Shocking performance and terrible tactics ruined what could've been an amazing spectacle.
It was just Embarrassing.
He should retire,no farewell fight needed. He's been great for British boxing but enoughs enough.
Dont care what happened with Mayweather last night....he let his fans down.

If anything he made me realise i should pray to manny pac at night
No he didn't. We just saw one of the great fighters of our era put in a phenomenal performance.

let see if the self-proclaimed 'man of the people' has the grace to reimburse his deluded huggers who paid the $$$ to go to Vegas or even buy the ppv at home...it would only be a small % of what he made from the embarrasing spectacle after all...pay back some of what he's fleeced from the mugs down the years.
The real Wicky and Way Hatton shall be revealed........

:goodI heard that Mayweather said something about Hatton should have been listening...he obviously ignored Floyds advice for whatever reason otherwise we'd have seen him jab and move his head atleast
Mayweather said something like "You should have listened to me from the start." It was on the HBO broadcast.

:goodI just watched the HBO broadcast of them two inbetween rounds...Floyd said.....
'Move your head side to side, get your hands up,you're just trying to fall in and overpower him. You're not going to overpower him.You shoulda listened to me from day 1'.....
that suggests to me that was a disagreement in tactics

Ricky just isn't good enough to compete with the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather.
I wouldn't say he let down boxing he's been fighting like that for 46 fights.
Mayweather said something like "You should have listened to me from the start." It was on the HBO broadcast.
Just rewatching it now and this is what Floyd Sr. said in the corner (more or less, I'm not fluent in Mayweathernese):
"What did I tell you about moving your head man? You've got move your head, you've got to feint, you can't fall in like that and overpower him, don't overpower him, keep your hands up man. You should have been listening to me from day one."

The only people who have let boxing down are all the idiots and haters who have surfaced today to give their reactionary and ill-judged opinions to anyone that will listen.

Anybody heard anything from Team Hatton or Floyd Snr??
trotter
05-03-2009, 11:34 AM
that suggests to me that was a disagreement in tactics
I think there was a power struggle in the cap and Hatton sided with the British lads against Floyd
Which is ludicrous when a man as talented and experienced as Floyd Sr is trying to tell you things are wrong
He may be a dick but Floyd has fought at a high level, trained at the highest level and produced the most gifted fighter of his generation

As said,I think he let boxing down.
There would've been alot of new fans watching his fight and if he fought the correct fight ,it could've been a classic.
Forget about hard core fans of either fighter, everybody missed out on a great fight because Ricky fought like a chump.
BTW-Not a hater here, been to plenty of Hattons fights(not abroad tho)

Floyd hinted that the problem was between himself and Lee Beard so you may have a case there.I agree though if Mayweather had his way Hatton would of been boxing with his hands up,using the jab and moving his head like he said inbetween rounds. Not whaling in straight lines like he has done in the past

Putting in a bad performance does not equate to letting boxing down.
And these 'new fans' you speak off will have been thrilled by what Pacquiao did.

Bad????
It was abysmal and there's no excuse for it.
Nothing thrilling about watching a guy stagger fwd like he's drunk, watch him getting KO'd then be forced to watch his annoying girlfriends reaction
The 'new fans' would be disgusted

New Ricky was even worse than old Ricky .
Havn't you been watching Hatton for the last 5 years?
He fought exactly like he always does and got his ass whooped. It was inevitable. It's not his fault people were fooled into thinking this was a contest.

Thats the whole point in the thread.
Whats the point in talking an incredible amount of horseshit pre-fight about all these changes he's gonna make then come fight time perform like before.
In a way,it was his fault people were fooled into thinking he'd changed ....think about how many times you've heard him say ''gun ho,the old Ricky ect ect''
If people were fooled thats because they are fools.
If you can't form an opinion with your own eyeballs your fucked.

