View Full Version : Hatton/Khan looms large....
"Hatton is close to the end of his career. If Manny does what I think he will do to Hatton, and if it all goes to plan, we will knock him out and bust him up. "If that does happen, I would say Amir is close to a fight with Ricky, which is a huge fight in the UK, a sell-out. We have been working on Amir's mental game, and he is getting stronger all the time."
Somehow, I doubt the fight would have changed Roach's mind. Hatton showed his chronic weakness to handspeed, something of which Khan has in buckets. ****** seems to make the matches that Roach reccomends; he trusts in Roach.
This fight makes a lot of sense on a financial level. It makes a lot of sense for both fighters. For Khan to step up into true world class. A very winnable farewell fight for Hatton, in the UK.
Why not - if Khan beats Kotelnik and Hatton has a rest? Why not?

Lets be serious.
Khan is a china chinned, china bodied joke who can't fight on the inside.
Hatton would stop him early.

It may happen, and I'm a big Hatton fan...... But Khan has a big chance of a KO win in this one... he is a fast powerful puncher, and Hatton can't take a punch anymore

I can't see Khan taking the risk.
Agreed.
But I can see where Roach would be coming from. Eventually Khan has to sink or swim, and of all the fighters you could put him in with Hatton displays a lot of weakness to Khan's strengths. He can't defend himself against any type of handspeed.
The reverse is also true of course, if Hatton gets inside. I suppose Roach would be working on footwork.

Hatton has lost his chin...... pretty bad for a fighter of Hattons style

i actually see khan TKO'ing him
not that my opinion has any respect the amount of wrong predictions i made!!!!!!!!!!
but fuck it, i see khan winning
definitely a better boxer, he would outbox and out move ricky......
I genuinely don't want to see Ricky get another beating, his punch resistance as gone, he's aged and can't absorb the punishment.
Khan IS a fast, precise puncher, no doubt he'd be given first hand advice from Manny.
I can see Khan blowing Ricky out of there with speed if last nights performance is a good guage of Rickys boxing age.
I'll be happy to see Rick retire and hopefully still be involved in boxing through his promotion side. He's a enthusiastic boxing fan and seems a positive person.

Hatton should retire now. It's only going to get worse.
This fight wouldn't prove anything if he won and he already had his farewell fight 'for the fans' against Lazcano.
Retire and enjoy life in good health as a millionaire.

On the other hand it makes you think what the right hand Hatton landed on Pacquiao might have done to Khan...
Roach must see what Khan does with Pacquiao in sparring, he would be in a real good position to determine Khan's chances. If he is well keen on this fight it makes you wonder...

Hatton should just retire now , he has nothing left to prove, made shit loads of money so I dont see no point why he would take this fight.
Khan is faster than even Manny plus also taller at 5'10 and would have a great reach ad over Hatton. Roach knows Hattons flaws and Khan would just stay on the outside and pick Hatton off and stay away from the inside and have a gameplan for Hatton. Hatton chin is now not the same as before, and his defence was nowhere last night.
Hatton by TKO but it would just give him false hope especially if Kahn has a title by the time it happens.

I think it may have decapitated Khans head from his shoulders but then again every punch that connected on Ricky seemed to have an effect.
Usually he enjoys a few fists in his face..
I think Roach views Hatton as a badly schooled brawler.. he may not be too far from the truth but Hattons ability to absorb and give back has got him through up to now but no more I think.

I don't think Hatton would be interested at all in the fight. Big step down going from fighting the P4P best to fighting Amir Khan.

I hope Ricky retires now, no point in carrying on and getting a beating at the hands of Khan. It will make his final resume look much weaker.

Before the fight I said Khan would have a good chance as long as he doesnt get caught. In fact I MADE a thread about it here after Khan beat MAB.
I think Hatton is very overrated and Khan would beat him and his brother Matthew.
I disagree.
I'm sure he wouldn't want to go out with a whimper. Getting KO'd in round 2 is no way to go out after a good career. It's fairly clear he can't cut it against the Mayweather's, Pac's or Marquez so what else is there? Particularly if Khan gets a world title and some momentum and excitement behind him.
They would definitely make an absolute fortune, no issues there.
Makes great sense to me for both parties. Appears winnable to both (from their POV anyway), stacks of money, exciting for British fans.

I will be extremely pissed off if this fight happens but I can't see it. Hattons been great but he's finished I don't think he should box again and this would just be the latest scandal in fw's manouvering of khans disgraceful career. just like the barrera fight wait till a good fighter is faded then throw them in with khan and after the farce makeout as if khan could have beat them in their prime
They could call it:
'Battle of the Glass Jaws'
Thats it!! the transition is complete, collect your papers at the front desk, the last train to the G.F leaves in five minutes.
I suppose they both seem vulnerable an 'Anything can happen' fight.

It would be a big big fight here in the U.K, I just dont see Hatton coming down to Khan's level ( who is still in the development stage) after fighting P4P top fighter.
It really depends on Hatton on how much he has got left?, and does he want to risk his CV with a up and coming fighter?.
After last night my money is on a young, fit, fast Khan with Roach in the corner.

Well if hatton loses to khan everyone would say he is old and that is also why he lost to pac. I guess it allows himt o make excuses for his loss to Pac.
But honestly hatton looked really weight drained, I dont think he should fight at 140, he should have been fighting at 147 all along but he knew there was too much competition there so he fought at 140 instead. He was so overprotected it is not even funny.

Why not, as a farewell fight?
He said himself, all he had left to do was to "become p4p #1". Okay, this might not have been the case even if he did win, but as it is his dreams were truely shattered twice at that level. And I can't see him fighting the Tim Bradley's of this world.
I'm sure he wouldn't want to go out with this performance so I can definitely see another fight. This one seems to fit the bill to me. I would be surprised if this does not happen, I really would. It really seems to add up on a financial and sporting level, and Roach wants it. He has a big influence over Khan's opponents I would think.
Hatton looked seriously emaciated.....skeletal.
I wouldn't say he was overprotected by any means.
He was in the position where he could pick and choose his opponents like many top high profile boxers...

I see your point, lets see what Hatton says in the next few weeks about his future. It would be a great fight, I think he will call it a day, but who knows you could be right.
He could do. It's not as if this fight would prove anything, and its not as if he needs the money.
I just think if I was in Hatton's position I wouldn't care to go out this way. Brutally KO'd in the second round, away from home? All the people that travelled over, all the people that paid PPV money? Nah, thats not how I'd want to end a decent career.
I'd want to win another fight, just to have a bit of a feel good factor, at home infront of the fans that have made him so much money.

apart from the money, bad fight for both
beating khan proves nothing for hatton and if khan beat hatton particularly if he KO'd him we would have to leave the country (bit of a cooper/bugner situation) and he's not exactly the most popular right now

Hatton TKO/KO
Oscar could be a possibility.
Just think this is more likely given they are both 140lb'ers at this point. A fight with Oscar would have to be at 150+ in all probability. Can't see Hatton going for that. Plus I'm absolutely sure Roach is going to try to get this fight should Khan beat Kotelnik judging by these quotes.

Hatton has fought Lucozade, Collazo and Uranatango so why not Khan?
