View Full Version : Can the Witter match happen now?

If Witter wins his WBC fight this would then become quite attractive. A narrow points defeat still would not prevent the fight happening, but it would be less attractive.
I would like Ricky to have some comeback fights against some Brits. What about:
Michael Gomez - Micheal would come out of retirement for this and would train like never before. This could become a fairly become Manchester event. A good safe stoppage win.
Michael Jennings - more risky
Craig Watson
John Thaxton II

Cant predict the Witter match it would be close but surely Hatton would hammer the others you have mentioned?!

If you cared for Ricky at all you'd be hoping he retires.
None of these fights are viable. Even the most ardent of Hatton fans would like him to call it a day now, surely.
Ricky needs to retire and enjoy his life.

Its not like Hatton has lost to some journeyman, I mean he could still operate at world level if he wants to and not go back to the domestic scene, although i would rather he retired.
After that the sheer let down of that performance, he should do the honorable thing and hang 'em up....

WTF
Hatton would smash Gomez, Watson, Jennings and Thaxton. - No doubt about it. I think he should retire purely because he is loaded now but cannot beat the top top guys. Fuck i'd still think he could beat ALL the Light/Welter alphabet belt holders. Just not the Ring Holder obviously ha ha

I'd like to see hatton v witter as a farewell fight in manchester.
as for gomez, jennings, watson and thaxton, ricky would blow them away, give him SOME credit. he's still a level above them.

I hope he retires.
IMO he has absolutely nothing to prove, and having fallen short at the very highest level on two occasions.... aspirations of a third crack are very far fetched - for me there is no point in going to alphabelt level because the motivation simply wouldn't be there.
His punch resistance seems to have slipped alarmingly..... get out now and enjoy your life :good

I don't think there's a prayer of Hatton-Witter happening.
I'll be a little surprised if Ricky doesn't have a farewell fight in England but it definitely won't be against Witter.
Even if there's only a one-in-a-million chance in Hatton's head that he could lose to Witter, he still wouldn't want to take that chance.
I think if his career ended by losing to that guy, after he's been so dismissive of him, he'd kill himself.
I think he'd rather go out on a ko by any other fighter in the world between 135-140.

It would certainly be the "classiest" way for Hatton to finish his career, but money talks, and he's more likely to fight Khan, if Khan beats Kotelnik, not to mention that Ricky will retire without any farewell fight, if he has any sense...

We have wanted him for years so we can do his farewell contest in Manchester if they are interested?

I don't think he'll go out like that . You've got to feel a bit sorry for him , taking that many fans to Vegas and losing on that manner . I would like to see him fighting one of the other champs at 140 .He'll no doubt have a farewell , like the homecoming party he had in a football stadium or something

he'll continue to avoid Witter, who can punch and Hatton must know deep inside his own chin is dodgy.

No offence to the fighters mentioned when I say this, but I really like the sound of a UK 'bum of the month tour' from Ricky before he hangs it up.
Realistically though, he should just call it a day, there's nothing left. He's made a shitload of cash, and needs to quit before tha ballooning does him some serious damage internally.
Plus, I wouldn't be motivated for any of those fights mentioned if I was Hatton.

lol at the ott reactions to this loss...
I'd back Hatton to beat any other fighter ranked at 140 or even holding a title other than manny...I wouldn't say it was the strongest division in the world though...

They're not OTT reactions at all, what's the point going over old ground exactly status-wise?
P4P#1 is where he wants to be, it's not happening, he's not good enough, he should turn it in.

He should retire. There's not really anything left for him to achieve.
hatton must be worried about his punch resistance now...he has to call it a day.
can he really be motivated to fight someone like witter who he's refused to fight his whole career?
maybe he could make up with uncle frank and fight khan (if he beats kotelnick)

I think Hatton will be out the rest of the year to consider his options.
People are bashing him too hard IMO. It was the best fighter of the world he just lost to, no shame in that.
Hatton is still young, if he elects to continue his career he has Khan, Bradley and Witter as good options.

Cant see it. Hatton has nothing left. He was staggering all over the place in the 1st when he was only being clipped. The weight ballooning and unhealthy lifestyle has came ack to haunt him.

why would he want to fight these fellas though after what hes achieved and who hes fought?...dont get me wrong good for domestic fights and for the fans but he should hang those gloves up now man and retire theres no point going backwards.

The kid got knocked out badly. I have never really liked the Witter fight for him though my opinion of Witter is not the highest. The kid Hatton has always had some chronic weakness which are magnified at the highest level.

Can you say DeMarcus Corley or Vivian Harris?
Why would he fight Witter when he could just fight somebody like Khan? This dream of fighting Witter should have happened a long time ago, but its not going to happen now.
Roach wants Khan to fight Hatton, Khan looks like a vulnerable opponent, its got 1000X more money in it. Come on now.

Right...so people suggesting hatton should fight Shot domestic level fighters isn't an over reaction?
Personally I think he should retire...for the reasons you say...but if he did continue he could still mix at a high level...just not p4p #1 level like you say...
That is the point I was trying to make...

Hopefully this fight never happens cuz Hatton was being a complete scumbag about it for years and now that he's been whooped it would be an insult to Witter to have Hatton come running back across the pond with his tail tucked between his legs finally ready to entertain the prospect of them fighting. If Witter possesses even a shred of dignity this fight will never happen. But then again who has dignity in the fight game? So lace 'em up boys.

Dude, didn't you already get treated to that for years when he was WBU champ.

He should move up in weight and fight Cotto so he can be kocked out again and sent into retirement. Maybe he can then open up a pup and talk about his favorite boxing stories like Rocky did in that "Rocky Balboa" movie.

How about Khan V Witter, if both win their World title matches, with the winner facing off against Ricky. Britain loves Big World title unification matches, Benn-Eubank, Haye-Enzo, this would be great!

Forget it, both are gone now and should call it a day.
