View Full Version : Can you avoid the Froch v Taylor result until Sunday night?

This seems very like that episode of the likely lads when they spent the day avoiding the England result in order not to spoil the game on TV later.
ITV4 at 8.30pm on Sunday is achievable. I will watch the formula 1 in the morning then spend the rest of the day as the ideal family man - doing the garden, playing with the kids followed by a BBQ.
By 8.30pm the kids will be in bed and the Mrs will be so chuffed that she will not dare moan about boxing encroaching onto a Sunday night.

Last Saturday I told my Dad that I was Sky+ing the Chelsea v Arsenal game because we were out until late. When I arrived home the answerphone was flashing - to my horror it was my dad's voice chanting - "2-1"
Hence my biggest obstacle is close to home, and hence he will not be told of the plan

No, I havn't got the willpower to not find out until half 8, I'll either have to catch a live stream or D/L a torrent first thing in the morning.

Fuck yeah.
I'll just get steaming Saturday night and even if I do go on ESB I wont fucking remember.
So glad that ITV are showing this. Fuck that crappy internet PPV shit.

Do some people live on the internet or something?
Sadly, I will be having to resist the temptation to switch on my computer on Sunday.
I just fucking know some bastard msn pop up or some shit will appear the instant I click on internet explorer and thus give away the result.
Either that or I'll go to the BBC sports website out of habit and without thinking.
I may catch a stream of the fight or download it on Sunday morning. I'm not waiting till Sunday night to watch the fight. If it was Sunday morning, early afternoon then it'd be different.

I wonder what the difference in price for the rights 8.30pm compare to 8.30 am.
Early Sunday morning would have brought back my early Tyson memories

Easy to avoid.
Although the Mrs will have to proof read any texts I receive that day.

working 05:30-16:30 on sunday will have to stay clear of the net all day and give everyone a warning not to say anything, then come home feet up few beers and enjoy, Tried this for Calzaghe vs Jones JR was going a treat until bbc news was on and spoiled it for me.

Time is playing tricks on you.......
TYYYYYSONNN used to be on at 9.25am;)
Seriously though, I know what you mean.....
The beauty of scouting though the channels, all four of them, in the middle of night, trying to catch a red triangle film on four, only to see, unadvertised the Barkley/HearnsI bill on ITV!

It will be nigh on impossible. Even if you manage to avoid it on tv and radio, Froch will probably pop his head above the water when your in the bath, like the Carlton Palmer advert, and tell you the result himself.

No i ruined UFC for my brother so im expecting it back this weekend.

Big, big Froch fan. will have to find out.
he's very underrated in the world quality sense.
It was pointless him calling out Calzaghe. I have no douybt that he would have defeatd the Calzaghe of 2008, possibly even the version of 2007. It would have proven nothing.
The Froch of now vs the Calzaghe of 2006 would've been a wonderful fight. But it simply could not have happened.

It'll be pretty easy. None of my mates watch boxing, it wont get much media coverage and I'll just keep off any sports websites or news channels.

It will be interesting to hear on Sunday night how many people managed to get away without hearing the result :)

How would it be difficult? Sleep, avoid the TV & radio for a while, & I aint trying to be funny FFS.
Just do that, & watch like it were truly live. All you will be missing is the immediate aftermath on the forums, & I always feel thats the worst time to post, cos everyone is on such a buzz that no one makes sense in the first day after a fight anyway, myself included.
Its only once everyone calms down proper debate takes a foothold, so just hold off, like me. or dont if you dont want to take advice from big bad me.
Its up to you at the end of the day.

when i wake up sunday morning i will not be able to help my self and will be coming on here to check the result even though i will be watching the delayed showing on Itv that night . i dont mind knowing the result if its a knock out but its harder to watch it if you know it went to points. maybe some how i will summon the willpower to resist untill sunday evening

I'm out on Saturday night anyway so i'm hoping to wake up and get up late. I've got a few films to watch so that should keep me content til 8:30pm, then i'll go over to my girlfriends and watch it with her mebbe :)
Or i'll spend the day with her; she wont know the result before me so she aint gonna give the game away!

I will watch it live. I can't pick a winner because I have not seen that much of Froch. He can win this fight, but he must not allow Taylor to outwork him. The judges and ref will be on Taylor's side, so it will be difficult for him to win a decision in Taylor's territory.

Yeah. Easy. I usually avoid the big fight results for 3-4 days while my DVD arrive. So this is fairly straight forward.
Unless the F1 commentators mention it, but why would they? :huh
Apart from that, don't go on any websites or see any sports news. Its not like the media give a fuck anyway, it won't be widely reported like really important sporting news of Andy Abraham making the Quarter Finals of the Tennis at Flushing Garros.

I'll avoid the result all day, the show will start and they will probably give away that Froch won right at the start.

When I was a football fan, I used to work every sat afternoon so I had to learn to avoid the results so I could enjoy the highlights, I developed an excellent system. I wasn't born this good, I'm just a product of circumstance.
I will just watch it live.

Aye. What the fucks the point.
Watch it in High Def later - if he doesn't get clowned.

I was going to avoid the result and watch the ITV coverage but I am starting to reconsider.
I really want to watch the Sunday afternoon coverage of Juan Manuel Lopez against Penalosa on Setanta but I have a feeling if I do, Setanta will spoil the Froch result for me.
Might have to download the fight early Sunday morning.

I am playing poker Saturday night so I will be in bed until midday Sunday. Then up and off to the pub for my nephews birthday party. Then off to visit the missis' family so will have to have a cd on in the car as you never know with radio. Then my in laws know I love boxing so one of them clowns will probably tell me. Then the kids and missis will mess about with the telly channels when we get home so it WILL be hard for me.
I guess you are just lucky that you have no missis and sleep all day long while its nice and sunny outside? Oh you live in Scotland FFS..never mind about the sunshine then. :good

Basically impossible, especially considering I will be watching the JuanMa fight and maybe post-fight analysis from Buncey or whatever might reveal the result.....plus teletext, and it WILL be on the news, it is definitely an event, a whole page in the sun today, not the usual tidbits our fighters get.
And surely we will be able to gauge the result from the lead-in on ITV, Jim Rosenthal's face will say it all, or will they just start with 'we are proud to bring you this brilliant victory for Froch'....
it is basically impossible methinks, will love it if I can do it though.

avoiding it would be a challenge i think, but i'm up for a challenge!
may lead to that build-up of excitement that you would normally get by having to wait all night to see A BRITISH WORLD CHAMPION fight!
in fact no!,i'm going nocturnal as from tonight to get my body clock tuned-in,then pretend that we really did get BRITISH T.V rights!!!!
scumbags drove me to this rant ,sorry!