I don't know if he let boxing down but I think he let himself down by his performance. I would like to think he is better than he showed in the contest. For me he has not got better since the Tyzu fight. He just does not have a clue with skilled southpaws. I rember the Cllazo and Magee fights.
And you believed him? I said a long time ago I barely saw shit different against Malignaggi. People were seeing things they wanted to see, they had to fool themselves into thinking Hatton could win. He beat up a featherfisted guy that was made for him and only throws jabs.
And people think a few months with Mayweather is going to overcome a lifetime of bad habits?
It's not anybodies fault except the people that bought into this. Hatton had to say the right things to convince himself he was in the fight.
Nobody except Roach thought this was a 2 round demolition, but this is really not so much of a shock if you are coming from the position that Pacquiao is definitely going to win based on pure logic, as opposed to the Brit forums delusions.

Well, there was signs of improvement against Paulie,I saw that with my own eyeballs so I dont think its that far fetched to believe further improvements could be made after a long training camp for this fight.

The fact he was light fisted defo helped but he did move his head a lot more in that fight

The problem is people refuse to be objective about Hatton. I have seen so many of his fights for obvious reasons and the truth is he is and has always been the same old fighter. Yesterday's defeat should not be a shock to anyone. Hatton like I said was ready made to order for a sharpshooter like Pacman.

Its unfair to say that he let boxing down he done us proud just by taking the fight. He trained to the best of his ability turned up and tried his best his best wasn't good enough but do u thnk that was the result he was looking for? Obviously not or he wouldn't have taken the fight if he didn't think he could win. I think mayweather killed the real ricky hatton and he should hang up his gloves but to say he disgraced boxing wen he has raised the profile of the sport in britain tenfold is completw bullshit. The guy will be distraught just now and needs our support not to be put down wen he gave his all for our entertainment

A little more respect would be appropriate.
Boxing fans seem to think that they can talk shit about a fighter just because he lost his last fight.
If Hattons critics on this site have such serious issues with his performance let them fight Paquiao.

Hatton let boxing down during the WBU years. He didn't do it by getting in the ring, but getting whipped by a prime version of one of the greatest ever boxers to lace them up in the history of the game.

Agreed that Hatton looked awful just wading in with no head movement which is obvious against someone like Manny.
Plus, how on earth did he get caught by the haymaker thrown from the back of the arena????:huh

He's this generations Dave 'Boy' Green to Sugar Ray Leonard. Huge credit for having a go unlike safety first fighters even if he fought like an idiot last night against someone who is out of his league, and it's now clear that he always would have been.

hatton did NOT let boxing down last night.
Im with you Doug, the amount of people spouting shit on here makes me shake my head, the lack of compassion for a guy that has always put everything he had on the line astounds me ..
He has provided great entertainment in the boxing world over the years and he came up short against 2 stellar fighters. He always sought to fight the best to prove himself and he came up short ..
But Ricky Hatton is a courageous warrior, he knew boxing, he knew that he didnt have the skills to match Mayweather and Pac but he thought his heart and bravery would see him through ..
He was outclassed by the outstanding Mayweather and looked woefully under prepared against Manny amid the backdrop of a disastrous training camp led by the disastrous Floyd Mayweather .. The lack of respect for a true warrior like Hatton on this forum is a total joke and all you tough guys hiding behind your computers ripping him to pieces need to have some respect for him .. Who exactly are you guys anyway ?? What the hell have you acheived ?? Or does it make you feel better about yourselves to ridicule a man who risked it all in front of millions of people, yeah he came up short on occasion but he put more heart and courage on show than any of you guys will ever have too .. Some of you guys know nothing about boxing with your smug attitude ..... How can someone start a thread with 'Hatton let down Boxing' and saying 'Hes an embarrassment' .... Thats a disgrace ..

