua did later.

I met Foreman in person one time, and he didn't strike me as being an overly-tall guy, even though he is tall. If I can find the picture I will scan it and post it on here. I think his 6'4" listing was inflated to make him seem bigger and badder during his comeback. He was shorter than 6'4" Shannon Briggs and didn't seem to be all that much taller than Holyfield, who many people claim is closer to 6'1" than 6'2 1/2"..........Ali, who was always listed at 6'3" was noticeably shorter than both Holmes and Foreman, both of which were always listed at 6'3" back in the day........

One thing that always suprised me about Foreman was his weight when he beat Frazier back in 73. He was only 217 lbs, he looked like he was about 240. Frazier who looked so much smaller was only 3lbs lighter at 214lbs, and he's about 4 inches shorter than George.

I actually wouldnt be suprised if George came back an inch taller for his comeback. George is definitely a freak of nature, unlike most humans. Not invincible of course, I remember being at work the day before he fought Holyfield in 91, everyone including myself was saying that he was going to get brutally knocked out, then came Monday and everyone who saw the fight was suprised that he went the distance and was actually competitive with a prime Holyfield.
And 3 years later when he knocked out Michael Moorer I was one of many who jumped out of his seat when me put MM down for the count.

Good point. He always looked physically massive, which is why some people are surprised when they found out he was only 215-220 in his prime. He did look a lot bigger than that.

You are right, I met Ali and he may have been 6"2. or less..Holmes was tall mabey 6"3 or less but he had narrow shoulders and did not impress me as much as Joe Frazier who was square and thick ( freaky scary) and an Older JJWalcott, who had a heavy muscled upper body, thick head neck and shoulders and hands....Walcott was freaky looking and this was in the early 70's. In my estimate Foreman may have been 6'2 1/2 or 6"3....but modern heavys are made bigger...Bowe was 6'4 in the amatuers than grew an inch when he turned pro, Cooney was 6'5 1/2 then they made him 6'7....I guess it just sounds good with Heavys......Tyson looked shorter than 5'11 and Frazier may have been 5'11 or 5"10 but he was wide and thick....most of these guys are not as tall as listed...but it was something that started in the 70's and has continued

Foreman certainly didn't suck as a fighter in his second career. The man flattened Cooney, overwhelmed Qwai, gave Holyfield a great fight when the champion was in his prime, outpointed Alex Stewart, knocked out Michael Moorer, and deserved the decision over Shannn Briggs. You don't suck as a fighter and do that - especially in your 40s!

Foreman was a much smarter boxers in his comeback, even if his tools remained the same. But I have discussed that in another thread. This one concerns height so let me address that:

Why wouldn't having significantly more fat make you taller? Think about it. When you gain fat, your body enlarges. Fat cells grow on the bottom of your feet. That will make you taller. Fat cells grow on the top of your head. That will make you taller. Cells will grow between your vertebrae and joints. That will make your taller. Put it all together and it isn't hard to image than a man who is a tad over 6'3 become a tad under 6'4". Round down and up and you have the difference.

It is true that you get shorter with age, but that is much later in life. Foreman was blessed with a long youth. He will be a big man for a long time. And he will be one of the greatest heavyweights to ever grace this sport forever. The man is a marvel. It was beating a rampaging Foreman that put Ali's singular greatness beyond legtimate dispute.

Excess weight might make a person shorter. All that excess baggage pulling down on a person's frame, putting extra stress on the vertebrae in the back.

I don't think people's heights change as their weight changes. And I don't believe most people start losing height in their 40's. Some people don't seem to shrink no matter how old they get. I'm nearly 85 years old and, according to my doctor's nurse, I'm the same height now as I was at 30 years old.

Exactly when and how was George measured at 6'3"? If he was in his early twenties when that measurement was taken, he might have grown an inch. Some men eek out another inch during that time of life. Then again, maybe he stood up a little straighter when he was measured at 6'4". Also, I've heard that someone's height can vary nearly a half inch at different times during the day.

You make some good points! You are right - some people don't really shrink much when they age while other people shrink a lot. And the part about measuring different at different parts of the day is something that definitely happens to me....If I measure myself first thing in the morning, I'm 5'9 1/2". If I measure myself in the evening or at the end of the day, I'm just barely 5'9"......A lot of fighters' heights are probably measured with their boxing shoes on, so they gain a good inch or so in height.

Foreman and Holmes were always listed as 6'3". Then in 1990's, for some reason, they were always listed as 6'4" Holyfield is just under 6'1", but has been listed as igh as 6'2 1/2" Networks wants them to seem bigger I guess.
