View Full Version : Boxers big fight biggest "mistake"
FLINT ISLAND

We all know of Enzo Maccarenellis high profile big mistake in the David Haye fight of dropping his hands and putting his chin in the air.
The video I posted the other day showed Michael Grants huge mistake of taking the fight aggresively to Lennox Lewis from the opening bell :bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb
Oscar De La Hoya danced away the last 3 rounds on against Felix Trinidad as if it was a marathon contest - it cost him the fight - and earned him the nickname "Chicken De La Hoya"
If some of these fighters had not made the fatal "mistake" the fight could have resulted in a much better result for them
What other big "mistakes" have cost a boxer badly in big fights?

Nah, the def. punch threw him off balance and panicked Toney, Jones only moved into the space that Toney gave up because he'd been hit.
If Toney had of gone on his arse or to a knee that would have been legit knockdown. No question. Only the ropes made the decision debateable.

The one thing I've seen that made me cringe, made me feel sick was when Calzaghe pretended to fuck B-Hop up the arse. I could see it was just an instictive thing, and out of character, but it was fucking horrible. It seems to have been glossed over but I really think that it was unacceptable really. And I fucking hate B-hop as well, but it just wasn't right. I think when people look back over JC's legacy and watch all his big fights they will always see that for ever, I bet it haunts Joe, it would me.
Also Rahman in the second Lewis fight listening to his corner tell him to stick his arms out as a form of defence. The very next round KABOOM!!!! Massive right hand round the back of Rahmans outstretched arms. Bunch of dumb cunts.

Them are the two that imediately jumped to my mind - Graham getting sparked by a man he was easily outboxing, and like the man said before, Meldrick Taylor getting KOed in the last seconds by Chavez who he'd outboxed all the way.

Battling Siki defending his World Championship against Mike McTigue; in the then basically war torn Dublin, on St Patrick's Day, is kind of a biggie!
Hagler running in the last few rounds against Vito.
Nicky Piper taking a catchweight contest against an alleged Journeyman cruiserweight at less than 24 hours notice....
Alex Garcia not taking a $1Million pay day against Riddick Bowe, because he wanted a tune up (and lost in two, to Mike Dixon)
Morrison wanting to fight in front of his home fans as a warm up to a proposed Lewis fight in early 1994 (and lost to Michael Bentt in a round)

Thats the first fight I thoght of when I saw this thread.
Juan Manuel Marquez's management turning down $750,000 for a rematch after the first fight with Pacquiao then being stripped of one of his belts because no one met the purse bids and then going to Indonesia to get robbed of his other belt by Chris John instead, for $30,000!

No, the most important thing is to be man enough to admit when you've just been totally outclassed rather than using an imaginery 'mistake' as a pathetic exucse :yep

The fight was quite even until the weigh in. Enzo got outclassed during the weigh-in, embarrasingly dominated during the ring walks (using 'walk' fairly loosely in Enzo's case obviously) and smashed in the ring.
