View Full Version : Darren Barker V Matt Macklin
Darren wants the fight who wins?
Toss up.
Barker is the more skilled. Macklin might have turned into more of a boxer lately, but Darren was a top amateur and you can see that in his style. Very refined and textbook.
I think Macklin is a little tougher, and a more powerful puncher. Barker has a dodgy chin and his punch power is not impressive.
I'd probably go Macklin at a push but I wouldn't bet any money.
I would say Macklin but thats if i was forced good clash of styles.

Cracking fight, really hard to pick a winner. At a push I'd go for Macklin.
Barker is fighting Mcdermott in Watford soon isn't he?

I really like Macklin but I think that the more skillful Barker will take this...just...at a push, if he keeps his chin tucked. :think

Would be a great fight, I'd favour Macklin but I might be biased.
Unfortunately it mightn't happen, ****** is having Macklin defend against Steve Bendall on the undercard of Khan's fight with Kotelnik and then trying to get him to fight Gevor in September for the European(or at least that's what been stated), so that could end up with Macklin being stripped of the British title for failing to defend his mandatory due to taking the European shot.
Gevor's a very good champion though so I'd be slightly surprised if ****** followed through with his intentions.

Toss up.
I like both these two.
Macklin is slightly ahead in terms of his development.... if he can get a Euro shot it's pointless hanging around for a fight to happen..... it could always occur down the line.

Gotta get past McDermott first, be no pushover.
I reckon if Barker keeps his defence tight he could beat Macklin on points
I wouldn't put Macklin in with Gevor to be honest. I think he'd get blasted. I remember him fighting Ajetovic and freezing up under pressure. God knows how he'd fare with Gevor coming forward.

This would be an excellent fight!
I see Barker just edging it through his boxing brain but Macklin, with his style and experience, asking a lot of questions...
And it would be on ITV!

Unless frank wins purse bids??
I like to look of Barker, don't know where the dodgy chin comment came from? They guy reguarly spars with Kessler and Froch, something i doubt Macklin is doing.
I go with Barker i don't really rate macklin and i do rate Barker, much better all round fighter, don't doubt his toughness, he is also naturally bigger macklin could get down to light middle and Barker coudl easially go up to Super Middle. I could see Barker picking up a world title before his career is out.
I play in the same football league as him on saturday, last time we played eachother i asked him about Kessler vs Froch he said its 60-40 to Kessler at the moment but Froch im improving and Kessler has reached his level. Would be a war.

Two very good British fighters with a nice clash of styles.

I think it is based purely on the back of his performance against Conroy McIntosh

Not a hope in hell Macklin could make Light-Middleweight anymore, I've never seen a bigger Light-Middleweight in my life than Macklin against Moore and he was very badly drained to make the weight in that fight.
I don't think Barker is that big a Middleweight really, he's taller than Macklin but overall size wise I think they're pretty similar.
I'm not convinced of barker's durability, and he's certainly not a big puncher. He's got a lovely style though, picks his shots really well, throws good combinations and is very slick. I like Barker quite a bit, but I'm not sure he'll have enough to gain a World title.

Would be a great fight. I think Barker is a bit too skilled for an unrefined fighter like Macklin. Wouldn't put money on it mind you.

I was really impressed with Macklin's win over Elcock. He looked pretty impeccable to me in that fight. He's a strong kid at middle too. I'd back him as I think even though Barker has more skills macklin would be too much for him at this stage. I think Barker isn't fully developed yet as a middle but macklin not far off his prime

Good fight. Want to see it. Can't wait.
Barker may be bigger but Macklin may be better. Macklin needs a defence and that seems to be okay.
Toss up.
