There's always excuses after every fight. Always people downplaying achievements. But whoever wins tonight will have beaten a very good fighter and that's all you can say about it really.

The closer a fight is, the more inclined people are to give credit. If one person kicks the other's ass, there are usually a lot more excuses, including the infamous "exposed" or "shot" ones. So if it's a war then I'm sure plenty of credit will be given no matter who wins.

I already give Hatton a lot of credit, if he beats this version of Castillo who is just slightly past his peak it will be his biggest win, even bigger than KOstya Tszyu IMO. But, I think Castillo will pull it out in the end. He needs this fight more than Hatton does, after all the money he lost with Corrales fight fiascos he needs more big paydays. It will be a hell of a fight.

I think it's entirely within reason to at least be prepared that this may not be the Castillo we've come to know. He and Corrales had quite a war 2 years ago, and Corrales never looked the same. Castillo looked flat in his last fight and has a bit of mileage on the tires. Sometimes fighters get old overnight, and when looking at Castillo's age and the fights he's had, this would be a reasonable time to suspect that he may never be the same.

For me, it's not automatic that a Hatton victory would be diminished by Castillo's age or whatever. A large part would depend on how Castillo looks early on. If they trade bombs and Castillo is looking sharp with combos like he did against Corrales, Hatton should get all the credit in the world if he continues to trade with him and wear Castillo down. If from the get-go Castillo looks a step slower and doesn't get off like he has before, though, it cannot be ignored if it looks like this wasn't the Castillo of 2005. That wouldn't make a Hatton victory meaningless, but it wouldn't give a Hatton victory quite the same importance. Either way, with a win he'd still be The Man at 140.

Castillo imo has slipped just a little bit from his lightweight days.
He's had quite a few wars, but he's definitely not shot imo.
There's still quite a bit in the tank in Castillo.

I'm looking for Hatton to be just a little bit stronger and hungrier for big fights that he'll have the edge at the end.
.....but I cant discount Castillo. I think the tragedies that occured in his life in recent months with the loss of his brother and Diego Corrales will fuel him.

It all depends on how Hatton looks. Even though Castillo is a bit past his prime I don't believe he's shot and if Hatton comes out victorious he should get credit commensurate with his performance.

A Hatton shutout or KO will have us talking Hatton/PBF once again.

A close but very decisive win for Hatton will still be impressive.

A back and forth struggle with a split decision ending will give people plenty of reason to continue to doubt Hatton.

A loss to Castillo..................and Hatton will deserve much of the criticism that will be coming his way.

I'll give Hatton plenty of credit if he dominates Castillo, even the Castillo who had rough moments against Ngoudjo, but how good/ close a fight this is depends completely on what Castillo brings to the table. Hatton should have more in the tank if this becomes a war of attrition.
