View Full Version : Will Calzaghe retire after Kessler
If he wins he will go for a fight against Hopkins,
but what if he is badly beaten by wide UD or KO?

Yeah, whether he wins or loses, he'll fight again. Depending on how he loses, he could even fight Kessler again.

I bet he'll keep fighting. His stock has never been higher and he is finally becoming known world round. Big $$ relative to before for the UK champ

No, no. Mads Larsen is back. If Calzaghe beats Kessler the Danes can still argue that he is ducking Larsen.

that may be true but dont u think it will be the same % of the jc fans bailing out if jc looses?
in my opinion there are the same amount of nutthuggers in both camps
80% of these Danes will clear out after Nov. 3rd.
Why should we bail out, we'll have a great time here, but im afraid that a lot of the Calzaghe fans will disappear. If Kessler loses i will cheer Calzaghe bc. then he is very good!

I don't think Calzagne retires yet either way. If he wins he wants a big payday vs. an Amrican such as Hopkins, if he loses he'll want revenge, and then a big payday vs. an American such as Hopkins. :D
Is it a special weekend in wales? we havent heard from the Calzaghe
hardcore fans! they must be busy with somthing?
Come on give us some resistance:bbb

I think JC want's a rematch if he loses. MK will give him a rematch that is for sure. But will JC do the same the other way around - I SURE HOPE.
By the way - FAT TONY - you will never hear a word about Mads Larsen if MK loses. Because Mads Larsen is so much below MK and will never even be a threat to a #10 ranked boxer.

No way ! Fagzaghe has way more ball suckers ! I think most of his fans have a man crush on him !
Hey ManLovin,
Are you perhaps an expert on the 'man-crush' ?
You seem pretty obsessed with old Roy. (Your avatar and all those inane polls).
You remind me of another poster who can't stop posting about Oscar.
And there's a few who can't get Floyd off their mind. With others, it's Klit-hating, etc.
All you obsessive hater types could form a support group, get your own forum on ESB and then just sit aroud and 'bitch' the night away.

Trust me! From November 4 2007 the boxing world will quite automatically identify and acknowledge Super Middleweight as Kessler's Kingdom :happy:happy:happy
You think Calzaghe will announce his move up to Light-heavyweight straight after his victory then eh ?

Boxing: Kessler to English boxing fans “Call me Mike Kessler”
August 27th 2007
In a short interview today unified super middleweight champion Kessler urged English boxing fans to get behind him in his upcoming super fight with Joe Calzaghe.
“I was born and raised in the Danish culture but I feel very much I have the blood of my English mother. I have many English traits such as ”
“Joe Calzaghe is of a Welsh-Italian bloodline so it makes sense for the English fans to back me. Call me Mike Kessler.”
Kessler is also planning to drop his nickname of the “Viking” for that of past English champion Lennox Lewis; “the Lion”
The fight on November 3rd is now officially being billed as: Battle of Britain - “The Pride of Wales” Joe Calzaghe vs. Mike “The English Lion” Kessler.

 PR is always a powerful tool. He knows he is fighting abroad and hopes for a few cheers from the english.
I can't take the Lion thing seriously. That belongs to me:lol: . Besides it doesn't suit Kessler in any way. Sounds more like journalists continuing the train of thought of Kessler.
He can call himself Viking Warrior, Hitman, Left Crook, Sweet Nut, Simply the Simpson or whatever, he will still kick JCs butt:lol: :smoke
That said, he shouldn't abandon his english heritage either. Guess JC don't do that either. I bet he drives Ferraris

It is a bit far totally dropping the "Viking Warrior" thing.
He could have compromised with something like the "Viking Settler".

Joe's technically English though being born In London. Mikkel's only a halfling because his mums English.
Remember when Lacy wore an England shirt and pretended he had English ancestors? He called them something like Benjemin Disraili Lacy or some crap like that.
Arran said he was going to root for Lacy too at the time because Lacy wore an England shirt.
Calzaghe's dragon slap will cut through Kessler's Lion punch.

He lives rather modestly actually. In what context? I know he isn't extravagant, but surely he surrounds himself with objects of quality. I would be very surprised if he doesn't have one italian car of some sort, or is somewhat italian in what he does; expensive watches, expensive designer clothes, etc etc. I wouldn't hold it against him, since he doesn't act like a PBF or Paris Hilton in the spending department

Sharing genes with someone is a better reason for supporting them than rooting for them based on the fluke location where they were born. Hence you want to see an English human win a fight with a Danish animal, like say a dog.
Another good reason for supporting a boxer is if they are facing a traitor like Mike.

Another good reason for supporting a boxer is if they are facing a traitor like Mike.Gene pools are the wrong way to go about it. A person could derive from 10s of nations down the ancestry. If you feel danish, born danish, then you are danish. If he feels more like a limey then peace with him, he has a english mother so its never treason nor would I care. I like Kessler because he is talented, a likeable person and knows the danish language pretty well.
Lets not argue about the english vs the danes. Its a battle you can't win.

Everyone who gains a measure of wealth is going to have a nice home, some nice vehicles and other luxury items, but that's about where it ends for Calzaghe. He doesn't own a Ferrari to my best knowledge, I believe he drives a Jag Vanden Plas series and even when he's about, he's never wearing expensive designer clothes(not that there is anything wrong with that).
I have nothing against spending well earned wealth on nice things like you, I have plenty against parasitic materialism, to the point where it's a large part of the meaningless existence.
Joe still trains in that old gym, he'll hang out with the kids around town and he's generally just a modest Welshman who happens to be a phenominal boxer.
He deserves a lot of respect, it is not his fault that the best names avoided the prospect of fighting him, namely Ottke/Beyer on the Euro circuit and then the top named yanks. Look at how he jumped to face Kessler when they could not convince Taylor for 6 million dollar fight.

It was never a claim to say that Calzaghe wanna display his wealth.
I would likewise surround myself with things I like, if I could afford it, but I would never buy stuff just to gain social acceptance. Nor have I ever felt that JC was such a figure.
Nonetheless, thank you for giving me more insight into the being Calzaghe. He appears more and more to me as a good bloke. Nor do think that JC had anything to do with the match with Kessler has been this delayed. The time is right, the time is now. The Taylor thing is nothing I would blame JC nor FW. Taylor as we know is great reward vs risk.
But I do blame him for not trying to push FW further to the big fights and for failing to compromise.
