How do you figure Tyson is a gatekeeper, when he gives up in his fights now? That's not gatekeeper status. He is done as a fighter.

Out of those guys, IMO only McCline is a real gatekeeper. He's the guy contenders and comebackers fight to see if they can make the next level or not.
those other guys don't fight up and comers - even though they are probably gatekeeper standard.
Someone like Guinn is/was a good pick. Monte Barrett is probably in there now too.

Gatekeepers fighting other gatekeepers are the best fights to me..you never know. There is no shame on being a gatekeeper. You get good pay and usually dont get knocked out regularly like tomato cans...All boxers deserve respect. Except those that take dives and dont try to win.

True.
But they're still gatekeepers.
Like in sixth sense, they just don't know that their careers are dead and that they've become gatekeepers.

SFW: MAB
Considering Marco Antonio Barrera just had a close fight and fought a game fight against the current 3rd P4P best fighter in the world (JMM), I wouldn't consider him a gatekeeper. In my opinion, he still beats Valero, Guzman, and Soto. I would also favor him over Chris John and Jorge Linares. MAB showed he still had excellent speed, toughness, and overall ability against Marquez which is why I still think he's top 12 P4P.

As I view it, its a fighter that will grant the "new" boxer alot of recognition to take on the top guy(s) of the division. As you can see, none of my chosen fighters are totally shot - they still hold alot of value - not just in name, but also in ability.
As I see it, (and I love MAB)MAB is not gonna be a WC again(as requested by OP), he is a top guy, but he is getting weaker by each match. I tried to pick good gatekeepers.

I would view a gatekeeper as a guy that REGULARLY fights up and comers, as a test to see if they can make the next level - not just once or twice.
Like a Guinn, Corley, Mitchell (now), etc. Larry Donald might be another good example.
Guys like MAB aren't really IMO, as once they fade, they'll probably only fight other faded names, or 1 or 2 fights. I mean guys that fight a lot.
But that's just my interpretation.

I see your points (all good ones) - it all depends on each individual's definition or criteria of a gatekeeper:good
