The female judge was a disgrace,but what I could not understand was Larry O Connells scorecard,he is straight ,I have sat next to him at several promotions in London,,and he only lives about 20 mins from me the man is not crooked ,but boy did he have a bad night!

I dont know if I would be this upset over the decision if I were Lewis. With the ease that Lewis beat Holyfield I would go with the flow Its amazing but Don King was able to spin it into enough contraversy, and although the fight was a one sided win for Lewis in my opinion, it still justified a rematch for blatant poor scoring. This probably put an additional 15 million in Lewis and Kings pocket.

You do realize that you have to go through another hard training camp of two months, doing the same things all over again, risk getting screwed by the judges in the rematch or be caught by a lucky shot, not to mention....not being able to call yourself undisputed heavyweight champ when you clearly are?

I dont think there was a person on the planet who believed Lewis lost, including Holyfield. Whats the difference, Lewis most likely would have had to defend his title against some no name Don King fighter or a washed up Tony Tucker again where the very same things could have happened like you mentioned, or fight Holyfield for another record grossing payday. Besides the fight wasnt too tough for Lewis. To me, I wouldn't be that upset, but thats me..

The scary thing is that the judjes wernt trying to produce a draw they were trying to produce a Holyfield win. It was only by an accident of the arithmatic that it ended up as a draw.

Just imagine if they had not made that miscalculation and Holyfield had edged it on the scorecards.

I've met Larry O'Connel myself at a few boxing functions. One of whoch was the "Henry Cooper golf classic" at Muswell Hill. I think it was either Johnny Pritchett or John Conteh that was Mc for the day. It was not long after the fight and it was mentioned by one of the aforementioned. Everyone had a laugh at Larry's expense. He took it on the chin.
I think he scored it how he saw it.
What I've been wondering is if the judges keep an unnoficial scorecard for these big fights or just hand in the scorecards at the end of each round and forget about it. Is there a protocol? I can easy see a case for an official being influenced towards the home/champ/favoured fighter when it comes down to the last rounds if he knows how his scorecard is going.
Any judges on the forum?

This is true, and one of the main reasons I never really cared for Lewis. He took very few chances against any fighter with any real talent. He was even cautious with the ghost of Mike Tyson. Sure he could take out amatuers like Mike Grant and headcases like Andrew Golota, but if it was a fighter with any pedigree, he danced and waltzed to a safe win. Still doesnt justify corruption, and Im pretty sure a judge cant score the fight based on hatred of Lewis' fighting style, although it would be an interesting way to correct heavyweight boxing. You either fight or you dont score points. Today we would have a bunch of scoreless fights.:hey