Firstly, I know I said I wouldnt post again after I lost my bet, but fuck it. Im allowed one last hurrah, surely. have some sympathy for me, cos I fucked up & banned myself oneweek before such massive fight, & of course Im still reading my favourite forum, & to be honest its killing me not being able to put my views accross on this fight! So fuck it, one last post on a subject thats I have been very vocal about here for years, Ricky Hatton.
As I said already, I been a vocal Hatton hater here for years, so its only right that I give my opinion if you dont mind.
& my opinion?
Now that it all seems done & dusted on Hattons career, I have to give him my grudging respect.
Why? Cos Hattons career deserves it. Now everyone knew that I nuthugged Scotty Harrison, but man if Scotty had achieved what Hatton had, I would have been a very proud man & would have been crowing on about it to this day, & you know it fellow ESB'ers:D
Its time to call a spade a spade as it were. & for all I mumped & moaned here about Hatton through the years, about his arrogance, about the hype, about him dodging Junior Witter & other fighters etc... At the end of the day when it mattered, Ricky Hatton stood up to be counted. I was always smug here, mocking Hatton for calling out Floyd jnr never believing Hatton would fight him, but he did! & even after he was beaten, he still had the balls to go for it again against Pacquiao, & lets be brutally honest here, he gave every boxing fan what they wanted in the end, he gave his fans the chance to see him up against the true elite of the sport, & he gave the haters the chance to knock him if he was beaten.
The same cannot be said for Calzaghe etc, who never fought two legends in their prime like Hatton did, & I have to respect Ricky for that. He stood up to be counted, & to be honest I am a bit saddened to see the amount of abuse Hatton is taking in here, & on the general forum especially. I said here weeks ago that Floyd snr was the worst thing that could happen to Hatton, & I was proven right. Im not gloating though, cos Floyd snr annoyed me, as usual he was all out for himself, neglected his fighter & left Hatton high & dry, & everyone seen what happened.
Mayweather snr had a huge part to play in Hattons defeat, I warned here that he would take Hatton backwards, & it showed in Hattons display.
Sorry my post is so big, but cos I promised to leave I cant hang about making many posts like I wish I could on the subject, so bear with me:deal
Personally, I dont think Hatton should retire. It would be an awful way to bow out, & lets be honest here, who is going to hit him like Pac? No-one.Pac is a freak of nature. Hatton has got a few wins left in him, & although he was KO'd in spectacular fashion, he hadnt taken a long sustained beating. So I think Ricky should get shot of that knob Flyd snr, get back to his old ways, pick up another world title & see where it goes from there.
I dont agree with everyone that hes done, hes only guilty of losing to the very very best, theres no shame in it.
To be honest, it saddens me to see people rejoicing in Hattons defeat quite so much, cos as I said earlier at least Hatton stepped up & fought the very best, he put it all on the line for his fans, & gave the haters the opportunity to slaughter him if it all went wrong. Lets be honest here, it was fuckin brave of Hatton.
He deserves more respect than is being shown on ESB, & the haters should, like me, think about it a bit as they rejoice in Hattons downfall.
Hatton deserves some credit, even from his haters. Cos even they know that Hatton achieved more than they could have imagined. & why do I say this? Cos I was a hater myself!
No man deserves to be called a disgrace, a fraud etc though cos that beast of a man Manny Pacquiao sparked them though. Even n my Harrison nuthugging days a few years ago here I always admitted that Harrison would never have beaten Pac.
The guy is just in a different league. & everyone slaughtering Hatton should always remember this.
Anyway, Im sorry for coming back on & breaking a promise, but this subject was too close to my heart for me to ignore, & I feel bad about posting but after all the years of Hatton hating I did here I feel I owed it to everyone to come in & give Ricky his respect. He dont deserve to be publicly flogged on ESB cos he lost to the two best fighters in a generation.

no way did he let boxing down
infact he done great for boxing saturday night
sometimes in this sport a devastating ko like that is needed especially in such a high profile fight such as hatton pac, a fight that captured the publics imagination
that ko reminds us of how brutal this sport is and brought back memories of the days of dempsey , tyson and duran
we needed ricky to catapult pac further up in his superstar status, boxing is back with a bang thanks to ricky getting sparked boxing made the headlines again for being the sweet science that it is

The only thing I disagree with Dunky about is that Floyd senior took Hatton backwards. I think it's fairly clear Floyd wasn't afforded the opportunity to Ricky anywhere, because he wasn't listening to him. I thought Floyd saying 'You should have listened to me from day one' in between rounds was very telling.
Who was this Lee Beard chap? Why was he involved in the camp? Whether you like Floyd or not, if you hire a top trainer you let him use his own people. When a new manager takes over in football he bring his own team.

