View Full Version : Next For Katsidis?

Who do you guys want to see Kats take on next, and who are the most logical choices?
Keep in mind Mick is rated 15th by the IBF and the title is vacant i believe... could he get a crack at it?
Amir Khan: Great fight IMO, both have opposing flaws and weaknesses. Khan has great power, accuracy and quite good defence. But his chin sucks, sucks real bad and he is still fairly green. Kats would likely get pummelled from the opening round but his bulldog style offensive would keep Khan on the back foot and one good hook would end it all. Khan UD or Kats mid round KO... would not be surprised to see Kats lose on cuts, Khan throws vicious jabs. My money would be on Kats to KO the china chin Khan... would be able to get inside the jab and unload. May not happen now due to Khan going to 140...
A win here would see him go up in the IBF and WBO rankings
Anthony Peterson: A win here would see Kat jump to number 5 with the IBF and prob get a shot at the vacant title? Peterson isnt a big KO artist and has fought hand picked opposition IMO... a good boxing but nothing overly special. From what i have seen of Peterson, Katsidis would be able to dominate him in the middle rounds where Peterson drops off and possibly KO him.
Who else?

Surely Valero is in the mix. The 2 winners should fight.
Buckwheat didnt really give us a good guide to Valero.

Amir Khan is stepping up to Jnr Welter. I think a return with Casa is on the cards...

Definately Casamayor. I think this time Kast fights a bit smarter & wins a dec.

Anthony Peterson is 1 guy i personally would not want Katsidis to face.
I would rather him stick with Casamayor an experienced veteran/good payday or Valero top gun/big payday....rather than Anthony Peterson young fighter untested really/smallish payday...wayy bigger risk.

Sounds good provided Rocky changes his style because it will be the same as the first fight if he goes in hard.

I do....I like rocky....I had him ahead when he got stopped by Joel and I thought he beat Juan....well maybe
Just want him to win the next few including the title shot
I think Rocky should just ease back a lil and take on some solid opponents not ones where he has to go life and death. Fight for a bit of money to get his future solidified.

Teke........... Kats is fighting in the USA. What is the chance of any 'low key' fight allowing him to go any further?? Once a title shot is in the works, then a 'warm up' is worthy.
A few restful fights would be fine for Kats, just not at this time.

I agree. He's got the momentum going again now. He beats Casamayor and suddenly he's a major player again, if he's not already. The problem is, with Mick's tendency to cut and swell, he's a good punch away from a TKO loss. Take the big money and fights while they're on offer.
Im with that plan, i just want him to make money

Agreed Ippy, although swelling, cutting and bleeding has kept a lot of fighters in action in the US PPV stations, purely for that sake... entertainment.
Kats is still in a very positive position and needs to move forward to consolidate some future earnings. A remeatch with Casa.. has to happen. He is a great prospect, with a future of entertaining veiwers with success or hardness.
Plenty of current guys continue to entertain on the same level... I hope Kats becomes a little more than a short term entertainer.

The word I received is Golden Boy aren't interested if he has another loss. That however was after his back to back defeats against Casa and Diaz, so not sure how that stands now.

i just watched the latest Katsidis fight (thanks leon)
he started the first round great but he was getting outboxed in the 2nd and 3rd.
now id say most of the time kat has a nice jab but boy does he get counters on that punch sometimes.
he is a great fighter no doubt, but i really want him to make some changes. he always steps into distance and allows the other fighter to get off first. if he is goind to do that he needs to move his head more. and he should get a new trainer imo. he can still stay on but as fitness coach.

Totally agree.
He eats too many right hands. He throws his left from his chest and rarely brings it back near his chin.
He also gets caught coming out of clinches when he has to turn. He turns and gets caught. Again, hands too low.
He's never going to be a cutey but small adjustments will help preserve him.

That's exactly right.
Also, until some slight changes are made to his defence, he should steer clear of Valero. A rematch with Casa should be where he's looking.

Why do people always mention that he should leave Smith? Smith got him to where he is today and most importantly Mick seems comfortable with him in the corner.

I'm with ya Ippy. Sometimes it's all about what your comfortable with. Cerniza wouldn't have heard the final bell with anyone other than me and you in his cormer the other week. Dundee, Steward, Roach, whoever...

Apparently HBO are keen on continuing the tournament and want to pair Katsidis v Escobedo and Valero v Reyes.
It will depend on whether Arum agrees on Valero continuing in the tourney. it's 1000/1 because Valero is scheduled to fight on July 25 and the only reason Valero fought in the tournament in the first place is because GBP bought his contract for the Pitalua fight. so he is Toprank from here on...

If i were Valero's team a fight with Katsidis would be perfect.
Someone HBO would approve as an opponent, top 10 ranked Lightweight (by ring magazine & espn), well known in the US market & someone i think that will make Valero have a tv friendly fight in which Valero wins.

Unfortunately I agree.Valero was lethal as a Sup Feather, he's murderous as a lightweight.
I wouldn't put Mick on the same plane as him. :nono
