Sometimes that excuse is overused however if someone were to say to me "that left hook that morrison landed on Ruddock would have koed anybody" i would believe it

Its definitely an excuse when people are trying to defend there fighter its usually the first or second thing they say to take away from the fact your fighter got knocked out

Agreed...however i did say the left hook Morrison landed on Ruddock was a punch that could put down most fighters

It's a little diffrent with heavyweights I think ! Some of the punches those guys throw would knock out anybody ....
I thought we were taking all divisions into consideration?!
The punch that Tarver knocked out Jones with would not knock out anybody !
LOL, yeah right. Jones has a Glass Jaw.

On the contrary, I thought it was a perfect punch.

i think the punch ding landed to ko nwodo ko's anyone! that shit was brutal. tarvers shot on rjj was not that great. some dudes would eat that and stay up! True the only difference is a good fighter would of stayed away from ding after knowing they had the fight in the bag nwodo was hurt bad before that devastating punch landed but yes almost anyone would of been in a coma after that punch

It would if they didn't have a over average chin.

Jones' leaping left hook that landed on Griffin would also IMO.

If you know even the basics of boxing you'd know it's the punch you don't see that does the most damage. So if a fighter is knocked out by a wicked punch he didn't see, most fighters in the same position would also be knocked out if they didn't see. But if they saw it, they'd probably either block it or roll with it. But in reference to saying fighters have glass jaws tells me you have absolutely no respect for what they do and you're not much of a boxing fan, so you might want to consider another sport. :hi:

What you don't agree that you would have to have a solid chin to stand that shot? Quit hitting yourself in the head and think a bit.

Right , That's one of the factors that makes a fighter great !
Are you now claiming that Roy isn't great?
Hey, dumb ass.
1. Where did you learn "glass" and "jawed" were capatilized.
2. Where did you learn your retarded, second grade-like reading skills?
3. I don't think anyone that makes it through 12 rounds with Foreman can be considered to have a glass jaw.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Morrison had a terrible chin. That is a fact Jack!

How does someone with a "terrible" chin go 12 rounds with Foreman, you 60 IQ moron?
because he ran the whole fight.

It's definitely overused by protective fanatics, but it's also important to know the difference and keep perspective.

Actually, i raarely ever hear someone say it. Can't remember the last time, in fact. But the whole calling everyone that's been knocked down or knocked out before glass jawed is getting REALLY fucking annoying.
It's used anytime a widely popular boxer (or at least one with a rabid internet following) gets unexpectedly KO'ed. But again, I'm not defending the practice of indiscriminately calling everyone who gets unexpectedly KO'ed glass-jawed.

May i ask, lets take sweet pea for example. He has been knocked down a few times in his career however never knocked out. Would you guys consider him glass jawed?

Jesus Christ man ! Would you forget about Roy for two seconds !
Not when you make statements that you knowingly make to try to bring him down without actually saying it.:good
Mind Reader
08-27-2007, 02:02 AM
Not as great as he could've been ! That's for sure !
What???? I hear all this you claim of his chin being bad and now he wasn't as great as he could have been? Now, explain how he could have been greater having no chin to start out with. From what you say he is lucky it didn't get exposed, it seems he should be thankful to get out as good as he did right?

I honestly believe that anyone that took the Rahman punch that Lewis took in the first fight would be lights out. The power and where it landed was just debilitating.

Actually I didn't think that shot was that great . I think Griffin hit his head on the canvas !
For one, only Jones can throw that shot, it was a shot that showed an amazing ability.... The way Griffin's head snapped back speaks for itself. Beautiful punch... Your hate makes me sick.

I don't like it either. Take George Chuvalo into consideration. Hit him with any shot in history and I don't see it putting him out in one punch. Nobody could even knock him down, much less out.
Marnoff

Yes and the 1-2 combo Lennox hit Rahman with in the rematch would've gotten rid of ANYONE.
Why, because Rahman is subpar and was there to be pounded by Lennox's bombs?
Besides that, Chuvalo would have eaten it and kept coming. No question.

What about the punch Wlad hit Brock with?
that was a damn good punch but Brock has a shaky chin, there are some Heavyweights that could have took it. Peter, Valuev, Big Klitschko and some others would have took it.

Man it was picture perfect and Brock never saw it coming. Plus we know Wlad has power. I would never say a certain punch would knock everybody out but most take a nap after that punch.

It really depends not on the punch but the guy getting punched being standing in the same stance, the same level of unbalance or unawareness of the punch coming, if you put all those factors together with th epunch that would ko anybody then yes im sure it would, because if you off balance and your chin is up then yeah everyone in that exact position would likely get koed by that big punch.

yup those 3 punches had mike's head rockin like a speed ball. he still tried to beat the count though and got up after that, testament to his cast iron chin. other heavy's would have been out cold for minutes.

or maybe chuvalo wouldve just never been caught in that position....like Lewis caught with his chin a little raised and moved to the side with his hands not completely at his sides

This nonsense is one of the biggest fallacies in the sport - and there is no way to prove it. The only thing we can is THAT punch knocked out THAT fighter. :yep
Of course, fans have been using this to justify the losses, and frequently over-inflate the durability, of their favorites forever - and they will continue to do so, even though it IS utter nonsense and completely unproveable. :nod

While it may be true that a punch that KO'd a fighter could have KO'd anyone, it really is a piss poor excuse to explain away a loss.
Of course, it's not as bad as saying "It was a lucky punch." That one is even more annoying.

Tex Cobb must have a glass jaw because he got knocked out in the first round and the "That Punch Would Have KOed Anybody" argument is supposedly false.
I guess the punches he took from Earnie Shavers mean Shavers isn't that big of puncher.

Jones' leaping left hook that landed on Griffin would also IMO.
The fact that Griffin was not knocked out cold and actually got up again before losing his balance kinda tells me that the punch wouldn't knock out everyone.....
