I use to dislike larry merchant as a commentator but i grew to kinda like him as for max i doubt it at least when merchant says something dumb its funny but when max does it comes off as annoying lampley thought he had it bad sitting next to merchant for more than 15 years it will only get worse with max

Max’s knowledge of the sport of boxing is exstensive – the guy knows what he’s talking about. He may be a bit opinionated – but what commentator isn’t.
He did a great job on Friday Night Fights for ESPN and I think he did a pretty good job on Boxing After Dark. He may not be the best at what he does – but he’s pretty good.

He lost my respect when he said that Forrest had beat Mayorga 8-4 rounds in the second fight, I thought he maybe took X before the fight, but he scored it perfect for the DLH-PBF fight when he had it 8-4 for PBF. Not the greatest but he is solid.
I actually just watched this fight again. He actually scored it 9-3 for Mayweather(I had the same score). Overall, I think he's a solid commentator sometimes he gets annoying though.

Larry has personality and that air of paternal wisdom with a touch of dementia. But when you really stack them side by side his mic skills aren't that much greater than Max's. They are a dead wash in knowledge/critical analysis/insight. The people who strongly dislike Max, whatever other flimsy reasons they give, dislike him because he's young and earnest. And the people who like him, whatever other flimsy reasons they give, like him because he's young and earnest. Just different tastes, cannot be reconciled.

"RJJ beats a prime Frazier..."
That quote alone is enough reason to hate him.

i used to like Max when he was on public access here in nyc, continued to like him on FNF and Around the Horn, but hate him as a HBO broadcaster dunno why i guess when comparing him to Lampley, Merchant, and even Foreman theres no comparison really.

This is the problem with boxing, it's too subjective. My most important critera when scoring a round is clean effective punching. Oscar didn't land many clean punches the whole fight. There were two rounds that Oscar clearly won. There was another one that was a toss up that I gave to DLH(they landed the same amount of punches that round). The 12th round was also close, but I gave it to Mayweather. The rest of the rounds, Mayweather won with relative ease. There were a couple of good jabs that Oscar landed, the rest of his punches were all arm punches that either grazed Floyd or were blocked. All those flurries against the ropes made it look like Oscar was doing something, but they weren't landing.

9-3 is a bit of a stretch. . I had it 7-5, 8-4 is reasonable.

I would say the exact opposite. I had it 9-3, 8-4 is reasonable, and 7-5 is a bit of a stretch. This is the problem that occurs when you have a sport that is so dependant on subjectivity

point taken, maybe thats why the sport shoud reward the fighters who actually make an effort to take the decision out of the judges hands.
In Japan MMA they score for agression and Ippon - which means "trying to finich the fight"

I disagree. For a good portion of the fight, Oscar stood in the middle of the ring and didn't throw any punches. For about 10-15 seconds in many of the rounds he would throw arm punches while Floyd was against the ropes(most of which were blocked). Floyd countered while he was on the ropes, used his jab effectively while they were in the middle of the ring, and also threw some nice combinations in the middle of the ring.

This coming from a man who thought Tito's aggression against Oscar was bull because it was all about a boxing lesson (without landing punches and running):good
you got the wrong guy homie.
I defy you to find the post to back up your bullshiit.

I have no problem with Kellerman. He used to annoy me, but I got over it. His knowledge of the history of the sport is excellent.
So he makes bad picks and fawns over some fighters. Good think ESB posters DON'T ever do that...

Thats why you got to knock them out or put a one sided beating... check out the #2 guy in p4p he does it.:good
Mayweather has administered plenty of one sided beatings. However, when your opponents outweigh you by 10+ lbs. it's hard to score KO's. Pac comes into 130 lb. fights weighing 144 lbs.(4lbs. less than Floyd did for a 154 lb. fight) Pac is usually about the same size or bigger than his opponenets. If Pac went up against a quality fighter who outweighed him by 10+ lbs. on the night of the fight, it would be a whole different story for him.

I used to almost like Max in the past. He has good knowledge and seems passionate about the sport (assuming it's not uh, enhanced). But he has strong biases that I don't share... and it just gets annoying. He doesn't wear well with me. I could change my view of him if he improved.