Great post Dunky it really is. I think part of the problem unfortunately is that the Hatton nuthuggers have not been objective about hence the consequences when he is exposed at the elite level giving the haters the opportunity for payback.
As you know I am neither a Hatton nuthugger or a hater but I am very objective about him because he is a fighter I have had to study assidously. Like Lloyd Honeyghan before him you need to give him credit for facing the best of his era win or lose. His level of opponent was not always great during the time spent with Sports Network but taking on Tyzu, PBF and Pacman says everything about him as Calzaghe's failure to face the best at their peak says everything about him.
If and when he does retire I will really miss Ricky. I think he should probably have a final fight in Manchester as a "thank you" to those great fans of his. I think he will knockout Khan. I will be rooting for him against Witter and yo know what would happen to him against my guy. I don't know who will be chosen for his farewell fight but I think I will be ringside to see the most popular British fighter ever.

So you honestly dont believe the way Hatton performed was embarrassing?
For the way he went about his business last night ,he deserves every bit of critisism he gets.
Not being smug, just telling it how it is.

Shocking performance and terrible tactics ruined what could've been an amazing spectacle.
It was just Embarrassing.
He should retire,no farewell fight needed. He's been great for British boxing but enoughs enough.
Dont care what happened with Mayweather last night....he let his fans down.He didnt let anyone down. He simply got found out.

Oh, so it was Hatton who implemented our 'swinging door' immigration policy, let the bankers run wild and took us on a phony war was it? Never mind the underage pregnancies and chavs. This country embarrasses itself on a regular basis and none of it has anything to do with boxing.

Outstanding from Manny but the manner in which Hatton went about his business was a disgrace.
What happened to the new Ricky?
He just marauded fwd like a complete joke-he didn't have a clue.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you mate. Hatton's approach in the ring was ridiculous. To be honest I never rated him as having much talent but he was strong and had a balls in is early - midle career. However in his last last 5-6 fights he has actually got worse in every facet of his trade. His strength is waning, what little technique appears to have gone, his chin is in pieces, and his tactical awareness and ability to change approach obviously is not there any more. It is now clear that he was over hyped, too much credence was placed on his win against KT when he had not fought for a long time and was past it. That night Hatton was at his strongest. Shame, like most I really believed hatton when he said he would box clever and move his head, but he simply was never capable of it.
I wish him well, was genuinely worried about him when he was on the canvas, it was a brutal KO. Fair play to him for having balls and giving it a go but I do wonder how so many people have managed to overlook his glaring deficiencies for so long. He must be a special guy to have so many loyal fans, I am sure he feels terribly disappointed about his performance. Retire, rest and a future in promotion awaits, no point risking what little reputation he has left for a few meaningless fights.

Hey Scurla your always talking like your a prime Sugar Ray Leonard so why dont you give it a shot in the ring, i'd pay big money to sit at ringside to see you get knocked out in 3 seconds.

'Embarrassing' is totally the wrong word .. Nobody who steps into a ring can be called 'Embarrassing'. Boxers are human beings, even Tyson was fearful walking to the ring because taking punches in the face in front of millions of people, and in front of your family is the hardest thing in sport.
Boxing is by far and away the toughest sport in the world mentally and i just feel to call any boxer an 'embarrassment' is way over the line ..
Its clear to me that Hatton's training camp was a disaster, no gameplan to fight Manny was instilled in him so he reverted to his brawling, head first, no defence strategy that has seen him through in the past ..
I expected him to go 8 or 9 rounds with Pac before his stamina failed and a well prepared Ricky is good enough to do that, however good Pac is ..
To call a guy like Ricky Hatton, 'an embarrassment' and to suggest 'he let down boxing', is totally out of order ..
Lennox Lewis got stopped by 2 of the weakest belt holders in heavyweight history, yeah he avenged but those losses were far more 'embarrassing' than Hatton going down against the 2 best fighters of the last 25 years.
Naz gets schooled by Barerra, has another fight against Calvo and then calls it quits, not even trying to get back on top. Thats more 'embarrassing' than Hatton.
Its all about perspective and to ridicule a man for fighting the very best and losing is not right ..

b) 10000 fans from UK left to find something else better to do in Sin City ;-)
